Unit 3: Interface Secifications SATO MB2i Service Manual PN 9001145B Page 3-2 INTERFACE SPECIFICATIONS This chapter present s the printer interface types and their specifications. These specifications include detailed information to assist in the se lection of the most appropriate meth od for the printer to interface with the host.
Unit 3: Interface Specifications SATO MB2i Service Manual PN 9001145B Page 3-3 802.11B WIRELESS INTERFACE 802.1 1 refers to a family of specifications developed by the IEEE f or wireless LAN technology to communicate between a wireless client and a base st ation or between two wireless clients.
Unit 3: Interface Secifications SATO MB2i Service Manual PN 9001145B Page 3-4 RS232C SERIAL INTERFACE This interface is an industry st andard for seria lly transmitting data using a wired cable. Separate transmit and receive lines enable dat a to flow in both directions simultaneously .
Unit 3: Interface Specifications SATO MB2i Service Manual PN 9001145B Page 3-5 INFRARED RAYS (IRDA) Infrared communications is based on techno logy whic h is similar to entert ainment remote control devices used in homes today .
Unit 3: Interface Secifications SATO MB2i Service Manual PN 9001145B Page 3-6 The IrCOMM protocol runs on top of IrDA and s upport s the emulation of a peer device similar to what’s connecting it by a serial or parallel cabl e for applications that access those port s through the operating system.
Unit 3: Interface Specifications SATO MB2i Service Manual PN 9001145B Page 3-7 BLUETOOTH Bluetooth is a short-range, wireless techno logy operating in the unlicensed 2.4GHz band a nd offers greate r flexibility than IrDA. Its signal is broadcast omni-directi onal and transmits/receives up to a dist ance 30 feet (10 meters).
Unit 3: Interface Secifications SATO MB2i Service Manual PN 9001145B Page 3-8 ALL INTERFACE TYPES RECEIVE BUFFER The data stream is received fro m the host to the printer one job at a time. This allows the software pro gram to maintain control of th e job print queue so that it can move a high priority job in front of ones of lesser importance.
