6 Section 1 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provide d with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, su ch as your PIN, any optional services available, and many others.
Section 1: Getting Started 7 Activating Y our Phone Section 1 4. Grasp the top of the battery with your finger and lift up in the direction of the arro w . Remove the batter y . 5. Slide the SIM card into the SI M card socket so that the card locks into place.
8 Section 1 Note: When you need to remo ve the SIM card, slide it, as shown, and take it out of the socket. 6. Place the battery so that the 3 brass tabs on the end align with the 3 bra ss prongs at the bottom of the batter y compartment. The a rrow on the battery should be pointing down.

Important!: Y ou must unplug the T ravel Adapter before you remove the battery from the phone during char ging; otherwise, the phone could be damaged.

32 Section 3 Silent mode Silent mode is convenient when you wish to stop the phone fr om making noise, in a theater for example. In Idle mode, pr ess and hold the key until the “Silent mode on” message and the Silent mo de icon ( ) display . In Silent mode, in stead of sounds , your phone will vibrate.

Example: Y ou wish to s ay someth ing to a pers on in the room but do not want the person on the phone to hear you.

52 Section 5 Changing the T ext Input Mode When using your ph one, you wi ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in your Phonebook , creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphan umeri c characters by using your phone’s keypad.

60 Section 6 Storing a Number in the Phone’ s Memor y The default for saving phone numbers to your phonebook is your phone’s memory . Y ou can also save it to your SIM card or you can set your default so that whenever a new phonebook entry is cr eated, you will be prompted to choose between Ph one or SIM card .

When you enter this menu, the list of messages in the box displays. Note: By pressing the Left or Right Navigation keys, you may scroll between Inbox, Sentbox, Outbox, and Drafts.

Section 7: Messages 97 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) Section 7 Send settings • Delivery repor t : when this option is enabled, t he network informs you whether or not your message has be en delivered. • Read reply : when this option is enabled, your phone sends a request for a reply along with your message to the recipient.

Instant Messaging Instant Messagi ng (IM) is a way of sending short, simple messages t hat ar e deliver ed imme diately to users online at that moment.
