PAGE 4 INSTALLATION (continued) 3. MINIMUM SUBMERGE NCE OF SUCTION PIPE AND PIT DESIGN For installations where the pump draws fluid from a su mp, the hydraulic characteristic s of the pump, the suction inlet submergence and NPSH must be consi dered.
INSTALLATION (continued) PAGE 5 7. GROUTING When the alignment is correct, the unit should be gr outed usin g hig h-grade non-shrinki ng grout. The entire base should be filled with grout. Be sure to fill all gaps and voids. Allow the gro ut to fully cure before firml y tightening the foundation bolts.

INSTALLATION continued) P A G E 7 13. MECHANICAL SEALS CAUTION: DRY OPERATION OF THE PUMP MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MECHANICAL SEAL AND IMPELLER. Model 442 pumps can be supplie d with optional single face mecha nical shaft seals. Mechanical seals are installed and adjusted in the factory and requi re no further adjustments in the field.
P A G E 8 OPERATION Because variations exist in both the equipment used with these pumps and in the particular installation of the pump and driver, specific operatin g instructions are not within the scope of this manual. However, there ar e general rules and practices that apply to all pump installations and operation.

We suggest that an inspection and maintenance log be k ept and that the inspector i mmediately report any problems.
