Introdu ction 7 Introduct ion Dear Customer! When you read this operation instructions probably the PBX has already been installed, started and absolut ely configured to your requirements. I n this case pleas e take a little bit of time and read the instruction of this manual.
8 Instructions for using the Manual 왎 Up to 57.600 bps data transfer (V.90) on t he analog extensions. 왎 Exchange line reservation, pickup and explicit call transfer to an external phone. 왎 Dialling support by PC (TAP I). 왎 PBX software update via PC or telephone connection.
Introduction 9 If you find s uch a procedu re descr ibed this way, execute the stated actions step by step from the lef t to the right. Sym bols that are stated one under the other ar e at your dis posal as an alternative. Depending on your functional goal, you can exchange these sym bol against the symbol in the f irst row.
10 Telephoning Telephoning The PBX is able to signal an inbound call in different ways, e.g. by a ringing telephone or by a knocking tone in the receiver of a busy tele- phone. If a telephone r ings, you will often recognize wher e the call comes from.
Telephoning 11 If the waiting call is an A larm call, the current ly existing call will be terminated when accep ting the waiting Alarm call. How to accept an alarm call is described on p. 22 . If you have already a Query call when it knocks, at least one of both calls has to be finished first.
12 You like to separate the Charges of ex ternal Calls to dif ferent Accounts The PBX phonebook entries (number and name) are accessible from the phonebook menu of the system telephones COMfortel 1500/2500 and COMfort 1000/1200/2000 plus.
Telephoning 13 Recall on no Reply: If the called person does not take the call, you will be able to reac h him without repeating the call by starting a recall in case of no Reply. The function is possi ble for internal as well as external calls. The necessary ISDN feature „Call Completion on No Reply (CCNR)“ will be supported by P BX.
14 You are Dialling a N umber and are Hearing the bus y Tone up in case of an external ringing may also be a signal for a missing call- ing authorization. If you always hear the busy tone after dialling a Short-Code Dialling number, this will point to a missing cal ling authorization mode or to a not programmed Short-Code Dial Number.
Telephoning 15 During a call different situations may occur e.g. you like t o ask another person to this conversation issue or another caller tries to reach you. You are not forced to finish the current call to react to these circum- stances, you will be able to put th is call on hold in the PBX or to park it for a short time period.
16 You are in a Call and like to Trans fer it key/menu, you also will be able to use this c omfortable operation (see manual of the telephone). If you are requested to enter the telephone number using the T-Net function, you will have to enter the Exc hange Line Access Number 0 in c ase of external calls.
Telephoning 17 You can only transfer an external call to another external calling partner this way if the n ecessary perm ission for exc hange line to exchange line switching was configured for your telephone with the configuration program COMset (this does not apply to an external call made via an analog VoIP/GSM adapter).
18 You are in a Call and like to Trans fer it If you hear the busy tone after dialling t he internal telephone number, the telephone number is already in use for an „Open Query “. Use another configured telephone number for an „Open query“ - if it exists.
Telephoning 19 During a Query you are talking to a s ubscriber while your first calling partner is put on hold in the background in the PBX. and listens to the Music on H old. A Query is start ed by calling a Query partner, by using the Pickup function during a call or by accepting a waiting call announced by t he knocking tone.
20 You have a Conference Call With ISDN telephones and the syst em telephone a „Confer- ence“ is started with an existi ng function key or via menu (e.g . with „conf“, „Conferenc e“ or „3-party Conference“; see manual of the tel- ephone).
Telephoning 21 If you use an analog telephone as an internal subscriber tele- phone where the „finishing of a Conference and back to Alter- nation“ is execut ed via T-Net funct ion key/menu, y ou can a lso use this comfortable operation (s ee manual of the telephone).
22 You like to take an Emergency Call On the system telephone COMfortel 1500/2500, COMfort 1000/ 1200/2000 plus and smar- tel-i (only on COMmande r Basic) th e door bell ringing is shown in the m enu. By press ing the key under „door“, you can open the door menu without interrupting the conversa- tion (see manual of the telephone).
Settings 23 Settings The programm ing functions starting wit h „7“ and the public password (default is „2“) are available and changeable by each user on his te lephone. Some of these functions can be used on T-Net telephones with T-Net functions keys or menus and are n ot password prot ected.
24 You like to stay reachable during your Calls After a power f ailure the time information is lost. In this case au- tomatic switching and the Wake-up function will not be per- formed.
Settings 25 Thanks to the subscriber Call Forwar ding (CF) you are able to forward internal and external calls that ar e targeted to your telephone to other internal telephones or external connections. You or your corresponding substitution can take these calls on another telephone.
26 Somebody should be reachable for internal/external Caller s to your Telephone Number (Subscriber Call Forwarding) case of external telephone numbers. On the PBX yo u can also enter internal or Short-Code Dial Num bers as des tination telephone numbers.
Settings 27 You are in need of an analog DTMF telephone, an ISDN tele- phone with DTMF signalling or a DTMF sender. The PBX has to be configured cor respondingly with the conf iguration program COMs et.
28 External Callers should always reach Somebody when calli ng your external Numb er (MSN /DDI Call Forwarding) If you like to be reachable al ways for external c alls even if you are not at home at the moment and if nobody can take the call on the internal telephones, use the M SN/DDI Call Forwarding.

30 You do not like t o be called You are in need of an analog DTMF telephone, an ISDN tele- phone with DTMF signalling or a DTMF sender. The PBX needs to be configured for this operation with the configuration software COMset.
Settings 31 The PBX enables you to call easy and without prior thinking via the cheapest available ne twork provi der. This is called automatic Least Cost Routing. With LCR the P BX selects the corresponding prefix telephone num ber of the provider pr oposed for the corresponding time for each external call you start and dials it f irst.
32 You like to retrieve and analyse Call C harge Data The Call Allowance c an also be managed with t he PC program COMtools ( p. 60 ). To use the function „Call Allowanc e“ without restricti ons, you will need the feature „Advice of charge durin g the call (AOCD)“ for your ISDN exchange line.
Settings 33 If you do not like to analys e your data on the PC, but like to send the data directly to a printer, you can conne ct directly a serial printer to the serial port. You have to c onfigure the parameters o f the serial port in the printer (no handshake, 9600 baud, 8 bit data, 1 stop bit, no parity).
34 You like to use the Serial Interface for Special Functions The default factory setting is „ no special fun ction “. Other operation modes are: Dial with a PC tele phone: An internal subscriber can use a PC dialler on a connect ed PC. This P C telephone needs to be configured in COM- set .
Settings 35 You can enter „100-digit long Shor t-Code Dial Numbers“ wit h the PC software COMtools. Th ese can contain letters and tokens to enter pre- defined messa ges to pagers.
36 You like to use the Wake-up Function of the PBX Configure W ake-up T ime and act ivate the Function for one si ngle Wake-u p b7 Q 7 6 U Ö # e.g. for 1: Set Wake-up time f or Mo and activate for on.
Settings 37 Various tones in the receiver are r epr esenting different status informa- tion about the PBX. The P BX is generating t he following tones: 왎 Extern al di al t one: This tone is a continuous dial tone.
38 You like to configure Ringer Rhythm s and listen to t he Result If you have already test-lis tened t o a tone it will be enough to dial the digit + # for the next tone. Ringer Rhythms for internal Calls: To identify calls to two separate telephones in one room, you can change it.
Settings 39 The default is 1 x long for each existing te lephone number. As ISDN telephon es most often support their own ringer m elo- dies only and not the melodies of the PBX, you may listen with analog telephones only. With the automatic dialling functi on you can configure your telephone to dial automatically an internal or external number.
40 You want to listen into a Room (Room Monitoring) You can also use the T-Net sequence, you can acti vate the „connection without dialling“ with *53* + number + # and deactivate with #53# .
Settings 41 You are in need of an analog DTMF telephone, an ISDN tele- phone with DTMF signalling or a DTMF sender. The PBX nee ds to be conf igured with t he configuration program COM- set for this purp ose . You need to know the remote switching and programming MS N/DDI configured with the confi guration program COMset .
42 Use the Remote Switching Relay (via Telephone) On the system telephone COMfortel 1500/2500, COMfort 1000/ 1200/2000 plus and smar- tel-i (only on COMmande r Basic) th e relays can be switched comf ortably via menu ( see manual of the tele- phone).
Settings 43 You need to know the remote switching and programm ing MSN/DDI configured with the confi guration program COMset. If you call the PBX and enter the corr ect external passw ord as described here, you will hear the external acknowledgem ent tone.
44 You like to change the Music on Hold/Announcement You are in need of an analog DTMF telephone, an ISDN tele- phone with DTMF signalling or a DTMF sender.
Settings 45 This function will delete the existing Music on Hold announce- ment directly. Even if yo u hang-up after dialling 441# the old Music on Hold announcement will already be deleted. The Music on Hold announcement may have a m aximum length of 8 s econds.
46 You like to change the Music on Hold/Announcement The internal Music on Hold saved in the PBX (including the enclosed .wav files) may be us ed without fees to copyright agencies.
Settings 47 With the recording function any existing announcement will be deleted unconditional. Even if you hang-up after dialling 442# , the old announcement will already be deleted. The announce- ment may have a m aximum length of 16 seconds (COMmander Basic: 15 seconds).

Special Functions for Business Applications 49 The settings configured in t he conf iguration program COMset concerning the call distribution remain to be unchanged. These settings are c onfiguration dependent (see p. 23 ). This function will delete the ex isting welcome message immedi- ately.
50 Announcements via Loudspeaker and System Telep hones The digit „0“ is not allowed in the password. If the password needs to be shorter than 4 digits, the rem aining unused digits will have to be filled with „0“ duri ng programming. Example: You like to use the passw ord 67 .
Special Functions for Business Applications 51 On the called system telephone the LED next to the handsfree operation/loudspeaker/hook key (COM fortel 1500/2500 and COMfort 1000/1200/2000 plus) or the middle LED (smar-tel-i on C OM- mander Basic) glows and the connection is established after it rings once.
52 Call Groups (Team s) For safety reasons: There is a time limit for outbound external Call Through calls in the PBX (1-99 minutes ). COMpact 2206 USB or COMpact 4410 USB: O nly a single Call Through connec tion is possible at the s ame time. If configured, the PBX will support Least Cost Routing for Call Through cal ls.

54 Call Groups (Team s) If you try to „log in outbound and inbound“ into different groups, you will be only „logged in outbound“ in the last group tried.

56 Hotel Functions for Reception and Room Telephones You are in need of an analog DTMF telephone, an ISDN tele- phone with DTMF signalling or a DTMF sender.

Some providers do not transmit charg e information. If a hotel g uest is using such a provid er to make out bound calls the accrued charges cannot be bil led to him.
58 Installati on and Use of the bundle d Software Installation and Use of the bundled Softwar e Part of the product is a CD-ROM wit h various PC progr ams for use with the PBX .
Installation and Use of the b undled Software 59 햲 Insert the CD-ROM (Auerswald Mega Disk ) into the CD-RO M drive. 햳 Sometimes the installation will not be star ted automatically. In this case you can start Setup manually: On your desktop click on the „Start“ button in the task bar and select „Run“.
60 Functionality of COMtools The program COMtools is a launcher for separ ate PC programs t o use with the PBX. You can select between: 왎 A Short-Code Dial Number editor.
Installation and Use of the b undled Software 61 The PC program COMlist helps you to manage and analyse the call data in the call data memory of the PBX. The call data from the PBX is transferred to a data base and stored on the hard d isk. The capacity o f the data base is limited only by t he size of your hard disk.
