5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring your hard ware, activating your service, and then setting up your Voicemail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessary to install both the battery and SIM into their correspondin g internal compartments.
Getting Started 6 䊳 Carefully slide t he SIM card in to the SIM card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place. • Make sure that the c ard’s g old co ntacts face i nto the phone and that the upper-left angl ed corner of the car d is posit ioned as shown.
7 Installing the Batter y 1. Insert the batter y into the openi ng on the back of the phone, making sure the connectors align (1). 2. Gently press down to secure the battery (2). Installing the Bac k Cov er 1. Place the battery cover onto the back of the phone (1) and press down (2).
Getting Started 8 2. Press all along the edge o f th e back cover unt il you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installed before s witching on the phone. Char ging a Battery Y our device is powered by a re chargeable Li-ion batter y .
9 2. When charging is finished, remove the flat end from the interface connector jack on the phone . Warning!: If your handset has a touch screen display , please note that a touch screen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger .
Getting Started 10 Setting up your Phone with Ready2Go When you first turn on your phon e, you will need to set up a few things. 1. When the Fast & Easy Phone Set-Up screen displays, touch Get Started to begin. – or – T ouch Skip to set up your phone later .
11 2. Once the URL loads, click on the Can’t access your account? link. 3. Enter your Email address and click Submit . 4. Foll ow the on-screen instruct ions to reset your password. Setting Up Visual V oicemail A T&T Visual V oicemail provides an em ail-like in box that lets you listen to vo icemail messages in any order tha t you choose.
Getting Started 12 3. Ta p Call Back to call the n umber that left the voicemai l, or tap Delete to delete the voic email. 4. T ouch and drag the slider to fast-forward or reverse the voicemail play back.

Getting Started 14 Safe Mode Y ou can boot your phone into Safe Mode if you wish to troubleshoot whether or not added applications are causing problems with the device. Safe mode will only lo ad basic system software. 1. Make sure your phone is tu rned off.

Vol um e k ey s : allow you t o adjust the ringer volume while in standby mode or adjust the voice volu me during a call . Understanding Y our Phone 18 Rear View of Y our Phone 1. Camera lens : is used to take pict ures and shoot videos. 2. External speaker : allows you to hear when the Speakerphone is turned o n. 3. Flash : is used to provide ade quate light when taking pictures in dark places.
19 Indicat or Icons This list identifies th e symb ols you’ll see on your phone’ s display and Indicator area: Displays your curre nt signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Indicates that th e Airplane Mode is active.

Displays when your conne ction to a UTMS, HSDP A, HSP A, or HSPA+ network is active. Displays when your phone is communicating with the UTMS, HSDP A, HSPA, or HSP A+ network.

23 A T&T Ready2Go : A T&T Ready2Go allows you to quick ly and easily setup your pho ne by using the web bro wser on your PC. Y ou can set-up email acco unts, import contacts, set wallpaper , configure Wi-Fi a nd many more features. For more informatio n, refer to “Setting up your Phone with Ready2Go” on page 10.

For ph otos, you can also perform basic editing tasks, view a slide show , set photos as wa llpaper or contact image, and share as a pi cture message. 25 Media Hub : Samsung Media Hub is your one stop for the hottest movie and TV content. Y ou can rent or purchase your favorite cont ent a nd watch from the convenienc e of anywhere. For more in formation, refer to “Media Hub” on page 68. Memo : This feature allows yo u to create a memo.

Google Search Bar The Google Search Bar provides yo u an on-screen Internet search engine po wered by Google™.

39 Important!: If access to the external SD card is not available, download and install the USB drivers. Mounting the SD Ca rd T o store photos, music, videos, and other applications. Y ou must mount (install) the S D card prio r to use. Mounting the SD card establishes a USB connecti on with your computer .
Call Functions 40 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a c all. It also includes the features and functional ity associated with ma king or answering a call . For more informat ion, refer to “Call Settings” on page 105.

Call Functions 42 Making a Call from the Address Book Y ou can store phone numb ers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’s memory. These entries are collectively called th e Addr ess Book . For further details about the Ad dress Book fea ture, see “Finding an Address Book Entry” on page 60.
43 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Appl ication menus, you have the option to access the Dialer and init iate a call by t apping ➔ Keypad . From the main Contacts page or from the Di aler , the following tabs a re located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on-s creen keypad.
Call Functions 44 Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associated icons are displayed and can then be selected. 2. The Call log is displayed. Misse d calls are identified by the icon next to the number . Calling Bac k a Missed Call T o call back a missed call number: 1.

T o s witch between the two calls, tap Swap . •S w a p : Places th e current call on hold and then activates the previous call.
49 2. Use the Vol u m e keys (located on the left side of your phone) to adjust the volume. 3. T o deactivate the speakerphone, tap Speaker . Important!: For more information, see “Responsible Listening” on page 180.
Call Functions 50 Call Waiting The Call Waiting feature allo ws you to ans wer an incoming call while you have a call in progress, if th is ser vice is supported by the network, and you must first activate the Cal l Waiting feature: 䊳 Ta p ➔ Settings ➔ Call ➔ Additional settings ➔ Call waiting .
51 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to select the desired text input method when entering characters into your phone. Th is section also describes the pred ictive text entry syst em that reduces the amount of key strokes associ ated with entering tex t.
Entering T ext 52 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad la yout keys that will change t he on- screen keys within the QWERTY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear .
53 Using Symbol/Numeric Mode Use Symbol/Numeric Mode to add numbers, symbols, or emoticons. 1. Rotate your phone counterclockwise to a Landscape orientation. 2. Ta p at the bottom of the scre en. The follow ing screen displays: 3. T a p the desired numbe r , symbol, or emoticon char acters.

Entering T ext 56 • Double-tap on the word you want to change to correct a mis s pelled word, then tap the delete key to erase one character . T ouch and hold the delete key to erase an entire w ord. Using the V oice t o T ext F eature Y ou can use your voice to ente r text using the V oice to T ext feature.
57 Section 5: Contacts and Y our Addr ess Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address Book.

61 4. T ap the phone icon to make a phon e call or tap the message icon to send a message. For more information, refer to “Creating and Sending Messages” on page 88. Tip: From the Contact list, sweep right over a listing to make a call. Sweep left over a listing to send a message.

The phone then displ ays a list of your current contacts stored on your SIM card. 3. T ap the contacts to place a checkmark adjacent to t hose entries you wish to have copied to your phone.
Multimedia 68 Section 6: Multimedia This section explains how to use the multimedia features of yo ur phone, including Media Hub, MOG Music, Music, Music Player , Movies, Live TV , Qik Lit e, Vi deos, Gallery , Camera, and Camcorder . Media Hub Samsung Media Hub is your one st op for the hott est movie and TV content.
69 7. In order to rent or buy medi a, you must first create an account. Use the keypad to enter the required information, then tap Create Account . 8. Choose a payment method a nd then follow the on-sc reen instructions. 9. The media will now be stored in the My Media folder .
Multimedia 70 Playin g Music 1. Ta p ➔ Music . 2. Read the Music Player tips and tap Done when you are finished. T ap the Do not show again field if you don’t want to see the tips again. 3. T ap a librar y categor y at the t op of the screen (All, Playlists, Albums, or Artists) to view the availa ble music files.
71 • Add to playlist: allows you to add the current music file to a selecte d playlist. • Settings : all ows you t o change y our music player settings. Multimedia 72 Re mo ving Music from a Playlist T o remove music files from a pla ylist: 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Music . 2. Ta p t h e Playlists tab.

Multimedia 78 Flash : allows you to se t the flash options to Off, On, or Auto flash. Settings: Edit shortcuts : allows you to set shortcut icons for the settings that you use the most. Self port rait : allows yo u to set the front camera so you can take pictures of yourse lf or video chat.
79 Settings (continued): Focus mode : allows you to set thi s option to Auto focus, Macro, or F a ce detection. Use Ma cro mode to take close- up pictures. F a ce detectio n causes the camera to automatically rec ognize if there is a face in the shot .
Multimedia 80 Pictur es an d Vid eos Ima ge Viewer Opt ions After you take a photo or shoot a video, you can access various options from the Pictures and Videos Im age Viewer . Available opt ions are: • Play (video only): allows you to play a video • Share : offers several ways to share your pic tur e or video.
81 • Delete : allows you to delete the c urrent picture. T ap OK to delete or Cancel . • More : allows you to do the following: – Set as (picture only): allows y ou to assign the current image as either your current W allpaper or as a Contact icon to displa y for a specific entry within your Address Boo k.
Multimedia 82 Selecti ng and U sing th e Pictu res From t he Image viewer , you have access to both macro functions (zoom, crop , and rotate) and menu options. For more information, refer to “Pictures and Videos Image Viewer Options” on page 80. Editing a Phot o Y ou can edit your photos using th e Photo editor applic a tion on your phone.
83 2. T ap and slide the Camera mode button down to Camcorder Mode. 3. Using the phone’ s main displa y screen as a viewfinder , adjust the image by aiming the camcorder at the subject. 4. T a p the Video key ( ) to be gin shooting video. The red light will blink while recording.

Accessing Videos When you shoot a video, the file i s saved in the Camera f older .
Multimedia 86 • Via B lu et o ot h : scans for a Blue tooth device on which to play the video. • Settings : allows you to set the screen brightness. • Subtitles : allows you to see subtitles on shared media . While viewing a video, you can also adjust the screen view.

Be sure and save the phot o you are work ing on bef ore starti ng a new pro ject. •S a v e : saves your photo to your galler y . •S h a r e : allows you to share your photo via AllShare, Bluetooth, Email, Facebook , Gmail, Messa ging, Picasa, or Wi-Fi.
Messaging 88 Section 7: Messaging This section describes how to send and receive different types of messages. It also includes the features an d functionality associated with messaging.

Messaging 90 • Add slide : allows you to add a new page to a message. Adding attachments to a message T o add an attachment to your message tap and select one of the followin g options: • Pictures : allows you to tap an existing image from your Pictures list to add it to your message.
91 The text is added to your message. Viewing New Receiv ed Messa ges 1. When you receive a new message, the new message icon will appear at the top of your screen. 2. Open the Notifica tion Bar and select the messa ge. For more informatio n, refer to “Notification Bar” on pa ge 37.
Messaging 92 Deleting multiple m essages 1. From th e main Home scree n, ta p Messaging . 2. Press ➔ Delete threads . 3. T ap each messa ge you want to delete . A checkmark will appear beside each message you select. 4. Ta p Delete . 5. At the Delete prompt, tap OK to delete or Cancel to cancel.
