10 Activating your phone To use your phone, you have a sm art card called a SIM card. It contain s all the informa tion needed by the network as well as other information unique to you and that you can mo dify: Secret codes ( PIN(s): Per sonal Identi fication Number s), these codes a llow you to restrict acces s to your SIM card.
11 Activating your phone The SIM card is inserted under the phone's battery. Ensure that the p hone is swit ched off and th e charger disconnected. Turn phone over and remove rear cover by pressing the two lock buttons to lift bottom end firs t. Take out battery if already installed.
12 Activating your phone Remove rear cover as above. Turn phone over. Lift front cover in same wa y as rear cover. Remove panel (electronic card). Position keypad in ne w cover, ensurin g it is free of dust. Insert panel into fro nt cover. Do as above to replace rear cover.
13 Activating your phone Your phone is powered by a rechargeabl e battery. A new battery must be charge d for at least 4 hours befo re being used for the first tim e. It reaches its opt imum capacity after a few cycl es of use. When your battery has been discharg ed, the phone displays the state (empty ba ttery icon flashes).
14 Activating your phone The antenna is integrat ed in your phone, under the b ack cover at the top. Avoid putting your fingers on this area when the pho ne is switched ON. If your fingers obstruc t the antenna, the phone may have to operate with a higher power level than usual; decreasing its efficiency quickly.
15 My phone in 5 minutes Switch on the phon e by pressing the Start key. A short d isplay appears. If access to the SIM card is protected, the device prompts you to enter the PIN number : Enter the c ode between 4 and 8 dig its given to you when the SIM card was issued.
16 My phone in 5 minutes In due course, when the battery is completely discharged, or if it has been removed, you will be prompted sys tematically to c onfirm date and time . Setting the date: Set the date by entering it directly in numeric al form or by using the down / up keys to decrease or i ncrease the defaul t values.
17 My phone in 5 minutes Dial the number o f your correspondent . Press the Start key. During the call, the call in progres s icon flashes on screen and to nes may indicate the esta blishment of the call. Once communic ation has been es tablished, the c all icon stops flash ing.
18 My phone in 5 minutes When you re ceive a call, the numbe r of your correspond ent is displayed wh en it is presente d by the network. Press the Start key or the right programmable key to answer, and spea k. To refuse the call, press the Stop key or the left programmable key .
19 First setting: Ring tone We want to familiarise you w ith the interface of your new pho ne, using a simple setting: c hoosing a ring to ne and adjusting the volume. In the home page , press the down key to access t he main menus. The first menu offered is Phonebook .
20 First setting: Ring tone With the hel p of the down / up keys select the type of functi on where you want to change t he ring t one fr om the pro posed li st (Ala rm, Calls, Message s and Local Infos) and a ccept. Enter by pressing the right programma ble key .
21 Phonebook The phonebook al lows you to store n umbers that y ou call regularly. These numbers can be s tored in the SIM card or in the phone. Different icons info rm you of the position of the phonebook where the number is stored: Your SIM card phonebo ok Your phone phonebo ok Your SIM card's fixed directory.
22 Phonebook You can also enter a lette r to access directl y the first contact starting with this letter. If you know the m emory numbe r of this contac t on the SIM card (say 21 for example), you can e nter 21# directly. Choose from the o ptions offered: See contact The first menu offered is See contact .
23 Phonebook The phonebook menu allows you to creat e new contacts, to cr eate call groups and to chec k the memory ava ilable to store new contacts. In the Phonebook screen , press the right programmable key to enter the menu. Press the up key to positio n the cursor on th e Phonebook menu and accept .
24 Phonebook Call groups (See page 25 ) Memory Select memory and accept . The screen displays the numb er of free locations on SIM card and in phone itself. My numbers You can create the entries corresponding t o your own numb ers in order to consult them whe n necessary.
25 Phonebook You have the facil ity to group your co ntacts into call group s. It is possible to alloc ate characteristics to each group (icon, ring tone, vibrate). Creating new groups : Do same as abo ve to obtain the phonebook menu and accept . Press down key to positi on the cursor on Call groups and enter .
26 Phonebook vCards can be sent to another mobile ph one using SMS. From a contact in th e phonebook, sele ct the Send contact by SMS option menu item. If the vCard is sent s uccessfully, t he SMS sending scree n is displayed. vCards can be sent to another mobile ph one using MMS.
27 Phonebook When a vCard is receiv ed in an SMS mes sage, the message “You h ave received 1 mess age” is displayed. View the vCard by opening th e SMS from the inbox. Add this contact to the phonebook by pressing Softkey 2. A mes sage is displayed to confirm the action.
28 Messages The message men u brings together t he following tw o types of mes sages: SMS and EMS (an EMS is an extended mes sage, longer than an SMS with images and sou nds added). It is possible to exc hange different types of contents: text, call group icons, scre en backgrounds, tunes, W AP bookmarks.
29 Messages The Easy Message T9™ helps you to conv eniently enter you r short messages. Using T9 Mo de Press once the key co rresponding to the lette r chosen and make the word by continuin g to pre.
30 Messages In the input screen, the right progra mmable key is used to access other input options . Input modes The ABC mode is used to enter words th at do not exis t in the dictionary. To obtain a letter, press the corresponding key several tim es, the letters and the number sc roll past.
31 Messages From the Messages menu choose t he Compose m enu and Enter. Choose MMS from th e proposed options (SMS or M MS). The functions offered are : Subject: the subject of your message goes here. To: this option give s access to the phonebook. Cc: this option also giv es access to the phonebook.
32 Messages Saving your message You can save your message as a draft by sele cting “Save” from the options, when ed iting the Subjec t or the Body. Yo u will be able to e dit it later from the “Draft” Menu. Sending MMS messages You have the choice to activate or deac tivate the storing of mes sages in your Outbox after se nding.
33 Messages The number of mess ages stored in t he SIM card varies depending on the card's capacity. When you receive a m essage, an audio s ignal sounds (the one selected in the Sounds menu) and the mess age icon appears on your p hone screen. If you do not read the messages, this ico n remains displayed on the screen.
34 Messages Received messages are sto red in the SIM card or in the phone until you choose to delete them. From the Messages menu choose the Inbox menu and Select . Each message conta ins information on type of me ssage (in the form of an icon) and time (or date) of reception.
35 Messages From the Messages menu choose the Drafts menu and Select . Select a message an d press the right programmable key . If you do not delete this message, it will remain as a draft and can be re-used even if you have already sent it. Choose from the o ptions offered (Rea d, Send, Delete, D elete all, Modify).
36 Messages The proposed MMS opt ions are: Store sent msgs: (it is h ighly recommende d that you keep this func tion deactivated, in or der to avoid a full memo ry), Retrieval mode (a utomatic or manu.
37 Messages You can choose whether or not to receive inf ormation (ask the company with which you to ok out your su bscription). From the Messages menu select the Local info. menu and Select . Local info This menu is used to activate recept ion of local inf ormation broadcast by the network.
38 WA P WAP (Wireless Applica tion Protocol): protocol that tra nslates the Internet language into WML langu age that can be read by a phone . The WAP function allows y ou to log onto c ertain Internet sit es. You can log onto sites that allow you to download tunes , icons or anim ated screensavers to your phone.
39 WA P Advanced…: offers the follow ing advanced setti ngs - Configuring parameters - Show URL - Logoff - Circuit message (if user can confirm eac h logon) - Security (is used to access information on making WAP connections secure). About…: information on the brow ser.
40 WA P The GSM parame ters to be entered are: - User name - Password - IP address of WAP gateway - Port type (secure or insecure) - Call number - Access mode (digital, analogue or aut omatic) In automatic mode acc ess can be gained to th e operator's network by a digital link and by an analogue link to a different n etwork (in roaming).
41 WA P Some WAP sites allow you to downloa d ring tones, icon s or animated screensavers. Once d ownloaded, they are stored in your pho ne's memory. You can t hen save them in y our phone (same o peration as used for downloading u sing SMS). To log off press Stop key.
42 Games Your phone is supplied w ith Picture Puzzle. You can also downl oad new games depending on your phone and your subscrip tion. From the Games menu select t he Downloaded ga. menu and press OK ; this menu can also be accessed from the idle screen by a long press on the 9 key.
43 Sounds This menu allows you to customise the ring ton es on your phone and to activate beep an d vibrate modes. From the Sounds menu choose Ring tones menu and Select . Select the t ype of event from th e list offered (Ala rm, Calls, Message s and Local Inf os) and accept .
44 Sounds WARNING: vibrate mode is not a priority in relation to the choice of ring tones in the call g roups. To make vibrat e mode apply in gen eral, switch to Silent mode. From the Sounds menu select Silent mode and Select . Activate or deactivate Silent mode and accept .
45 Background This menu allows y ou to customis e your screen by choosing th e colour, background image , animation or greeting m essage. From the Background menu select t he Colours menu and Select . Select the colour you w ant to see during na vigation from the m enus and accept .
46 Background From the Background menu s elect the Screensavers menu and Select . Select a screensaver from the options offere d and accept. The chosen screensav er appears on the screen , accept it. Adjust the screensaver dis play time (greater than 6 0 seconds) and accept .
47 Settings This menu allows y ou to customise the settings of your phone to make it as convenient as po ssible for you to use. From the Settings menu select the Date / Time menu and Sele ct . Date : set the date by entering it directly in di gital form or by using the down / up keys.
48 Settings From the Settings menu select the Languages menu and Select . Select the languag e of your choice and accept . If you select Automatic , the display langu age will be the language of your SIM card. From the Settings menu select the Networks menu and Select .
49 Settings From the Settings menu select the Contrast menu and Select . A test screen allows you to adjust the contras t by means of the down / up keys and enter . From the Settings menu select the Energy saving menu and Select . Activate or deactivate the backlight and accept .

51 Calls The Calls menu allow s you to manage a nd consult all yo ur phone's incoming and out going calls that are marked as fo llows: Incoming call Outgoing call Fast access to the list of calls from the home page: press the Start key.

53 Calls During a call you may be info rmed that a caller is trying to reach yo u: you hear a special to ne. The caller's nu mber is display ed on the screen (o r the caller's name if it has been stor ed). From the Calls menu select the Cal l waitin g menu and Select .
54 Calls From the Calls menu select the Blacklist menu and Sele ct . When several automa tic calls failed with a number (num ber busy or unknown), this number is put in the bla cklist and no automatic call will be done with this numb er any more until yo u delete it from the blacklist.
55 Security This menu allows y ou to configure your phone's sec urity settings. From the Security menu select the Keypad locking menu and Select .
56 Security The Phone code menu allows you to activa te the phone code so that it is requested and check ed whenever the phone is sw itched on if a different SIM card is used. This code is autom atically linke d to the SIM card installed when the phone is activated.
57 Security The Confidentiality function is used to delete n umbers stored in Vi ew last calls and the SMS s tored in the memory w hen a new SIM ca rd is inserted into the phone. From the Security menu, select the Confidentiality menu and Select . Select Activate or Deactivate and accept .
58 Security Call barring can be ap plied to ALL calls (inc oming and outgoing ), to all incoming calls when you are away from y our home country (if roaming available). Before you can use this service, a pas sword will be prov ided by your operator when you take out your subscription.
59 Security From the Security menu, select the Costs menu and Select . This menu enabl es you to check th e cost of th e last call you have made: you can also che ck the cost of all the calls made since you have reset the durations (Menu Counters/Duration/Delet e Duration ) The Delete costs menu enables you to delete the cost of the last call.
60 Accessories This menu allows y ou to access the various access ories offered by you r phone: calculator, co nverter, alarm, tim er, car kit, data para meters.
61 Accessories From the Accessories menu, select the Converter menu and Sele ct . Enter a value and press th e Up key to convert from one c urrency to another, or the Down key to convert back .
62 Accessories The alarm works even w hen the phone i s switched off. From the Accessories menu, select the Alarm menu and Select . Activate or Deactivate the alarm and accept . Set the waking time by entering the nu mbers directly or u sing the down / up keys and accept .
63 Accessories From the Accessories menu, select the Car kit menu and Select . Choose from the o ptions offered (Automat ic response, Switc h off, Alarm timing, Hands-free vol ume control). From the Accessories menu, select the Data parameters menu and Enter .
64 Services This menu allows you to acce ss numerous service s offered by your operator. The list of these service s will appear in the m enu depending on your subscription . From the Services menu, choose from the list offered. Services This menu allows you to ac cess your operator's basic services.
65 T echnical features Use of your phone is subject to safety measures designed to pr otect users and t heir environment. Electrical safet y Only use those chargers listed in t he manufacturer’s catalogue. Using any ot her charger may be dangerous; it would al so invalidate your warr anty.
66 T echnical features Validation of conformity with Eur opean directive 1999/5 (directive R&TTE ) is a pre-r equisite for int roducing any model of phone onto the market. Protection of health and the safety of the publ ic and the user ar e a vital requi rement of this directive.
67 W arranties Usage precautions Your mobile phone allows you to dow nload ring tones, icons and animated screensavers. Some of these i tems may contain data that may cause malf unctions of your mobil e phone or data losses (virus for example).
68 W arranties Prior to sending the equipment for r epair, it is the customer's responsibi lity to backup at his expense the customised data sto red in the equipment (phonebook, settings, wa llpapers). A list of backup facilities can be provided by SAGEM SA on requ est.
69 W arranties 5. In the cases of warranty exclusion and of expiry of the warranty period, SAGEM SA shall draw up an estimate to be given to the customer for acceptance before any call-out. The repair and carri age costs (there and b ack) given in the accepted estimate will be charged to the customer.
70 T roubleshooting P ROBLEM - S ITUATION A CTIONS Impossible to start phone Hold down the Start key (3 s). Charge the phone up for 15 minut es before starting it again. Check the battery change icon s crolls. Y es : charge correct. No: disconnect the charger, then reconnect it, check that the battery icon scrolls.
71 T roubleshooting No call connection Check the called number . Check that at leas t one signal strength bar is present. If t he R icon appears without any operator name being displayed, only emergency calls are possible. Check that your call credit with your operator has not been used up.
72 T roubleshooting How do I switch to si lent mode? Hold key down unless ring tone sounds, when a short touch is en ough. How do I activate zoom? Can be activated only i n SMS and W AP screens; hold do wn key . How do I remove the enve lop that appears on the scr een? This envelop means that y ou have written or answer phone.
