• 3 • CA UTION This appliance is for household use only . Any servicing, other than cleaning and user maintenance, should be performed by an authorized service center . Do not immerse machine in water . T o reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not disassemble the machine.
• 4 • GENERAL INFORMATION The co ee machine is suitable for preparing espresso co ee using either co ee beans or ground co ee and is equipped with a device to dispense steam and hot wat er . The structure of the ma- chine has been designed for domestic use only and is not suitable for continuous professional- type operation.

• 8 • • 8 • • Switch the pow er button to “I” to turn the machine on. Circuit Priming • T o prime the water cir cuit, place a container under the steam w and (Pannar ello, if supplied). • Make sur e the selector dial is in the “ ” position; if this is not the case, set it to that position.
• 9 • Steady on Steady on Steady on Using the machine for the first time or after a long period of inactivity. These simple opera tions will make it pos- sible to always br ew excellent co ee. 1 Place a lar ge container under the dispensing spout.
• 10 • • 10 • ADJUSTMENTS The machine that y ou have bought allows for certain adjustments that will permit you to use it t o its full potential . S aeco Adapting System Coffee is a natur al produc t and its cha- racteristics may change accor ding to its origin, blend and roast.
• 11 • At this point the button “ ” is program- med; each time it is pressed and r eleased, the machine will brew the same amount of co ee that was just programmed . Stand-by The machine is designed for energy sa- ving. The machine automatically turns o after 30 minutes of inactivity .
• 12 • • 12 • Dispensing Spout Adjustment Most cups on the market can be used with this co ee machine. The height of the dispensing spout ma y be adjusted to better t the dimensions of the cups that you wish t o use. Manually move the dispensing spout up or down to adjust its height by placing your ngers as shown in the gure.
• 13 • Using Pre-ground Co ee This function allows using pre-ground and dec a eina- ted co ee. Pre-ground coffee must be poured int o the appropriat e compartment positioned next to the co ee bean hopper . Only use ground co ee for espresso machines and never co ee beans or instant co ee.
• 14 • • 14 • • T urn the selec tor dial clockwise to set it to the “ ” position. Note: The lights that indica- te the aroma are off when dispensing hot water . cleaned and free of any milk residue. T o prepare your cappuccino, we recommend discharging the water in the st eam wand.
• 15 • • Immerse the st eam wand (P annarello, if supplied) in the milk to be heated . • T urn the selector dial counter-clockwise to set it to the “ ” position.
• 16 • • 16 • Pannar ello. • W e recommend cleaning the w ater tank daily . For an easier remov al of the water tank, mov e the steam wand / Pannar ello upwards: - Remove the small whit e lter in the water tank and w ash it under running drinking water .
• 17 • DESC ALING Limescale normally builds up with the use of the appliance. The machine must be descaled when the icon appears on the display . Do not turn the machine o or put it in stand-by mode during the descaling process. Use the Saeco descaling prod- uct only.
• 18 • • 18 • Note: if the " " button lights up steady immediately after start-up, the machine needs circuit priming; turn the selec tor dial clockwise to the " " position. When the " " icon is displayed , turn the selector back to " " position.
• 19 • 16 When the rinsing water in the wat er tank is nished, the " " light starts blinking. 17 T urn the selector dial to the " " posi- tion. Empty the container under the steam wand and the one under the dispensing spout.
• 20 • • 20 • The descaling solution is to be disposed of according to the manufacturer ’ s instructions and/or the regulations in force in the country of use. After completing the des- caling c ycle, wash the bre w group as described in the "Brew Group" section in the "Cleaning and Maintenance" chapter .
• 21 • CONTROL P ANEL DISPLAY Ready Signals • T he machine is ready for brewing co ee from bean and hot water dispensing . • T he machine is ready for pre- ground co ee brewing . • T he machine is programming the amount of co ee to be brewed for each espresso co ee.
• 22 • • 22 • • T he machine is per forming the rinse c ycle. W ait until the machine stops the opera- tion. • T he machine needs a descaling c ycle. • T he machine needs water circuit priming . Warning Signals • T he machine is warming up to brew co ee and dispense hot water or st eam.
• 23 • Machine Actions Causes Solutions The machine does not turn on. T h e machine is not connected to the power source. Connect the machine to the power sour ce. The co ee is not hot enough. The cups are c old. W arm the cups with hot water .
