This T echnical Manual contains impor tant information regarding maintenance of the Barrett F oldaw ay Wheelchair thus ensuring its saf e operation. Please make sure that y ou understand all instructions thoroughly . It is recommended that maintenance is under taken at six monthly inter v als f or a wheelchair that is in constant daily use.

SECTION 4: MAINTENANCE CHECKS 4.1 Open the wheelchair , all mov ements should be free throughout the folding r ange. 4.1.1 Examine the seat and backrest f abr ics f or wear , damage or staining. Examine retaining screws f or tightness and general condition.

7.3 Inspection Check armpad f or excess w ear or damage. Check armpad is secured to frame. Check side panel is not damaged. Ensure ar mrest locates in rear brac ket on push handle when fitted to wheelchair .

8.3 Inspection Check that f ootrest assembly loc ks into position forw ard and backw ard. Apply light grease to s wiv elling end. Ensure that stem clamp holds f ootplate in position. Ensure that f ootplate will remain in ver tical position when required.

9.3 Inspection Check ball knob f or secur ity . Check le vers f or distor tion. Check br azed joints f or crac ks. Check piv ot shafts f or distor tion. Replace piv ot bolts if necessar y due to excessiv e wear . Ensure no oil/grease on brak e pad. 9.

10.3 Inspection Check each push handle f or evidence of bending. Check each push handle f or evidence of cr acking through nutser t holes. Check handg r ip is secure. Check f or free mov ement of plunger . Lubr icate with light oil. Check that plunger locates in the hole at rear of the side fr ame.

13.5 Wheel Fitting Hold the he xagon section of the axle between the wheel and the wheelchair frame . Apply LOCTITE Thread Locking Compound Gr ade 241 to the M12 Thread and tighten the M12 nut to a torque of 30 to 35 lbs/ft (40 to 47 Nm) to secure the wheel to the wheelchair .

14.4 Wheel Remov al Ensure the brak e is not applied. With one hand hold the frame of the wheelchair and with the other hand hold the spokes surrounding the hub and fully depress the centre b utton pulling the wheel aw a y from the wheelchair axle bush and releasing the centre b utton.
