Camer a User Guide The serial number of this product is given on the bottom face of the camera. Basic Operations If you are using the camera for the first time , read this section. This section provides a basic overview of how to turn on the camera, take pictures and play back pictures.

About the Electronic Level When [Level Setting] is turned on, the camera uses a lev el indicator and level sound to let you know whether the image is level during shooting. This is useful for keeping the image level when taking pictures of scenery or buildings.

5 0 1 Shooting Mode T ypes 1 Shooting Mode T ypes Setting Modes Acc ording to the Scene ( W ) In scene mode, camera settings are automa tically optimized for the selected subject type. Y ou can choose from one of the following 13 subject types. Scene Modes Portrait Use for portraits.

5 3 1 Shooting Mode T ypes Selecting a S cene Mode 1 T urn the mode dial to W . • The camera is ready to shoot and the selected scene mode is displayed at the top of the picture display . HD ĵĻ Ĵ Ň ĵ Ļ Ĵ Ň 2 Press the MENU button t o change the scene mode.
5 4 1 Shooting Mode T ypes Using Sk ew C orrection Mode 1 Select [Skew Correct Mode] in the scene mode menu and press the ADJ./OK button. 2 Press the shutter r elease button to shoot the picture. • The display indicates that the image is being processed, and then the area recogniz ed as the correction range is displayed with an orange frame.
5 5 1 Shooting Mode T ypes Shooting with Creatv e Effec t ( X ) In X (creative shooting) mode, the camera adds v arious effects to the photo. Y ou can choose from the following sev en effect types. Creativ e Shooting Mode Options Dynam ic Range Create images with na tural contrast, reducing loss of detail in shadows and highlights.

5 7 1 Shooting Mode T ypes Dynamic Range Double Shot “Dynamic range” refers to the range of brightnesses (tone lev els) that can be expressed by the camera. Dynamic range double shot creat es a smooth transition from highlights to shado ws for natural contr ast.
5 8 1 Shooting Mode T ypes The effect can be chosen using the [Dynamic Range Expansion] option when [Dynamic Range] is selec ted in creative shooting mode . If an option other than [AUT O] is highlighted when you push the ADJ ./OK button F , the menu shown at right will be displayed.
5 9 1 Shooting Mode T ypes 3 Push the ADJ./OK button !" t o reposition the area that will be in focus. • For help, press the F n button. Press the Fn button again t o clear help from the display . 4 Push the ADJ./OK button NF t o choose the width of the area that will be in focus.
6 0 1 Shooting Mode T ypes T aking a S eries of Photos ( R ) T urn the mode dial to R (continuous mode) to use the various continuous shooting functions. Continuous Modes AF Continuous Shoot. Pictures continue t o be taken as long as you hold down the shutter release button, focusing b y individual shot.

6 2 1 Shooting Mode T ypes Note ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Focus (except with AF c ontinuous shoot. mode), exposure value, and white balance are locked. • ISO sensitivit y is raised. • Flickering may be recorded as horiz ontal bands when pictures are taken under fluorescent lights .
6 3 1 Shooting Mode T ypes M-Cont Plus (2M) The last 26 frames (about the last 0.9 seconds of shooting) are recorded , creating a single multi-picture (MP) file. When you remov e your finger from the shutter release button... …the camera records the 26 fr ames taken in the last 0.
6 4 1 Shooting Mode T ypes Setting Aper ture and Shutter Speed ( A/S) T urn the mode dial to A/S (aperture/shutter speed priority mode) to change the aper ture or shutter speed. Setting Aperture Aperture priority mode allows you to choose the aperture from the [Open] and [Minimum] options.
6 5 1 Shooting Mode T ypes • When [Auto Aperture Shift] ( G P .73) is set to [On], the camer a will automatically adjust aperture to prevent ov erexposure . Setting Shutter Speed Shutter speed priority mode allows you to choose a shutter speed between 1/2000 seconds to 8 seconds.
6 6 2 Shooting Menu 2 Shooting Menu The shooting menu is used to adjust camera settings when taking pictures. T o display the shooting menu, press the MENU butt on when the camera is in shooting mode. Using the Shooting Menu 1 Press the MENU button in shooting mode.
6 7 2 Shooting Menu Shooting Menu Options Shooting men u options ------------------------------------------------------------ The options in the shooting menu vary with the selected shooting mode. In scene and creative shooting modes , the options available vary with the scene or creative shooting mode option selected .

6 9 2 Shooting Menu Pre-AF If [On] is selected when [Multi AF], [F ace Pr . Multi], [Subj. T racking], [Spot AF], or [Multi-trgt AF] is selected for [F ocus], the camera will continue to focus ev en when the shutter-release button is not pr essed halfway .
7 0 2 Shooting Menu Opt. Zoom Super Resolution The super resolution pr ocess applies to still images to enhance picture resolution. Select the level from [Off ], [ Weak], and [Strong] f or this process. The processing time vary depending on the selec ted level.
7 1 2 Shooting Menu Interval Shooting Y ou can set the camera to automatically take pictures at fixed intervals. Y ou can set the shooting interval from five seconds to one hour in increments of five seconds .
7 2 2 Shooting Menu Slow Shutter Limit The maximum shutter speed can be limited to the f ollowing: 1/8 second, 1/4 second, and 1/2 second. When this function is set to [Off ], the maximum shutter speed varies depending on the ISO setting.
7 3 2 Shooting Menu Auto Aperture Shift Set to [On] so the camera will automatically adjust aperture to pr event overexposur e. Shutter Speed Auto Shift Set to [On] so the camera will automatically adjust the shutt er speed to obtain the best exposure if that cannot be obtained using the shutter speed set manually .

7 7 2 Shooting Menu Color Br acketing ( CL-BKT ) With color bracketing , three images, a black-and-white , a color , and a sepia image, are r ecorded. An icon is displayed when [ CL -BKT ] is selected.
7 8 2 Shooting Menu Note ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • When [Focus] is set to [MF], the first picture is taken at the set f ocus position without being measured. • [ Whit e Balance] functions according to the [A uto] setting even if it is set to [Multi-P AUT O].
7 9 2 Shooting Menu White Balance Adjust the white balance so that a whit e subject will appear white. At purchase, the white balanc e mode is set to [Multi-P AUT O].

8 1 3 Shooting and Viewing Movies 3 Shooting and V iewing Movies Shooting Movies A VI format movies can be recorded with sound by pressing the 3 (Movie) button during shooting photos. The camera will set focus and exposur e and begin recor ding; a [ O ] icon blinks in the display while recor ding is in progress.
8 2 3 Shooting and Viewing Movies Note ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • During recording, the z oom lever can be used for optical and digital zoom ( G P .30). Super resolution zoom and step zoom are not available .
8 3 3 Shooting and Viewing Movies Movie Menu Y ou can change the movie settings by displaying the movie menu . Using the Movie Menu 1 Press the MENU button. • The menu display appears. 2 Push the ADJ./OK button N . 3 Push the ADJ./OK button " t o select the 3 (movie) tab.
8 4 3 Shooting and Viewing Movies Movie Menu Options Movie Size G P .151 Choose the movie frame size. Snap Movie Set the recording time f or snap movies. When [Cust om] is selected, you can set the time from 1 to 60 seconds . Setting the time for snap movies changes the movie mode to snap movie mode.
8 5 3 Shooting and Viewing Movies Splitting a Movie Y ou can split a movie into two files. 1 Select a movie to be split in playback mode. 2 Select [Split Movie] (P . 88) in the playback menu. • For instructions on how to use the playback menu, see P .
8 6 4 Playback Menu 4 Playback Menu The options in the playback menu can be used to perform a variety of operations on existing pictures. T o display the playback menu, select playback mode and press the MENU button. Using the Pla yback Menu 1 Press the 6 (Pla yback) button to select the playback mode.

8 9 4 Playback Menu Flag F unction Setting Flag images for quick ac cess during playback. Flagged images can be displayed by pr essing the Fn button. Setting/Canceling One F ile at a Time T o flag or remove flag marking from the current image, select [F lag F unction Setting] in single -image playback.
9 0 4 Playback Menu Flag F unction Order Change the display order of images flagged with [F lag Function Setting]. Specifying by Individual File 1 Select [Sel. Indiv.] and pr ess the ADJ./OK button. 2 Select a file and press the ADJ./OK button. • I f you selected a file by mistake, you can deselect it by selecting the file and pressing the ADJ.
9 1 4 Playback Menu T rim Create a cr opped copy of the current photograph. T urn the zoom lever tow ard 8 or 9 to adjust the crop size and push the ADJ./OK button !"NF to position the crop . Press the ADJ ./OK button to save the cr opped image to a separate file.
9 2 4 Playback Menu • The size of the image after cropping depends on the size of the original and the size of the crop (the first cr op shown in the trimming display is the second largest crop; to displa y the largest crop , select 9 with the zoom lever).

9 5 4 Playback Menu • T o increase contrast, alig n the black point and white point with the darkest and brightest pixels. • For help, pr ess the Fn button; pr ess the button again to return to the preview display . Press the ADJ ./OK button to create the c orrected copy .
9 6 4 Playback Menu Caution --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Y ou can only use white balance compensation for still images shot using this camera. • Y ou cannot correct the white balance for movies or MP files .

9 9 4 Playback Menu Selecting Multiple Files T o change the print status of multiple individual files, select [DPOF] in thumbnail view . Select photos and push the ADJ./OK button !" to choose the number of prints; push the ADJ./OK button ! to incr ease the number of copies, or push the ADJ.
