1 Introduction Introduction The S8 Lightweight II continuous posit ive airway pressure (CPAP) system is indicated for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoe a (OSA) in patients > 30 kg. The S8 Lightweight II CPAP system is intended for home and hospital use.
2 The S8 Lightweight II System Your S8 Lightweight II comprises: • S8 Lightweight II positive air wa y pressure device • 2 m air tubing • P o wer cord • Carr y bag. Optional components include: • ResSca n™ Dat a Card • 3 m air tubing • DC-1 2 con verter .
3 Using the S8 Lightweight II Using the S8 Lightweight II ! WARNING • Make sure the power cord and plug are in good conditio n and the equipment is not damaged. • Only Re sMed air tubing should be us ed with the device . A dif ferent type of air tubing may alter th e pressure you actually receive, reducing the effec ti veness of your treatment.
4 Start Treatment 1 Make sure the power is on. The product name is displayed brie fl y on the LCD screen, then the standby (Ramp) screen appears. Th e key and LCD backl ights also turn on. 2 Lie down and arrange the air tubing so that it is free to move if you turn in your sleep.
5 Using the S8 Lightweight II The S8 Lightweight II keyp ad has the following keys: The keypad and LCD are equipped with backligh ts that come on when the device is powered. The LCD backlight turns off after two minutes of inactivity, and comes back on when you press a key.
6 How to Change the Settings on your S8 Lightweight II You can change settings (such as Ramp Time) on the S8 Lightwei ght II by using the keypad and LCD. When the S8 Lightweight II i s in standby mode you can display a series of screens (a menu) on the LCD screen in order to view and change the settings for a particular function.
7 Using the S8 Lightweight II 1 . On the st andby (RAMP) screen, press . 2. Press until you see EPR LEVEL, then press (Change). 3. Press or until you see the setting that you require. 4. Press (Apply) to save the setting. How to change the language setting 1 .
8 Using the Data Card to Collect data If your clinician needs to review your tr eatment, they will ask you to use the Data Card to copy data from your S8 Lightweight II, and to return th e card to them. The Data Card will be provided in a protective folder.
9 Cleaning and Maintenance ! CAUTION • Do not hang the air t ubing in direct sunlight as it may harden over tim e and eventually crac k. • Do not use bleac h , c hlori ne, alcohol, or aromatic-based solutions , moisturising or antibacter ial soaps or scented oils to clean the air tubing or the S8 Lightweight I I.
10 Servicing ! CAUTION • Do not at tempt to open the S8 Ligh tweight II case. There are no user serviceable par ts inside. • Inspection and repa ir should only be performed b y an authorised agent. Under no circumstances sh ould you attempt to serv ice or repair the S8 Lightweight II yourself.
11 T roubleshooting Anything special I should do before putting the mask on? Before wearing your mask, wash your face to remove excess facial oils. This will allow a better fit and prolong the life of the mask cushion. Do not use moisturiser when wearing a mask.

15 General W arnings and Cautions • In the ev ent of pow er failure or mac hine malfunction, remove the mask. • The S8 Lightweight II can be set to deliver pressures up to 20 cm H 2 O. I n t h e unlik ely ev ent of certain fault cond itions, pressures up to 30 cm H 2 O are possible.
16 Limited Warranty ResMed warrants that your ResMed product shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for the period specifie d below from the date of purchase by the initial co nsumer. Thi s warranty is not tr ansferable. Not e: Some models are not avai lable in all regions.
