Chapter 1: Overv iew 1 Chapter 1: Overview 1.1 Intr oduction This handbook prov ides instruction s to assist you in the ins tallation and set up of the foll owing radar scanners: 2D 18" 2 kW Rado.

Fa ilure to obse rve this may resu lt in perm an ent d amag e to t hes e dis pla y unit s. The 10 kW open array scan ner requir es 24 V or higher; it will not operate on 12 V systems.
Chapter 1: Overv iew 3 In the case of SSB radios, the distance should be increase d to 2 m (7 ft). • More than 2 m (7 ft) from the path of a radar beam. A radar beam can normally be assumed to spread 20 degrees above and below the radiating element.

14 P athfinder Radar Scanner s Po we r ca b l e The radome radar systems ar e intended for use on ships ’ DC power systems operating i n the 10.7 to 32 V DC range (that is, 12 V and 24 V systems, no t 32 V systems).
Chapter 1: Overv iew 15 Note: If you have an 18" r adome scanner, and the wir e gauge re- quired for your extended power cable is unacceptably large, you should rep lace the supplied light (2 power cor e) inter-unit cable wit h the 25 m heavy (4 power cor e) inter-unit cable as sembly (see table).

Chapter 1: Overv iew 17 24 V a nd 32 V Sys tems - 10 kW s canners 10 kW open array scanners can use any combination of int er-unit cable up to a maximum l ength of 35 m. However , these systems use considerable power and installation s should be pl anned to minimize all cable lengths.

Connecting the radome scanner inter-unit cable CAUTION: Before wiring the scanner un it, make sure that the inter-unit cable is not connected and power is not appli ed to the display unit.

If the clamp has been closed, insert a small, flat-blade screwdriver into the s lots at the end of the clamp opposi te the hinge and twist gently .

Remove the 8-way plu g from the signal connector and fit to the cable as shown in the following diagram. The terminal clamps are operated using a screwdriver as s hown.

Y ou can then set up the radar system, align the scanner and check the display timing.
