3 VG-2 Protection — makes your detector invisible to th e VG-2 radar-d etector detecto r when it senses VG -2 oper- ation. X-, K-, Ka-Band, and La ser Signal Detection — warns you when it dete cts signals from traf fic radar or laser de- vices. Different tones and display indicat ors let you know the type of signal received .
4 Memory Retention — retains opera tional setting s in memory without p ower, so when you turn on your de tec- tor, the settings will be the same as when y ou turned it off. Instant On or Pulse Radar Prot ection — alerts you to sudden high le vel radar and la ser signals.

8 INSTALLATION SELECTING A MOUNTING LOCATION For the best performance, sele ct a location f or the detec- tor where it ha s a direct view of t he road.
9 • Since windo w tinting reduce s the receiv ed strength of laser signals , y ou shou ld not mount th e detector behind an y t inted glass . • Do not mount th e detector wher e the driv er or a pas- senger might hit it in a sudden st op or accident.
10 1. Clean the selected windshield ar ea, position the brac k et on the wind shield, and press firmly on each suction cup to secure it in place. 2. Slide the detector onto the base plat e until it snaps into place . If it is necessary to adjust the mounting angle, remov e the detector from the brack et, then the brack e t from the windshie ld.
11 HOOK-AND-LOOP MOUNTING In some vehic les, the dashboard ma y be the best locatio n to mount the det ector. For this mounting, use the supplied hoo k- and-loop tape. Follow t hese steps to use the hook-and-loo p tape. 1. Use a damp cloth to clean the bot tom of the dete ctor and the dashboar d.
12 CONNECTING P O WER Caution : • Use only the supplied pow er cord. If your power cord is lost or damaged, y ou can order a replacement cord from y our loca l RadioShac k store.
13 OPERATION T URNING ON THE DETECTOR To turn on the detect or, rotate VO L U M E / O F F to- ward VO L U M E until it clicks. The detector will sound a tone, and will greet you with its real voice alert — “Welcome! Buckle your seat be lt.
14 T UTORIAL MODE Your detector has the tuto rial mode to demonstrate a ll of its alert indica tors. In the t utorial mode, you can check the status of all the indi ca to rs an d th e sin gle digit display. Star ting the T utorial Mode To start the tuto rial mode, turn on the detector while hold- ing down DIM and CITY .
15 Finishing the T utorial Mode To finish the tutorial mo de, press CITY at any time except when the voice alarm is op erating. OPERATION SETTINGS Selecting the City and Highway Modes Your detector has two op erating modes: city and high- way.
16 To select the city mode, press CITY . The voice alert says, “city mode,” and C appears on the single digit display. Note : If you set the display brightness to dark mode, the single digit display shows only - . To show C or H , set the display brightn ess to bright or dim mode .
17 Muting the A udio Aler t While the detector so unds a radar or saf ety alert signal, you can press MUTE to tempor arily silence the dete ctor. When you press MUTE , the voice alert says, “mute on .” The detector a utomatically resets the mute to of f about 20 seconds after the radar or safety alert signal stops.
18 RECEIVING AND IDENTIFYING RADAR , LASER , AND SAFETY ALERT SIGNALS When your d etector senses a radar sign al , X or K/Ka appear on the di splay depending on which band is de - tected; it sounds a n al ert to ne fo r the t ype o f ban d d etect - ed; and the single d igit display shows the signa l strength in numeric form.
19 For radar sign al detection , if the sig- nal strength number goes higher than 3 , the voice alert says, “X- band detecte d,” “K-band det ected,” or “Ka-band de tected,” resp ectively.
20 T R OUBLESHOOTING If you have problems operatin g your detector, th e sug- gestions in this section might help. If you cannot solve the problem aft er trying thes e suggest ions, take you r detec- tor to your local RadioShac k store for assistance.
21 The detector gi v es a f alse aler t when you use ve hicle accessories such as pow er windo ws , motorized mirrors, brakes , and so on. Check the v ehicle's electrical sys- tem for loose connections, includ- ing the main batter y cable and alter nator connections.

23 REPLACING THE FUSE If the detector stops operating, follo w these steps to check the fuse in th e power cord's cig arette lighter plug and replace it with a 2-amp, 1 1 / 4 × 1 / 4 , fast-acting fuse (Cat.
24 4. Replace the met al tip inside the ring, mak e sure the spring is intact, then place the fuse inside the ciga- rette-lighter plug and scre w the ring bac k onto the plug. Make sure the tip is visible when you reassem- ble the cigarette- lighter plug.
