10 INSTALLA TION MOUNTING THE P H ONE You can place the TAD-727's bas e on a desk or table, mou nt it on a standard wall plate , or mount it directly on a wall.
11 4. Route the adapte r's cord through the stra in reli ef slot on the bas e. 5. Plug the adapter into a standar d AC outlet. PF (power failure) flashes on the d igital display . 6. Lift the bas e's antenna to a vertic al position . On a W all Plate or W all 1.
12 1. Drill two holes 3 15 / 16 inch es (100 mm) apart. Then th read a screw in to each hole, letting the heads e xtend about 5 / 16 i n c h ( 8 m m ) from the w all. 2. Plug one en d of the s upplied lo ng modula r cord into the TEL LINE ja ck on the bac k of the ba se.
13 To char ge the batter y pack, pl ace the handset ei ther faceu p or facedown on the bas e. The IN USE/CHARGE i ndica- tor on the base li ghts. Recharge the b attery pac k when the TALK/LOW B ATT indicator o n the h and- set flas hes. Important: Be sure the b attery pack is properly connected before you try to charge i t.
14 SETTING THE DI ALI NG MODE Set PULSE/TO N E on th e back o f the base for the type of ser vice you ha ve. If you are not sure which typ e you have, once the ba ttery pac k is fully c harged, do this te st. 1. B e sure P U LSE/T O NE is set to TON E .

At a ny time except during a call, press VOLUME or to set the ringer volume e ither high or low. E ach t ime you press VO LUME or , the h and- set rin gs at the s elect ed volum e.
16 T EL EPH ON E OP E RAT IO N MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS To make a call, li ft the ha ndset and press TA L K . Whe n you hea r the dial tone, dial the number . To answe r a call , just li ft the hands et when the h andset is on th e bas e or press an y key on the handset wh en it is off the bas e.
17 USING FLASH Flash perfor ms the electr onic equi va- lent of a switc hhook op eration for spe - cial se rvi ces, su ch as Call W aitin g. For exam ple, if you ha ve Cal l Wait ing, press FLASH to answer an i nco mi ng ca ll without disconne cting the cur rent c all.

20 T esting Stored Emergency Numbers If you store a n emer gency s ervice's number (pol ice dep artment, fi re depart- ment, ambu lanc e) and y ou choo se to test the st ored nu mber, make the test call dur ing the la te evening or ear ly morning hours to avoi d peak demand periods.
21 T AD OPERATION You can use the base or the hand set to control the TAD. With the hands et, you set the r emote operati on pers onal ide nti- fication number (PIN), s elect the ou tgo- ing mess age, rec ord outgoi ng message s, memos, or telephone con - versation , turn the TAD on and off, pla y message s, and dele te a curren t mes- sage.
22 2. Repeate dly pres s PREVIOUS or SKIP on the bas e unt il the T AD announ ces and di splay s the numbe r of rings yo u desire – “tw o” so the T AD ans wers on the sec ond ring, “five” for fifth ri ng, or “toll saver ” when you want to use the t oll-saver function.
23 Notes: • If you make an error , the T AD beeps rapidly 3 times . Repeat Steps 1–7 . • Press each butt on within 30 s ec- onds of th e pre vious b utton pr ess.

25 SCREENING CALLS You can l et the TAD an swer cal ls for you while you liste n to th e caller's m essage through the base's speake r. Yo u can ad - just the vo lume of call er's vo ice using the VOLUME on the base.

28 REMOTE OPERATION USI N G THE T OLL -SAVER When you call the TAD-727 and the number o f rings t o answe r calls i s set to “toll- save r”, it ans wers after about two rings i f you have ne w message s (one s you have not lis tened to ). If ther e are no new me ssages , the TAD wai ts fo r about five rin gs be fore it an swe rs.
29 The T AD an nounce s “Y ou have xx new me ssage( s)” (w here x x is the numbers of mes sages) o r “Y ou have no mess ages”, then t he T AD plays back the r ecorded m essag es cont in- uously . Wh en you h ave b oth ol d and new mess ages, the T AD first play s back on ly new m essa ges.
30 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do not ex pect you to have any pr oblems wi th your phone , but if yo u do, the fo llow- ing sugg estio ns mig ht hel p. Problem Sugges tion The phon e does not wor k or works poo rly . Check all phone line connec tions. Make su re th e AC adapter an d b atte ry p ac k are properl y connected.
31 If you still have problems , discon nect the ph one. If other pho nes on the same line work proper ly, the fa ult is in th is phone or i ts installa tion. If you cannot find the prob- lem, ta ke your TAD-7 27 to your local RadioS hack st ore for a ssista nce.

33 REPLACING THE BATTERY PACK If you foll ow the in structi ons in “ Conne ct- ing and Charg ing the Batter y Pac k” on Page 12, the batt ery pack shou ld last about one ye ar.
