7 PREP ARA TION CONNECT ING POWER Using Stan d ard A C Power You can power your scanner from a standard A C outlet using t he sup- plied AC ad apte r. Wa rn in g : Do not use the AC ad apt- er’s polari zed plu g with a n ext ension cord receptacle unle ss the blades can be fully inserted to prevent blade expo sure.
8 Usin g V ehicle Ba ttery P ower To power your s canner from y our ve- hicle’s battery power, you need a DC power cord (such as Rad io Shack Cat. No. 270-1533). Cautio n s: • Y our v ehicle must ha ve a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical syste m.
9 CONNECT ING AN ANTENNA You can connec t either the s upplied telescopi ng antenna or an o ptional antenn a. T e lescoping Antenna To a ttach the t elescoping an tenn a, simply screw it into the hole on top of your scanner. The a ntenna’s l ength c ontrols its sensitivity .
10 For the best performan ce, con sider the foll o wing when deciding on an outdoor base antenna and its loca- tion: • The location of the externa l antenna shoul d be as high as possible. • The ex ternal a ntenna an d antenna cable shoul d be as far away as p ossible from s ources of electrical noise (appliances, other radios, and so o n).
11 IN ITIALI ZING T HE SCANNER If the scanner or its display do es not work p roperly even a fter resetting it, follo w t hes e st eps to ini tializ e t he scanne r. Caution: Initializing the sc anner clears all the chann els you stored in mem ory. Initialize the scanner only when you are sure it is not working properly.

14 Co ntr ol F unct ion L/O/SEARCH SKIP Turns the sel ected chan nel’s lockout f unction on and off, or sk ips a specified frequency during a limit or direct search. PRI/HYPER SEARCH Sets and turns on an d off the priority function for a particular channel, or selects the hype r search speed.
15 A LO OK A T THE DISPLA Y The display has several indicators that show the scanner’s current operating mode. Indica tor Function MON Appears when you listen to a m on itor mem ory. BANK Appears with numbers (1-10) to the right to show which chan nel-storage ban ks are t urned on for the s can mode.

17 UND ERST ANDING THE SCANNER ’S MEMOR Y You can store up to 110 frequencies into your s canner’s memory. You store each f requency into eit her a mem ory called a cha nnel, or a tem- porary mem ory called a m onitor. This scanne r has 1 00 chan nel memories and 10 m onitor memories.

27 LIST ENING TO THE WEA THER BAND The FCC (Federal Comm unications Comm ission) has al locat ed 11 chan- nels f or u se by the Nation al Oc eanic and A tmospheric Adm inis tration (NOAA). Your scanner is preprogram med with the foll owing freque ncies available to NOAA.
28 SPEC IAL FE A TURES DESIGNA TING A PRIORITY CH ANNEL By designat ing a priority chan nel, you can sc an through the pro- grammed channels and still not miss an important or interesting call on a specific chann el. Note: Yo u can select only one c h an- nel as t he priority channel.
29 LOCKI NG OUT CHANNELS You can set your sc anner to scan more ef ficiently by l ocking out c han- nel s y o u do no t wa nt to mo n it or . T hi s is handy for locking out channels wher e you sto red a fre quency w ith a continu ous trans mission, such as a weathe r channel.
