5 INSTALLATION SELECTING A LOCATION You can place the phone’s ba se on a desk top or ta ble, or mount it on a wall. Select a location that is: • near an accessib le A C outlet • near a telephon .
6 3. Route th e adapter and modula r cords through the g roo v es on the bottom of the base . 4. Plug the mod ular cord’ s other end into the wall plat e jac k, then align the base’ s ke yhole slots with the wall plate studs and slide the base downw ard to secure it.
7 CONNECTING AND CHAR GING THE BATTER Y PA C K The phone comes wit h a rechargeable nickel-cadmium ba ttery pack in the handset, b ut not conn ected. Before u s- ing your phone, you must connect the battery pack and t hen cha rge it f or about 24 hours.
8 • Using a pencil eraser , clean the charging contacts on the handset and the base about once a month. • If the T ALK/BA TT indicator does not light and the phone d oes not work, recharge th e batt er y pack. (The bat- ter y pow er might be t oo low to light the indicator .
9 SETTING THE RINGER’ S T ONE AND V OLUME You can set two ringer t ones and a high and low volume for each. To change the tone, lift th e handset and press VO L ▲ or ▼ .
10 OPERATION MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS To make a call, lift the han dset and press TA L K . The TALK/BATT indicator on the handset and the CHARGE/IN USE indicator on the base light. When you hear a dial tone, dial t he number. To answer a call, simply lift the hand set.
11 Notes: • The red ial memor y holds up to 32 digits, so yo u can redial long-dis- tance as well as lo cal numbers. • The redial memo r y also holds pause entr ies. See “Enter ing a P ause” on P age 13. USING MUTE To talk to someone in the room without the person on the other en d of the phone line hearin g your conversation, press MUT E .
12 To stop the beep ing sooner, press any key on the handset except TA L K . If you receive an incoming call, pressing TA L K will answer the call and simultaneously stop the beeping. MEMORY DIALING The phone can st ore up to 10 numb ers that you can dial by ent ering a memory location n umber ( 0 – 9 ).
13 T o delete a stored number , lift the handset an d press MEM twice, then enter the mem or y locat ion number ( 0 – 9 ) y ou w ant to clear . The ha ndset sounds a long beep to signal that the memor y location is c lear .
14 Notes: • Connecting a headset disco nnects the handset’ s earpiece and micro- phone . • ▲ or ▼ on the handset also contr ols the connec ted headse t’ s volume. •P r e s s i n g MUTE on the handset also silences the headset’ s microphone.
15 T ROUB LESHOOTING We do not expect you to have an y problems with your p hone, but if you do, the follo w- ing suggestions might he lp. Prob lem Suggestion The phone does not wor k or works poorly . Be sure the base’ s phone line cord and A C adapter are correctly and securely connected, and the batter y pack in the handset is charged.
16 If you still have problems, disconnect the phone. If other phones on the s ame line work properly, t he fault is in t his phone or its insta llation. If you cannot find the prob- lem, take your phone to your local Radi oSha ck store for assistance.

18 REPLACING THE BATTERY P AC K If you follow the instructions in “Connect- ing and Charging the Bat tery Pack” on Page 7, the battery pack should la st about one yea r. If the battery pack d oes not hold a char ge for more than 2 hours after an overnight ch arge, replace it with a new 3.
19 Also, the phone company can make changes to its lines, e quipment, opera - tions, or procedures t hat could af fect the operation of this telephon e. The tele- phone company notifies yo u of these changes in advance, so you ca n take the necessar y steps to prevent in terrup- tion of your telephon e ser vice.
