6 INSTALLA TION MOUNTING THE P H ONE You can pla ce the phon e on a desk or table, mount it on a standard wal l plate, or mount it direc tly on a wall.
7 3. Route the ada pter ’s cor d throu gh the stra in reli ef slot on the br acket. 4. Plug the ada pter in to a stan dard AC outlet. 5. Lift the base’s antenn a to a vertic al position .
8 Follow th e steps under “On a Wa ll Plate or Wall” on Pa ge 7, then apply these ad- ditional instruc tions fo r place ment on a wall. 1. Drill two hol es 3 15 / 16 inch es (100 mm) apart. Then th read a screw in to each hole, letting the heads e xtend about 5 / 16 i n c h ( 5 m m ) from the w all.
9 To char ge the batter y pack, pl ace the handset ei ther faceu p or facedown on the base. The CH ARGE/IN US E indica- tor on the ba se li ghts and Total:00 appears on the handse t disp la y. Recharge the batter y pack when Low Battery flashes o n the di spla y.

11 Follow the se steps to turn auto talk on or off. 1. Li ft the handset and h old d own CALL ID . A menu ap pears with 1 Auto Talk selecte d . 2. Press SELECT to c hange the auto talk sett ing. On or Off appea rs indi - cating th e select ed set ting.
12 3. Press SELECT , then e nter your three-digi t area code. If you make a mis tak e, r epeat edly press or to move the cursor over the incor - rect dig it, then e nter the co rrect number . Note: If a n area code i s alread y stored, i t appea rs on the disp lay af- ter you press and ho ld CALL ID .
13 OPERATION MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS To make a call, li ft the ha ndset and press TA L K (the CHAR GE/IN U SE indi - cator on the base l ights), then dial the number. Th e numbe r displ ays on the handset as y ou dial, then (aft er a few seco nds) the cal l’s elap sed ti me dis- plays.
14 USI NG REDIA L You ca n quickly dia l any of the las t three numbers you diale d recentl y. Lif t the handset an d repeatedl y press REDIAL/ P AUSE u ntil the n umber you wi sh to dial dis plays. Then pres s TA L K a nd the phone dia ls the num ber.
15 PAGING To send a p age fr om the bas e to the handset or to locate the ha ndset, when the phone is no t in use, press PA G E / FIND on the b ase. The han dset b eeps for 5 secon ds. To locate the handset us ing a continu - ous beep , press and hold P AGE/FIND longer t han 5 se conds.
16 Repeated ly press to view the charac ters in alphab etica l order. (The dis play s hows uppe rcase let - ters first, then l owercase lette rs, numbers , and spec ial charact ers.) Notes: • Press to see the characters in re- verse alphab etical ord er .
17 Edit Memory n — edit th e record as des cribed in Step s 5 through 8 of “Sto ring a Number and Name in Memory ” on Page 15. Delete Memory n — the dis play prom pts you to confi rm the delet ion. Press or to move t he curs or to Yes or No , then press SELECT or DELETE .
18 T esting Stored Emergency Num b ers If you s tore an emer gency s ervic e’s number (pol ice depar tment, fire depart- ment, ambu lanc e) and y ou choo se to test the st ored nu mber, make the test call dur ing the la te evening or ear ly morning hours to avoi d peak demand periods.
19 CALLER ID OPERAT ION If you s ubscri be to Call er ID se rvice from your ph one comp any, the pho ne compa - ny sends informa tion ab out the c all, as well as th e time and date , betwee n the first an d second rings of every call y ou rece ive.

21 If the sel ected location is e mpty, the phone beeps to confirm tha t it stored the number, th en the Ca ller ID rec ord ap- pears. If a reco rd exis ts in the selec ted lo ca- tion, Replace Memory? appear s, promptin g you to confirm the repla ce- ment.
22 T ROUBLESHOOTIN G We do not expect y ou to hav e any probl ems with your ET-1 109, but if you do , these sugge stions m ight he lp. Problem Suggestio n The phon e does not work or works p oorly . Be sur e the ba se’s phone l ine cor d and AC adapter a re corre ctly and securely connec ted.
23 If you s till have p roblems, d isconne ct the E T-1109. If other phones on the s ame line work proper ly, the fa ult is in th is phone or i ts installa tion. If you cannot find the prob- lem, take the ET -1109 to your l ocal Radi oShack store for assista nce.
