Even if you onl y in stall the suppli ed sensor s, take time to t hink about the best locatio n for the m.
9 ASSIGNING SECURITY CODES A securi ty zone is an are a of protecti on cove red by a single wi reless sensor transmitter , motion detector, or other sensing /transmitti ng device . Your se- curity con sole monit ors up to 16 zones and alerts you if there is a vi olation (see “Zone Indicators ” on Pag e 27).

12 2. Press ARM on the remote control. The indica tor on the rem ote con- trol blinks. 3. Set t he cons ole’ s INST ALL/RUN 1/ RUN 2 swi t c h t o INST ALL . 4. Sta nd near the console and pres s ARM again. T he indicat or blinks again, and the c onsole chi mes and logs in the re mote contr ol.

15 4. Press TEST on the back of the motion det ector . The co nsole c himes, and th e first av a ilab le zone indicator lights to show the c onsole has logged in the motion detector . If you do not hear a chime, pres s CODE with a penc il, then pres s TEST again.
16 T ESTING THE SYSTEM Afte r you have comple ted al l of the quick ins tallation procedu res, foll ow these ste ps to test the system. Note: To avoid unne cessar ily alarmi ng your ne ighbo rs, t ell th em y ou are te st - ing t he syste m. 1. Se t the INST ALL/R UN 1/RUN 2 s witch on the consol e to RUN 2 .
17 MO UNTI NG A CCES SORI ES MOUNTING THE WIRELESS SENSOR T RAN SMITTER S You ca n install an y combin ation of wire less se nsor trans mitters (Cat. No. 49-2585) and motion dete ctors (Cat. No. 49-258 9), in up to 16 zones . Follow th ese steps to moun t each wire- less s ensor tran smitte r.
18 Notes: • If you mount magnetic s witc hes on metal doo rs or frames, ensure th at they are no more than 3 / 16 of an in ch ap ar t. O n wooden su rf aces, they can be up to 3 / 8 of an inch a par t. • Do not m ount the mag net directl y onto a metal surface .
19 The sup plied motion detector can “see” up to a di sta nc e o f ab out 40 f eet with a 90 deg ree fiel d of view. It can be placed up to abou t 100 feet away from the co nsole. You can place the motio n detecto r on a counter to p or us e the includ ed mounting bracke t.
20 Looking a t the back of the motio n de- tector, se t the switch on the le ft side to 1 (mos t sens itive ) or 2 (less s en si tiv e) . When set to 1 , the motion detec tor trips the a lar m if any movement is detect ed.
21 3. Rel ease TEST and wait about 20 seco nds. 4. Walk past the motion de tector . The indica tor lights as you mov e and tur ns off if you keep v er y still or walk out of range of the detec- tor . Notes: • If the range is l ow (less than 30 f eet), che c k that the detector i s hor izontal and at a heig ht of at least 5 feet from th e ground.
22 SETTING UP THE TELEPHONE DIALER The tele phone d ialer dials a friend o r neighbor (for exam ple) and plays a message in the fol lowing s ituations : • when you press P ANIC on the hand-hel d rem.
23 • Y ou sho uld not program the con- sole to dial the pol ice dir ectly , unless y our local po lice dep ar t- ment h as a spec ial li ne for emer- gency di alers.
24 RECOR DING A V OICE MESSAGE Follow these steps to record your voice message . For example, There is a possible bu rglary in progres s at (ad- dress).
25 6. If y ou want to hear th e message again, set INST ALL/RUN 1/R UN 2 on the cons ole to INST ALL and then back to RUN 1 or R UN 2 . Repeat Steps 1–6 to chan ge the mes - sage. T EST ING THE DIA LER 1. Set I NST ALL/RUN 1 /RUN 2 on the console to RUN 1.
26 OPERA TION ARMING/DISARMING THE SYSTEM You can arm the sys tem three way s: •S e t INST ALL/RUN 1/R UN 2 on the console to RUN 1 or R UN 2 and press ARM on the c onsole. •S e t I NST ALL/RUN 1 /RUN 2 on the console to RUN 1 or R UN 2 and press ARM A W A Y or ARM HOME on the h andheld r emote c ontrol.
27 Notes: • The supp lied motion detector (Cat. No . 49 -2589) on ly operate s in the INST ANT m ode. If you w ant to us e the e xit/entr y dela y f eat ure, you can use another mot ion detector (Ca t. No . 61-2614) instead of the one sup- plied with this sys tem.
28 Reading the Status of Zones 1–8 • Stead y On — do or or window is open. • Stead y Off — door or window is closed. • Slow Flashing — w irele ss sens or transmitter is repor ti ng a problem (such as a low batter y).
29 Other Console Indicators • BATTERY LOW ( Steady) — bat- ter y in consol e is low or need s replaceme nt. • ARMED (Steady) — in dica tes system is ar med.
30 Using SECURITY LIGHT Use the SECURITY LIGHT button on the handheld r emote control to turn on/off a light module s et to the s ame hous e and unit c ode as the c onsole. Using BRIGHT/DIM Use the BRIGHT/DIM button on the handheld r emote co ntrol to b righten or dim light s connected to Pl ug ’n Power modules .
31 TR OUBLESHOO TING If you exper ience probl ems with yo ur security c onsole or acc essorie s, try correc ting the probl em as suggest ed in this sec tion. If you cannot corr ect the probl em, contact your l ocal R adioSha ck stor e for assi stanc e.
32 The al arm trips wh en you enter the hous e before you have tim e to disarm it. Arm the system in the delay mode. Se t the DELA Y swit ch on the e ntry door s ensor to MAX . Set the EN- TR Y swi tch on th e handh eld remote control to DE- LA Y , and then press ARM HOME or ARM A W A Y on the handh eld remo te contro l.
33 You do not he ar a chime from the consol e when you press AR M to install a re- mote. Check i f you can a rm the sy stem when INST ALL/ RUN 1/R UN 2 on the console i s set to RUN 1 or RUN 2 . If you can, the remote co ntrol is alread y insta lled and no fu rther acti on is neces sary.
34 The red l ight on th e hand- held remo te control st ays on during ins tal lat ion . Press the button locate d beneath the la bel with a pencil and then press ARM . If it still stays on, re- move th e battery, wait a few second s, then rep lace the batter y.
35 The consol e appears to be “locked-up .” If REC/BUSY is on, y ou might have j ust switched the console fr om INST A LL to RU N 1 or RU N 2 . The co n- sole the n plays b ack the 15 seco nds of pr e-record - ed mess age. If you do not have the e arphone connec ted, you m ight thin k that the consol e is locke d-up.

37 REPLACING THE CONSOLE’ S BATTER Y The consol e’s backup bat tery allows the system to wo rk during a p ower out- age. A 9-v olt alkaline battery provides at least 12 hours of bac kup. BATT ERY LOW li ghts on the console when you need to repl ace the backup ba ttery, but you shoul d repl ac e the batt er y at least once a y ear.
38 REPLACING A WIRELESS T RANSMITTER’ S SENSOR BATTERIES If any o f the console’s z one indicat ors flash s lowly, th e wirele ss sensor trans- mitter or mo tion detector for that zone has not repo rted in during the last 4 hours. Thi s is most likel y caused by a dead batter y in the wireless s ensor transmitter or motion detector.
39 FCC CAUTIONS This eq uipment ge nerates and u ses radio frequen cy energy , and if not in- stalled and use d properly , that is, in strict ac co rd anc e with the ma nufa ct ur - er’s instr uctions , may cause inte rfer- ence to radio a nd televisio n reception.
