Installing Your Telephone 7 To put the phone on a slant, inser t the clips into the middle clip slots. Then, tilt the brac ket down so the tabs click into the upper tab slots . 2. Plug one end of the supplied long modular cord into the TEL LINE jack on the bac k of the base.
Installing Your Telephone 8 On a Wall Plate 1. Inser t the brack et's tabs into the base's lower tab slots. Then, press down on the br ack et's clips and inser t them into the clip slots. 2. Plug one end of the supplied shor t modular cord into the TEL LINE jack on the bac k of the base.
Installing Your Telephone 9 On a Wall You need two screws (not supplied) with heads that fit into the keyhole slots on the bottom of the base. 1. Drill two holes 3 15 / 16 inches (100 mm) apar t. Then thread a screw into each hole , letting the heads e xtend about 1 / 8 inch (3 mm) from the wall.
Installing Your Telephone 10 1. Press down and slide off the batter y compar tment cov er. 2. Plug the batter y pack’ s connector into the sock et in the compar tment (the connector fits only one wa y). Then place the batter y pack in the compar tment.
Installing Your Telephone 11 S ETTING THE D IALING M ODE Your phone is set for tone dialing. If you have pulse service, change the dialing mode. If you are not sure which type of service you have, do this test: 1. Lift the handset and press T ALK/FLASH .

Voice Mail Waiting Indicator 18 VOICE MAIL WAITING INDICATOR If you subscribe to the voice mail service from your phone company, the VOICE MAIL indicator on the handset flashes when you receive a new voice message. Call the access number to retrieve your voice mail.
Memory Dialing 19 You can also store one number in a separate one- touch speed dial memory. Each memory number can be up to 20 digits, and each name can be up to 16 characters. S TORING /E DITING D ATA IN THE P HONEBOOK 1. Lift the handset and press ê ê ê ê /SPEED DIAL/ % .

Memory Dialing 21 Entering a Pause Some telephone systems require you to dial an access code ( 9 , for example) and wait for a second dial tone before you can dial an outside number. You can store the access code in memory with the phone number. However, you should also store a pause after the access code to allow the outside line time to connect.
Memory Dialing 22 S TORING A O NE -T OUCH S PEED D IAL N UMBER You can store one number you dial often in the one- touch speed dial memory. The one touch dial allows you to dial a number with one key press. Ô 1. Lift the handset and press ê ê ê ê /SPEED DIAL/ % .
Turning the Distinctive Ringer On/Off 23 1. Dial the ser vice’ s main number first, either manually , from memor y , or from the Caller ID memory. 2. Then, when you are prompted to enter the number , press ê ê ê ê /SPEED DIAL/ % , use # or $ to scroll through the memor y until you reach the ne xt group of numbers , and press SEL/CH .

Using Caller ID 28 C ALLER ID M ESSAGES A DDING /D ELETING THE A REA C ODE When the area code of the received call is the same as the one you stored (see “Storing your Area Code” on Page 13), the area code does not appear in the Caller ID record. If it is different, the area code appears in the record.

All other menu settings (ringer volume and tone, distinctive ring, and display language) and memories (phonebook and one-touch speed dial) are independent and can be set as you like.
Care 32 T RANSFERRING A C ALL You can transfer an outside call from one handset to another. 1. Press DEL/TRSF at the originating handset during a call. The call is automatically put on hold and the transf er tone sounds. 2. Press T ALK/FLASH on the receiving handset.
