11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Alwa ys wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating your tractor or per for m ing any adjustments or repairs.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope. • Choose the slowest speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • Av oid stopping or changing speed on hills.
13 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 5) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mo ve fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.

15 MULCHING MO WING TIPS IMPORT ANT : FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP MO WER HOUSING FREE OF BUIL T -UP GRASS AND TRASH. CLEAN AFTER EA CH USE. • The spe cial mulch ing blade will recut the gr ass clip- pings many times and reduce them in size so that as they f all onto the lawn they will disperse into the g rass and not be noticed.

17 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 12) • Raise mower to highest position to allow access to bla d e s. • Remov e blade bolt, lock washer and fl at was he r se cur ing bla d e. • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as sho wn.
18 CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from o verheating. Clean with a wire br ush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubbor n dried gum fi bers. MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary .
19 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.
20 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS W ARNING: T O A V OID SERIOUS INJUR Y , BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SER VICE OR AD JUST - MENTS • Depress clutc h/brake pedal fully and set parking brake. • Place motion control le ver in neutral (N) position. • Place attachment c lutch in “DISENGA GED” position.

25 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS HOOD T O REMO VE HOOD AND GRILL ASSEMBL Y (See Fig. 31) • Raise hood. • Unsnap headlight wire connector . • Stand in front of tractor . Grasp hood at sides , tilt toward engine and lift off of tractor . • T o replace, re v erse abov e procedure.
26 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for stor age at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 da ys or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
27 PROBLEM CA USE CORRECTION TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. W ait sev eral minutes bef ore attempting to star t.
