2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and follow all instr uctions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in struc tions, to operate the machine . • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , toys , wire, etc.

6 HO W T O SET UP Y OUR TRA CT OR CHECK B A TTER Y (See Fig. 2) • Lift hood to raised position. • If this batter y is put into service after month and year indicated on label (label located between terminals) charge batter y f or minimum of one hour at 6-10 amps.

9 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were ov er infl ated at the factory f or shipping pur poses. Correct tire pressure is impor tant f or best cutting performance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown in “PRODUCT SPEC I FI CA TIONS” section of this manual.

13 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 10) Y our tractor is equipped with an oper ator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt b y the operator to leav e the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine.
14 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 7) When star ting the engine f or the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the tr ansmission en gaged position.
15 OPERA TION FIG. 12 00272 PURGE TRANSMISSION CA UTION: Never engage or disengage freewheel le ver while the engine is run- ning. T o ensure proper operation and perf or mance, it is rec om - mend ed that the transmission be purged bef ore operating tractor f or the fi rst time.

17 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys obser v e safety rules when perf or ming any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then brak e must be adjusted. (See “TO ADJUST BRAKE” in the Ser vice and Ad just ments section of this manual).
18 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from ov erheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubbor n dried gum fi bers. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whichev er occurs fi rst.
