2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and follow all instr uctions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in struc tions, to operate the machine. • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , toys , wire, etc.

11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thrown into the e yes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Alwa ys wear safety glass es or eye shields while op- erating your tractor or per fo rm ing any adjustments or repairs.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope . • Choose the slo west speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills .
13 ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not overfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e lif e).

16 MAINTENANCE 01202 0 1 2 1 4 BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 13) • Raise mower to highest position to allow access to bla de s. • Remov e blade bolt, loc k washer and fl at washer se- cur ing blade. • Install new or reshar pened b lade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as shown.
17 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts f or deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whichev er occurs fi rst.

Make sure tires are properly infl ated (See “PROD UCT SPECIFICA TIONS” section of this manual). If tires are ov er or underinfl ated, you will not properly adjust you r m owe r .

21 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TRANSAXLE MO TION CONTR OL LE VER NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT (See Fig. 26) The motion control le ver has been pre set at the factory and adjustment should not be necessar y . • Loosen adjustment bolt in front of the right rear wheel, and lightly tighten.

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS FIG. 30 T O REMO VE HOOD AND GRILL ASSEMBL Y (See Fig. 31) • Raise hood. • Unsnap headlight wire connector . • Stand in front of tractor . Grasp hood at sides, tilt tow ard engine and lift off of tractor . • T o replace, re verse abo ve procedure .
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” proper ly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se veral min utes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spar k plug.
