ABOUT THIS GUIDE Thank you for purchasing t he FSD-504PE, 5-Port 10/100Mbp s Fast Ethernet Switch with 802.3af splitter built-in. This device integrates 100M bps Fa st Ethernet and 10Mbp s Ethernet network capabilities in a highly flexible de skto p p ackage and also offers d ual power system , DC power and IEEE802.
Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION This chapter describes the features of the Swit ch a nd some background information about Fast Ethernet switching technol ogy . Chapter 4 CONNECTING THE SWITCH This chapter describe s how to connect t he Switch to your Fast Ethernet netwo rk. PC to Switch A PC can be connected to the Switch via a two-pair Categ ory 3, 4, 5 UTP/ STP straight cable. The PC (equipped with a RJ-45 10/100Mb ps phone jack) sho uld be connected to any of the 5 numbered port.
Powered from POE hub / switch Port#1 of the Switch support IEEE802.3af power ov er Ethernet, you can direct connect the Switch to the 802.3af in-line power devices li ke 802.3af POE hub, Ethernet Switch es that with 802.3af POE Ethernet port. A Category 5 UTP cable with 4-pair wire is re quired from POE hub to your FSD-504PE.

APPENDIX A RJ-45 PIN SPECIFICATION When connecting your FS D-series 10/100Mbp s Et hernet Switch to another swi tch, a bridge or a hub, a straight or cro ssover cable is necessary . Each port of the Switch support s auto-MDI/MDI-X detection. That means you can di rectly connect t he S witch to any Ethernet devices without makin g a crossover cable.
There are 8 wires on a st andard UTP/STP cable and each wire is color-coded. The following shows the pin allocation an d colo r of stra ight cable and crossover cable connection: Figure A-1: S traight.
APPENDIX B SWITCH OPERATION Address Table The Switch is implemented with an address table. This address table compo sed of many entries. Each entry is used to store the address info rmation of some node in network, including MAC address, port no, etc.
Due to the learning function of the Ethernet switch, the source addre ss and corresp onding port number of each incomi ng and outgoing p acket are st ored in a routing table. This informatio n is subsequently used to filter p ackets who se dest ination addres s is on the same segment as the source address.
