In this user manual you will nd all the information you need to install, use, clean and descale your appliance .
4 ENGLISH Important Read this user manual carefully befor e using the appliance and save it f or future ref erence . Never allow water to c ome into contact with any of the electrical parts of the machine: Danger of short circuit! Hot water may cause burning! Never not direct the hot water jet towards body parts.
ENGLISH 5 reachable socket; • Provide for a minimum distance fr om the sides of the machine as shown in the illustration ; • While switching on or o the machine, we suggest placing an empty glass under the dispensing spout. Do not keep the machine at temperatures below 0°C.
6 ENGLISH First U se Packaging The original packaging has been designed and constructed to protect the machine during transport. W e recommend keeping the packaging material for possible future transport. Preliminary Operations Remove the drip tray with g rill and the co ee machine from the packaging.
ENGLISH 7 5 Make sure the dispensing spout is in correct position. Move it horizon- tally until you hear the CLICK indicating the correct position. If this is not done, some pr oduct might leak out of the dispensing spout. 1 2 11 Switch the pow er button to "I" to turn on the machine .
8 ENGLISH Double Function Buttons Some buttons in the control panel hav e a double function. The double function is only activated in cer tain moments during the ma- chine operation or when accessing the programming mode . The additional function is indicated by the icon under the machine button.
ENGLISH 9 Setting the Language (Upon First Use) At rst start up, the machine requires y ou to select and store the desired language for the display ed messages. This allows you to adjust the pa- rameters of the beverages to the typical parameters of the country where the machine is used.
10 ENGLISH Rinse/Self- Cleaning C ycle This cycle allows you to rinse the int ernal co ee circuits with fresh water . The cycle is carried out: • At machine star t-up (with cold boiler) • After.
ENGLISH 11 MENU OK OK ESC 4 Press the " " button t o select co ee. Note: Do not add pre- ground co ee into the compar tment. 8 Press the " " and the " " buttons, select and start dispensing HOT W A TER. 9 When the hot water dispensing procedur e is complete, empty the container .
12 ENGLISH Measuring and Adjusting W ater Hardness Measuring water hardness is very impor tant in order to corr ec tly manage the " INTENZA+" lter and the frequency with which the machine must be descaled. 1 Immerse the water hardness test strip - provided with the machine - in water for 1 second .
ENGLISH 13 7 Press the " " button t o enter the "HARDNESS" menu. Note: The machine is supplied with a standard adjustment suitable for most of the uses. 8 Press: The " " button to increase the value or the " " button to reduce the value .
14 ENGLISH "INTENZA+" W ater Filter The “INTENZA+” water lter can improve the quality of water . Using the “INTENZA+” lter will prevent limescale from building up and will ensure a much more intense aroma t o your espresso co ee.
ENGLISH 15 6 Place a large container under the hot water wand . 7 Hold the " " button pressed for 5 seconds t o access the prog ram- ming mode. 8 T o selec t the "MACHINE MENU" option, pr ess the " " button. P ress the " " button for acc ess.
16 ENGLISH Adjustments The machine that you hav e bought allows for c er tain adjustments that will permit you to use it to its full potential . Adjusting the C o ee Grinder W arning! The grind adjustment lever must only be turned when the co ee grinder is working.
ENGLISH 17 Adjusting the C o ee Length The machine allows y ou to adjust the amount of brewed c o ee according to your taste and/or the size of y our cups. Note: This function cannot be used to adjust American co ee length, this prod- uct requires using the speci c menu in the "BEVERAGE MENU" .
18 ENGLISH Adjusting the Cappuc cino or Latte Macchiato Length The machine allows y ou to adjust the brewed amount of C appuccino (or Latte Macchiato) accor ding to your taste and/or the size of your cups. Each time the “ ” or “ ” button is pressed and released, the machine brews a pre-set amount of Cappuccino (or Latte macchiato ).
ENGLISH 19 Eco-friendly: Stand-by The machine is designed for ener gy saving. The machine automatically turns o after 30 minutes of inactivity. Note: - During the turning o phase, the machine performs a rinse c ycle, if a cof- fee product has been brewed .
20 ENGLISH The recommended positions ar e: F or the use of small cups; F or the use of large cups. T wo cups can be plac ed under the dispensing spout to brew t wo cups of co ee at the same time. If you want to use tall glasses or mugs, push the dispensing spout to its limit stop .
ENGLISH 21 Using C o ee Beans T o brew co ee, press and release: 1 The " " button for a cup of espr esso; or the " " button for a cup of long espresso . The brewing cycle then starts: T o brew 1 cup of co ee, press the desired butt on once.
22 ENGLISH T o brew co ee: 1 Press and r elease the “ ” button to select and ac tivate the pre- ground co ee func tion. MENU OK MENU OK ESC This page indicates that the function has been activated. Note: If the brewing is not started within 10 seconds, the machine goes back to the co ee beans operating mode and displays the symbol.
ENGLISH 23 Brewing Cappuc cino The machine allows br ewing cappuccino quickly and easily with the touch of a button. Danger of burning! Dispensing may be preceded b y small jets of hot water . Important Note: Immediately af ter using the Cappuccinatore to fr oth milk, clean the suction hose externally with a damp cloth.
24 ENGLISH 5 The machine needs a preheating time. 6 After preheating, the machine starts brewing the cappuccino . 7 At this stage, the machine dispenses fr othed milk. Y ou can stop dis- pensing by pressing the “ ” button . 8 After dispensing milk, the machine brews co ee.
ENGLISH 25 Milk Handling With this machine you can pr epare cappuccino, latte macchiat o and other milk-based beverage quickly and enjoy your relax time . Y ou can use either the supplied Thermos or dir ec tly the milk container which can be purchase ad your local dealer's shop .
26 ENGLISH 1 Loosen and remo ve the Thermos lid. 2 Pour milk int o the Thermos. Fill in with milk fr om the MIN level indica- tor and do not exceed the M AX level indicator . 3 Reinsert the Thermos lid b y screwing it. 4 Use only the supplied hose to connect the Thermos to the Cappuccina- tore.
ENGLISH 27 6 Inser t the hose tting in the Thermos. 7 Inser t the tting in the Cappuccinatore. The Thermos can now be used to brew milk-based pr oduc ts. Milk Container The milk container can be used directly with the machine to prepar e the beverages.
28 ENGLISH "SPECIAL " Products The machine is designed to brew other pr oduc ts not displayed on the control panel. Note: After pressing the “ ” button , if no product is selected, the machine goes back to the main menu after 10 seconds.
ENGLISH 29 Long C o ee This programme allo ws you to pr epare a long co ee. Note: In this case, y ou can just prepare one co ee at a time. 1 Press the “ ” button to enter the menu. 2 Press the " " button t o select "LONG C OFFEE" .
30 ENGLISH 4 Press the “ ” button to enter the menu. 5 Press the " " button t o select "HOT MILK" . 6 Place a suitable cup under the dispensing spout. 7 Con rm by pressing the “ ” button to start the preparation. Note: Y ou can stop dispensing by pressing the “ ” button.
ENGLISH 31 Beverage P rogramming All beverage settings can be customized . 1 Press and hold the “ ” button for 5 seconds t o access the machine main menu.
32 ENGLISH PREBREWING Prebr ewing: Co ee is slightly dampened before brewing so as to bring out its full aroma and let it acquire an ex cellent taste. OFF: prebr ewing is not performed. L OW: activated. HIGH: longer in order to bring out the co ee taste.
ENGLISH 33 DEF AUL T Default Par ameters F or each beverage it is possible to reset the orig inal standard values as- signed by the manufacturer . After selecting this function, the beverage customized settings are deleted .
34 ENGLISH GENERAL MENU TONE CUPW ARM. SURF ACE OFF OFF ON ON T o change the machine operating settings. This function activates/deactivates the acoustic alarms. This function allows activating/deactivating the cup -warm- ing sur face located on the upper part of the machine.
ENGLISH 35 DISPLA Y MENU LANGU AGE CONTRAST BRIGHTNESS ENGLISH This menu allows y ou to set the menu language and the display brightness and contrast. This setting is of fundamental importance for correctly adjusting the parameters of the machine according t o the country where the machine is used.
36 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE DESCALING CAPPUCCINA TORE CLEAN BREW GROUP CLEAN F AC T ORY SET TINGS This menu allows setting all the functions for corr ec t machine mainte- nance This function allows you to perform the descaling cycle (see page 51).
ENGLISH 37 Cleaning and Maintenance As some of the parts of your appliance come in contact with water and cof- fee during normal use, it is important that you clean your appliance r egu- larly . This is an easy pr ocedure with y our Philips-Saeco Espresso machine.
38 ENGLISH 4 If you use the pre- ground co ee compar tment, clean it every week with the supplied brush. Cleaning the Cappuccina tore (A f ter Each Use) The Cappuccinator e must be washed and cleaned ever y time it is used. The lack of cleaning befor e and after each use can a ec t the correct opera- tion of the machine.
ENGLISH 39 6 The machine warms the system up . Once the warm-up is complete, the machine performs an assisted wash cycle for the Cappuccinator e. Wait until the cycle is complete . CAPPUCCINA TORE CLEAN PLEASE WAIT … 7 Only once the cycle is complete press the side buttons and r emove the Cappuccinatore .
40 ENGLISH 11 Rotate and lift the Cappuccinatore c over and remo ve it from the Cap- puccinatore body . 12 Remove the valve fr om the Cappuccinatore. 13 Remove the suction tube joint from the Cappuccinat ore. 14 W ash the parts under running water . Make sure any possible milk deposits/residues ar e removed.
ENGLISH 41 2 Remove the steel tube installed inside the Thermos lid. Wash it under lukewarm running water . Day Cleaning - Thermos The Thermos has to be cleaned every day to ensure proper operation. Note: T o clean the Thermos, the Cappuccinatore has to be installed .
42 ENGLISH 6 Connect the Thermos to the Cappuccinatore . 7 Place a container under the dispensing spout. 8 With the machine on, press the " " button. 9 Press the “ ” button to start the cleaning c ycle for the C appuccinato- re. Note: T o exit the cycle at any moment, press the “ ” button.
ENGLISH 43 Monthly Cleaning - Cappuccina tore + T hermos ( Thorough Cleaning) Clean all the Cappuccinatore and Thermos par ts thoroughly every month using the Saeco detergent supplied with the machine . The Saeco deter- gent may be purchased at your local dealer , at the Philips on-line shop at http://shop.
44 ENGLISH 10 Inser t the clean hose (according t o your choice) - in the Thermos or - directly in the container . 11 Press the " " button to con rm. Drinking the solution dispensed during this procedure is strictly forbidden. The solution must be disposed of .
ENGLISH 45 14 Fill the wat er tank and press the “ ” button to con rm. 15 Carefully wash: - the Thermos or - the container used for the solution and ll it with 1/2 (a half ) litre of fresh drinking water that will be used for rinsing . Empty the container placed under the dispensing spout.
46 ENGLISH Brew Group W eek ly Cleaning - Brew Group The brew group should be cleaned every time the co ee bean hopper is lled or at least once a week. 1 T urn o the machine by pressing the po wer button and remo ve the plug from the socket.
ENGLISH 47 7 Make sure the Brew Group is in the r est position; the t wo ref erence signs must match. If they do no match, proceed as described in step (8). 10 Inser t the Brew Group in its seat again until it locks into plac e WITHOUT pressing the "PRESS" button.
48 ENGLISH Brew Group Cleaning with " Co ee Clean T ablets" Besides weekly cleaning, we rec ommend running the cleaning c ycle with "Co ee Clean T ablets" after approximately 500 cups of c o ee or once a month. This operation completes the maintenance process of the br ew group .
ENGLISH 49 8 Place a container under the dispensing spout and press the “ ” but- ton to con rm. 9 The machine completes the cycle automatically . Note: Once the cycle is complete, the machine goes back to its normal oper at- ing mode. Brew Group L ubrication Lubricate the Br ew Group after appro ximately 500 cups of co ee or once a month.
50 ENGLISH 1 Lubricate the br ew group guides using the Saeco g rease only . Apply the grease evenly on both side guides . 2 Lubricate also the shaft. 3 Inser t the Brew Group in its seat again until it locks into plac e WITHOUT pressing the "PRESS" button.
ENGLISH 51 Descaling Limescale is a natural part of the water used for the machine operation. It needs to be remov ed regularly as it may clog the water and c o ee circuit of your appliance. This is an easy procedur e with your Philips-Saeco machine .
52 ENGLISH 7 Pour the entir e content of the Saeco concentrated descaling solution into the water tank and then ll the tank with fresh drinking water up to the level indicated by the icon. Place the tank back in the machine. Press the " " button.
ENGLISH 53 10 Place a container under the hot water wand and a large enough c on- tainer under the Cappuccinatore . Press the " " button. Note: Use a container of at least 1.
54 ENGLISH 18 The machine performs the rinse cycle. Note: A default amount of water is needed for the rinse phase . This allows performing an ideal rinse c ycle to ensure the best conditions to br ew products. The message about lling the tank for the rinse cycle is normal, as it is part of the procedure .
ENGLISH 55 Help Message Displayed How to Reset the Message CLOSE SIDE DOOR T o restore the machine operation, close the service door . INSERT DRIP TRA Y Inser t the drip tray .
56 ENGLISH Help Message Displayed How to Reset the Message The machine requests a descaling cycle. When this message is displayed, it is still possible t o use the ma- chine, but its correct operation might be a ected. Damages caused by failure to descale the machine ar e not cov- ered by warranty .
ENGLISH 57 Machine actions Causes Solutions The machine does not switch on. The machine is not plugged and/or the power button is positioned on “0” . Plug the machine and/or switch the power button to “I” . Co ee is not hot enough. The cups are cold.
Disposal - The packing materials can be recycled. - Appliance: Unplug the appliance and cut the power c ord. - Deliver the appliance and pow er cord to a service center or public waste disposal facility . This product complies with eu directive 2002/96/ec.
