Overview The Master Vie w CS-128A KVM Switch is a control unit that allows access to multiple computers from a single console (keyboard, monitor, and mouse). Before the develop ment of the Master View, the only way to control multiple compute r configurations from a single co nsole was through a complex and costly network system.

Introductio n Front View 1. Port LE Ds On Line: Lights ORANGE to indicate that the computer attached to the corresponding port is up and running. If the LED is flashing, it indicates that th e Port is being used for Casc ading to a nother Master Vi ew switch .
Rear View: 1. Power Jac k The unit is desig ned to be n on-powered (no e xternal powe r required). It gets its power from the computers it con nects to. Generally spe aking, the only time that external power is require d is when you daisy chain it, or if opera- tion become s erratic because the unit isn’t obtaining enough power from the computer.
Install ation Before you Begin 1. Make su re that power to all the devices you will b e connecting up have b een turned off. You must unplug the powe r cords of any compute rs that have the Keyboard Pow er On function. Otherwise, the switc h will receive power from the com puter.
4. Turn on the power to the compute rs. Note: If you choose t o use externa l power, the CS-128A must be plu gged in and receiv ing power before turning on the power to the c omputers. Two Stage Ins tallation To control eve n more computers, up to eight ad ditional CS-128A units ca n be cascaded from the CP U port s of t he Firs t Stag e unit.
Three Stage Ins tallat ion The procedure s for setting up a three stage inst allation are e ssentially the same as fo r a two stag e instal lation. With a three sta ge setup, as ma ny as 512 computers can be controlled in a comple te installation.
4. Repe at steps 1 - 3 for any other Third Stage units you wish to connec t. 5. For each T hird Sta ge unit , plug th e power adapt er cable in to the Maste r View’s Power J ack; plug t he power adapt er into an AC sou rce. 6. Pl ug in the pow er adapte rs for all the Sec ond Stage M aster Vie w units.
Operation Hot Plugging The Master Vie w CS-128A supports ho t plugging - components can be removed an d added back into the insta llation by unplugging their cables from the CPU ports without the need to shut the unit down.
Powering Of f and Restar ting If it becomes nec essary to Power Off one of th e Master View units, before starting it back up you must do the following: 1.
Port Selection The Master Vie w CS-128A provides thre e methods to obtain insta nt access to any computer in your installation : Manual; Hotkey ; and OSD (On Screen Display). w Manual Simply press the appropriate Port Selec tion Switch on the Master View’s front panel.
Port ID Numbering ID Numbering Overview Each CPU Port o n a Master View insta llation is assigned a unique Port ID. You can direc tly acces s any comput er on any leve l of the inst allati on by spe cifying the Port ID of the C PU Port that the computer is conne cted to - either with the Hotkey port selection method, or from the OSD.
Port Key In Examp les 1. To ac cess a computer attached to Port 3 of a Single Stage installation, key in 3 for the Port ID, as follows: [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Shift] 3 [Enter] 2.
OSD Operation OSD Overview OSD (On Screen Display), provide s a menu driven in terface to handle the compute r switching procedure . Although Hotkey switching still works, using OSD is a grea t deal m.
OSD Men u Navigation w [Esc] can cels the current selec tion, or dismisses the c urrent menu and moves back to the menu one leve l above. If you are at the highest menu level, it dea ctivat es OSD. w Use the Up a nd Down Arrow Keys or clic k on the Up and Down Triangle symbols ( st ) to m ove up or down through the list one line at a time.

Move the Highlight Ba r to the choice you wa nt, then press [Enter]. An icon appears before the choice to indica te that it is the currently selected one. Note: 1. Yo u can ac cess any port on a ny list by usin g the Navig ation Keys then pressing [Enter].
w F6 Set: Pressing [F6] brings up th e OSD configuration m enu. To chang e a setting : 1. Move the highlight bar to the choice you want, then press [Enter]. 2. On the submenu that appears next, move the highlight bar to the choice you want a nd press [Enter].
