23 1 Getting Started Instal ling the SD Memory Card You can us e an SD Memory C ard with this cam era. Images are recorded on the SD M emory Card or in th e built-in m emory of the c amera. When shooti ng with an SD Me mory Card instal led ? appears in the upper right corner of the displ ay and the i mages are recorded on the ca rd.
24 Getting Started 1 Data Backup Very occasio nally, data stor ed in the built-in memory becomes unreadable . As a backup meas ure, we recommend th at you transfer imp ortant data to a PC or store the data in a med ium other than the bu ilt-in memory.

34 Quick Start 2 Focus lock When you have di fficulty in a uto focusin g on a subjec t, try the procedure s below. 1 Find an a lternate subject t hat is at the sa me distan ce from the c amera as the desi red su bject. 2 Focus on the alternat e subject.

55 4 Taking Picture s Taking P ictures Taking Pictures In the “C apture mode”, you can take pictures. I n the “Playbac k mode”, you can play back or d elete picture s. To switch from the “Captu re mode” to the “ Playback mode ” Press t he Q butto n.
56 Taking Picture s 4 Histogr am Display The br ightness di stribution of the image is display ed. The horizon tal axis shows the brightnes s (darkest a t the left e nd and brightes t at the right end) a nd the vert ical axis shows the number o f pixels.
57 Taking Picture s 4 A histogram is a graph showin g the brightness of an image on the horizontal axis and the number of pixels on the vertical axis (distribution ch ar t of the brightness). The histogram wi ll help you detect the brightness o f the image you have taken.
58 Taking Picture s 4 “Camera shake” oc curs w hen you ji ggle yo ur ha nds while taking pi ctures. “Blurring ” is likely to occur when you take pi ctures of moving subject. This camera fe atures imag e compen sation systems an d function s that wor k for both “came ra shake” and “blurring” .

When y ou point the c amera at yo ur subject’s face, the camera a utomatical ly recogniz es it, adjus ting both foc us and expos ure.
72 Taking Picture s 4 • “Face Recognition AF” and “Face Recogniti on AE” may not work if the sub ject’ s face is pa rtly co vered, for exam ple, wi th sungl asses, or when the su bject do es not fac e the cam era. • The AE m etering mode is fixed to Multi-segme nt.
