4 About Softk eys This answ ering system has been designed with your convenience in mind, offering you many f eatures which y ou can access using the two “softkeys” shown in the illustration on the previous page. By pressing the softkey below the word indicated on the displa y screen, you select that oper ation.
5 2 Connect the power cord. • Plug the smaller end of the power cor d into the jack labeled POWER on the back of the ans wering system. • Flip out the bracket under the unit, and fit the power cord through the str ain relief tab. • Plug the other end of the power cor d into an electrical outlet not controlled b y a wall s witch.
6 6 Set the Clock. The screen displays the time (the def ault setting is 12 AM ). T o cor rect the setting, use C or c to cor rect the hour , then select NEXT to move to the minutes setting; repeat to select AM or PM . Select DONE when the correct time is display ed.
7 W all Installation 1 Choose a location near a modular telephone jack and a standard electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switc h. 2 Using a pencil and the template at the back of the manual, mark the w all where you want to mount the unit. 3 Choose two #4 Round Head scre ws appropriate for your w all mater ial (screws not included).
8 Fea ture Setup Y ou can set up one feature at a time, or you can set up a feature and then mo ve on to set up another featur e. After y ou chang e one feature, use the softke y to select OK to move to another featur e. If you chang e only one feature, you can continue to select OK until the screen e xits the Feature Setup mode.
9 Answ ering System Fea ture Setup Record Outgoing Announcement NOTE : If you choose not to r ecord an announcement, the system answers with a pr e-recor ded announcement: “Hello . Please leave a messag e after the tone. ” 1 Press o . 2 Use the softkey to select ANS SYS .
10 Ring Select and T oll Sav er Y ou can select how many times the line will ring befor e the system answers a call. Set for 1 to 7 rings, or choose from two T oll Saver settings. If you select Toll Saver 4–2 , the system answ ers after four rings when you have no new messag es, and after two rings when you hav e new messages.
11 Announcement Monitor This system comes set to On so you can hear y our announcement when the system answ er s a call. Y ou can reset the system so you w on’t hear the announcement. 1 Press o . 2 Use the softkey to select ANS SYS . 3 Select OK until the screen displays Announce Monitor .
12 Y ou may , howev er , live in a region wher e for calls within your Home Area Code, you must dial 10 digits (that is, the three-digit area code and the sev en digits of the phone number) or even 11 digits (“1” plus the area code and phone number).
13 Local Area Codes 1 Press o . 2 Press C or c . 3 Use the softkey to select CALL ID . 4 Select OK until the screen displays Local Area Code . 5 Press C or c to change the first digit. 6 Select NEXT to move to the second digit. 7 Press C or c to change the second digit.
14 Set Displa y Screen Language 1 Press o . 2 Press C . 3 Use the softkey to select CALL ID . (or ID LLAM ). 4 Select OK or SI until the screen displays Language/Idioma or ( Idioma/Language ) and the current selection. 5 Use the softkey under English or Espanol to change y our selection.
15 Answ ering Calls When the system answ er s a call, the caller hears the announcement you recorded follo wed by a beep. After the beep, the system begins recording your caller’ s message, up to three minutes long.
16 Listening to Y our Messages As the system plays bac k messages, the screen displa ys the number of the message playing. Befor e playing each messag e, the system announces the day and time the messag e was received. The screen displays the caller’ s name and number , if stored.
17 Stop message playback Press P . Saving messages The system automatically sav es your messages until y ou delete them, and can store approximately 12 minutes of messag es, memos and announcements (up to a maximum of 99 messages). When memory is full, or the maximum number of messa ges is recor ded, the screen displays MEMORY FULL .
18 Connect with the Answering System 1 Dial your telephone number from a touc h tone phone with a different telephone number . 2 When the system answ er s, enter your three-digit Remote Access Code dur ing or after the announcement. The system announces the number of messages, then beeps twice.
19 Delete Messages Delete All Messages 1 Connect with the answering system 2 After you hav e listened to all messages and heard the two beeps, press 33 . All messages are deleted. (If you hav en’t listened to messages, you will hear an error tone, and the messages will not be deleted.
20 Ending the Remote Access Call Press *9 . The system announces, “The machine will now hang up, ” and disconnects from the line. Changing Remote Access Code 1 Connect with the answering system. 2 Press 99 . The system announces “Enter new code.
21 This product is designed to store and displa y information about incoming telephone calls. For this f eature to wor k, the unit must be used with Caller Identification ser vice provided by your local telephone company; there is a f ee for this service, and it may not be available in all areas.
22 NEW CALL Light This light stays on steadil y when you have r eceived call information but have not y et review ed it. Re viewing Call History 1 T o review latest calls, press c . 2 T o advance through the call history from an earlier call, press C .
23 Making a Displa y Dial Call 1 Press C or c to locate the number in the call histor y that you want to dial. 2 Lift the receiver of the phone connected to the system. 3 Press d . The displayed number is dialed. (If you don’t lift the receiv er befor e pressing d , the system will not dial the number .
24 Displa y Messages PRIVATE NAME The other party is blocking name inf or mation. PRIVATE NUMBER The other party is blocking telephone number inf or mation. PRIVATE CALLER The other party is blocking name and telephone number information. UNKNOWN NAME Caller’ s number is available, but name is not.

26 System Does Not Respond to Remote Commands • Make sure you ar e calling from a touch tone phone. When you dial a number , you should hear tones. If you hear clicks instead, the phone is not a touch tone telephone. • There may be noise or interf erence on the phone line you are using.
