2 PRECA UTIONS FOR Y OUR CAMERA Y our P entax camera is a high-precision mechanism. Handle it with great care. Precautions when taking pictures • Do not use the camera where it may come in contact with rain, w ater , or any other liquid, because the camera is not w eather , water , or liquid resistant.
3 • Electr ical prob lems may often be caused by w ater , dir t or dust at points of electrical contact. Also check f or batter y leakage, tr aces of dir t or grease, or corrosion due to salinity or gas . If you cannot correct the problems , have y our camera inspected at a P entax service center.
4 PRECA UTIONS FOR B A TTER Y USA GE • Use two 3V lithium batter ies (CR2 type). • Misuse of the batter y can cause hazards such as leakage, ov erheating, explosion, etc. The battery should be inser ted correctly with regard to polarity (+ and -) marked on the batter y and the camera.

26 Low Battery W arning When the batteries are nearly exhausted, the low battery symbol appears on the LCD panel to warn you. Replace the batteries as soon as possible. ✍ MEMO • See page 23 for replacing the batteries. • Even if the lo w-batter y symbol appears, e xposure will be correct as long as the shutter can be released.

This metering mode automatically measures light in 16 different zones , enabling proper e xposure value in a wide v ariety of normal and backlight conditions.

50 UNLO ADING A FILM 1 The film automatically rewinds at the end of the roll. During rewinding, blinks on the LCD panel, indicating that the film is being rew ound, the e xposure counter counts frame numbers in re verse . 2 When the film is fully rew ound, blinks on the LCD panel.

F or example, it is possib le to take a picture of a dark backg round then a picture of a bright (or flash-lit) subject on the same frame.

66 SELECTING THE PICTURE MODES The camera incorporates the Auto picture mode function. In this mode, the camera automatically selects one of the fiv e picture modes depending on the camera-to-subject distance and image magnification. Y ou can also select your desired picture mode manually .

74 A correct e xposure is established by a combination of shutter speed and aper ture setting according to the subject ’ s br ightness. There are many correct combinations of shutter speed and aper ture f or a par ticular subject ’ s brightness. Different shutter speed and aper ture settings produce diff erent effects .

76 Using the Shutter-Priority AE Mode When the desired shutter speed is selected, the appropriate aper ture is automatically set b y the camera for a proper e xposure according to the brightness of the subject.

78 Using the Aperture-Priority AE Mode When the desired aper ture is selected, the appropriate shutter speed is automatically set by the camer a for a proper e xposure. This mode is ideal f or shooting landscapes with increased depth of field, or a por trait against a b lurred background.

82 SELECTING ANO THER EXPOSURE MODE ✍ MEMO • The AE lock does not operate in the Metered Man ual Mode. • When using negative color film, the finished print is not greatly aff ected by a certain amount of over- or under-e xposure. This is because color negative film has wide latitude .
