8 C4655M (2/11) Product Overview APPLICATION WINDOW This section describes the DX4700/DX4800 app lication wind ow , GUI toolbar , Setup men u, PTZ contro l, and on-sc reen keyboard. T his manual describes how to opera te and administer the unit usin g the mouse.
C4655M (2/11) 9 GUI T OOLBAR The GUI toolbar is used to access the Setu p menu and controls t hat allow you to operat e and configure th e HVR. Y ou can use the mouse to easily and quickly change settin gs and to operate the system. Figure 2. GUI T oolbar Status: Displays the current date and time.
10 C4655M (2/11) PTZ CONTROL The PTZ cont rol is availab le for cameras th at support PT Z functions usin g Pelco C, Pelco P , and P elco D protoc ols. It is also a vai lable for s upported third-party dome cameras. NOTE: When operat ing third-party cameras, the PT Z control supports the up, down, lef t, right, zoom in, and zoom out funct ions.

C4655M (2/11) 13 UNIT SHUTDOWN NOTE: Y ou must be logged on to the unit with administrator -level permission to shut down. T o shut down the unit: 1. On the front pan el, press and ho ld the power butt on until you hear a beep. The Lo gin virtual keyb oard appears.
14 C4655M (2/11) MOTION AREA SELECTION The motion a rea is confi gured throug h the appli cation window. Use the outline tool to draw a boundary aro und multiple ar eas. Selecting a Motion Area T o select a motion area: 1. From the Link ing menu, click Motion.
C4655M (2/11) 15 INSTANT RECORDING AND PLAYBACK The instant reco rding feature allows you to start a manual reco rding session immediately from the live view mo de. Y ou can also initiate the instant rec ording mode for channels that are schedul ed for norma l, alarm, motion, or A TM/POS recording.

18 C4655M (2/11) PTZ PRESETS A preset is a user -defined camera position that uses PT Z and fo cus commands. (The camera’ s autofocus option must be turned off to use presets.
C4655M (2/11) 19 PTZ PATTERNS Programming a Pattern 1. Click SET . The camera is now in the programming mode. 2. Click a number rep resenting the pattern (1 to 4). 3. Click P A TTERN. 4. Move the camer a through a s eries of move ments using the on-screen PT Z and focus con trols.
20 C4655M (2/11) ACKNOWLEDGING AN ALARM OR MOTION EVENT The unit allows you to manually acknowle dge an event state that has activated a relay output. By default, the HVR’ s output rela y is turned off when the post-alarm time expires. Acknowledging an alarm or moti on event do es not end alarm or motion event recording .

C4655M (2/11) 25 DST DATE/T IME SEARCH AND PLAYBACK If the unit is co nfigured for Da ylight Saving T ime (D ST), the HVR uses a d ifferent appr oach to stor e and display vide o. When DS T ends, the HVR’ s internal time auto matically adjusts backward one hour .

Click the T ar get Device box, and then selec t a device. b. Click the Calendar icon . c. Click the year , month, and day of the week to defin e your event search date.

32 C4655M (2/11) CAPTURING A VIDEO SCENE The unit al lows you to pause video playb ack to take a s napshot of a v ideo scene. The image is saved to the USB device i n JPEG f ormat. T o take a sn apshot of a vi deo scene: 1. Insert a USB device. 2. Click a camera pane .

C4655M (2/11) 35 PTZ The DX4700/DX48 00 supports u p to 16 ser ial PTZ came ras. Multiple PTZ cameras c an be connec ted and contr olled individ ually by daisy-chaini ng the came ra connection s. The unit als o allows you t o assign each ca mera a PTZ cont rol address.
36 C4655M (2/11) IP CAMERA The DX4700/DX48 00 supports up to two IP came ras. For infor m ation about the sup ported IP camera resolutions, refer to A ppendix D: Supported IP Camera Resolutions on page 7 4. NOTES: • The unit do es not supp ort alarm or motion record ing for IP c ameras.
C4655M (2/11) 37 T o test the IP camera fo r operation: 1. From the Camera menu, click the IP Camera submenu. 2. Click the Channe l box, and select an IP camera. 3. Click T est. A message appears confirming that the IP came ra is configured correctly .
38 C4655M (2/11) STORAGE The unit al lows you to conf igure how inter nal hard disk storage is a llocated for s toring recorde d video. The HVR combines the s torage space of multiple HDDs i nto one logica l disk and creat es two partit ions: TEMP an d DA T A.
C4655M (2/11) 39 T o format the drives : 1. From the Camera menu, click the Storage submen u. 2. Click Format. The on- screen keyboard appears. 3. T ype Y es to format the HDD. 4. Click OK. 5. Wait while the syst em drives are formatted. Af ter the for mat process i s complete, the “Restart the System” dialog box appears .

Continue to click the cell to select a new recording mode. 4. Repeat the previous steps (as necessary) to configure the reco rding mode for each channel.

42 C4655M (2/11) HOLIDAY SCHEDULES The unit su pports up to 10 holiday sch edules. When a h oliday and a weekday schedul e occur on the same date, the h oliday sch edule override s the weekday schedu le. Creating a Holiday Schedule 1. From the Schedu le submenu, click the Holida y button.

C4655M (2/11) 45 ALARM RECORDING Y ou can configur e each camera to record at a different resolution, qu ality , and f rame rate to capture alar m-triggered v ideo. Th e unit also allows you to configu re the preal arm and postal arm settings for each camera.
46 C4655M (2/11) T EXT RECORDING A TM/POS reco rding is only av ailable for one ch annel at a time. In addition to configuring th e text recordin g mode feature, t her e are other setting s that must be configured.
C4655M (2/11) 47 T o configure th e instant recordin g mode: 1. From the Camera menu, click the Instant/Panic Recording submenu. 2. Click the Ch 1 Resolution box, and enter a setting. 3. Config ure the remaining settings for Ch 1. 4. Repeat the pre vious steps (as necessary) to configure additional channels.
48 C4655M (2/11) SEQUENCE Y ou can set the sequence dwell time for the main an d spot monitor in increments of 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, or 90 s econds. T o set the dwell time: 1. From the Display menu, cl ick the Se quence submenu. 2. Click the Main Dwell T ime box, and select the main monitor dwell time.
C4655M (2/11) 49 LINKING MENU The Linking me nu allows you to configure alarm inputs, motion input s, and relay outputs. NOTES: • The prealarm and postalarm record ing settings are conf igured in the nor mal recording opt ion on the Camera menu. Refe r to Schedule Menu on page 39 for more information .

52 C4655M (2/11) NOTIFICATION The unit al lows you to conf igure the fol lowing settin gs: • Alarm On: Sends a text -based alarm n otification in response to a n alarm ev ent. • Motion Detection: Sends a text-based motion n otification in response to a motion event.

C4655M (2/11) 55 USER MENU The DX4700/DX48 00 features are organize d into six ca tegories: setu p, search/pla y, export, PTZ , power off, and instant r ecord. T o operate the unit, a user mu st be assigned access rights to one or more of these cate gories.
56 C4655M (2/11) USER The unit al lows you to conf igure the fol lowing settin gs: • User ID: Allows you to select the following: – ADMINISTRATOR: Allows you to change th e default password and configure the a dministrator for automatic logout. The user name and group canno t be changed.

62 C4655M (2/11) T o configur e the unit to use a pub lic NTP server : 1. From the System menu, click th e NTP submenu. 2. Click the NTP box. The remaining bo xes become available. 3. Click the Server box, and select PUBLIC SERVER. 4. T o set the synchronizati on period, click the Sync.
C4655M (2/11) 63 UPDATE The update feat ure allows you to upgrade HVR so ftware. The current HVR configuration settings are not d eleted or replaced durin g the update process.
64 C4655M (2/11) Updating Over the Network T o update over the network: 1. From the System me nu, click the Update submenu. 2. Click the Selection box, and then select a setting. 3. Click the Method box, and then select NETWORK. 4. Click the Upda te Server box, and then type the update ser ver IP addres s.
C4655M (2/11) 65 BACKUP The backup feature allows you to perform an instant backup of recorded da ta. It also allows you to configure the system to perf orm an automatic backup of d ata on a sched uled basis. You must have administr ator permis sions for sett ing up and c onducting bac kup procedu res.
66 C4655M (2/11) Instant Backup The instant backu p feature allows you to manually back up data . The backup settings unique to the instant ba ckup mode are as fo llows: • Schedule Start: Unavailable and is not used. • T ime Range Date: Sets the date of t he backup pro cess.
C4655M (2/11) 67 Daily Backup Sched ule The daily ba ckup feature allows you to pe rform an auto matic backup o f recorded d ata to a USB devi ce. Y ou can confi gure the time when the backup proc ess starts and ends.
68 C4655M (2/11) W eekly Backup Schedule The weekly backup feat ure allows you to perfor m an automatic backup of the curr ent week’ s data to a USB device only . The week b egins at 00:00 hours on Mond ay and ends at 23:59 hours on Sunday . Data can be backed up for one or more days and from one minute to 24 ho urs.
C4655M (2/11) 69 Erase Media The erase me dia feature a llows you to erase and format med ia for use with the HVR. Although media can be formatted on a PC, Pel co recommends that the medi a be formatted on the HVR to ensur e optimal equipment function.
