The DX8000 co mes equipped with a built-in use r account name d “Guest.” Each time the uni t is turned on , the Guest ac count is aut omatically act ivated.

C624M-C (5/06) 31 W ORKING WITH THE SITE TREE The Site tree provides acce ss to DX8000 resources, such as ca meras, alarm input s, and relay ou tputs. Objects can be selected by clicking once with the left mouse bu tton and linked by drag ging and dropping th e icon into the view pane with the mouse.

C624M-C (5/06) 39 CUSTOMIZING THE ON- SCREEN DISPLAY (OSD) Users with Guest and Power Use r access and higher can add and delete on-screen display items. T o customize the on-screen dis play: 1. From the DX80 00 menu bar , choose View > OSD and then selec t the items y ou want to add to or delete from the OSD.

C624M-C (5/06) 43 ADJUSTING THE CAMERA LENS The keypad is hidden in the extended view mode. In this case, select the stan dard view mode to display the keypad. T o switch between the stan dard and extended view mode: For information on chang ing view modes, refer to Switching Between Sta ndard and Extended Pa nel Views on page 26.
44 C624M-C (5/06) ADJUSTING THE CAMERA ZOOM T o adjust camera zoom using the mouse: The following figure shows how to ope rate the mouse to zoom in and out. Y ou can also use keyboard shortcu ts to operate the lens features of cameras such as Pelco’ s Spectra III.
C624M-C (5/06) 45 USING PC KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS TO OPE RATE PTZ AND LENS FUNCTIONS Users with Standard User access and higher may use a PC keyboard to operate PTZ and lens functions of cameras tha t support such features . PTZ and lens functions can be controlled in Live mode using the keyboard.
46 C624M-C (5/06) PTZ PRESETS A preset is a user -defined camera position using pa n and tilt, zoom, and focus commands (came ra’ s auto focus option must be off ). Only cameras that suppor t positioning and progra mming using D, P , or Coaxitro n protocols ca n use this f eature.
C624M-C (5/06) 47 5. Using th e PTZ keypad, select a numbe r for the new preset (for example, 1 ). 6. Click to store the preset in the selected memory loca tion. 7. Repeat steps 4-6 for each preset you want to pr ogram. 8. Click again to exit progra mming mode.
48 C624M-C (5/06) CLEARING A PRESET T o clear a preset: 1. On the DX8 000 keypad, click to enter programming mode. 2. Click the number o f the preset you want to clear from the PTZ keypad. 3. Click . 4. Repeat steps 2 a nd 3 to clear multiple presets.
C624M-C (5/06) 49 PROGRAMMING A PATTERN This section describes how to pr ogram a pattern. Cert ain PTZ devices, such as Pelco’ s Spec tra series domes, will display an on- screen message stating the a mount of re maining memory a vailable for p attern prog ramming.
50 C624M-C (5/06) ACTIVATING A PATTERN When activated, a patter n will repeat indefinitely until it is cleared, anot her patter n is set, o r the on-scre en PTZ cont rol is moved. T o activat e a pattern : 1. On the DX8 000 keypad, click a pattern number (1 to 4) on the keypad.

54 C624M-C (5/06) SENDING AUXILIARY COMMANDS TO A DEVICE The DX8000 auxiliary featur e allows you to control ex ternal equipment co nnected to the auxiliary outputs of Spectra domes or Es prit positioning systems. The auxiliary function is implemented through the D protocol and P protocol.
C624M-C (5/06) 55 CONFIGURING PRESET T OURS A preset to ur allows a camer a to move thro ugh a progra mmed sequen ce of PTZ pres ets. The DX80 00 Series DVR can store up to four preset tours. While four to urs can be programmed, only one tour can be activated at a time.

C624M-C (5/06) 59 USING THE KBD300A KEYBOARD The KBD300A allows you to operate certain DX8000 live view display f unctions and control camera PTZ operat ions from a keyboard rath er than a mouse. When connect ed to the D X8000 serve r , the KBD30 0A supports two modes: th e Standard mode and th e Shift mode.
60 C624M-C (5/06) KBD300A S HIFT M ODE O PERATIONAL FEATURE S The KBD300 A Shift mode allo ws you to control certain DX8000 operation features in the S ite tree from the keyboard. Like live video, recorded video is viewed from the camer a view panels on the main screen . Refer to Understanding V iew Panes and Panels on page 26 for in formation on view panels.

The playback controls are hidden in th e extended view mode. In t his case, sele ct the standa rd view mode to d isplay the pl ayback controls.

V ideo is presented as a se ries of thumbnai l images. Each thumbna il represents the first image recorded du ring a specified period of time.

T o use a n action cod e to search tr ansactio n data, the action code must be created first, before recording the transacti on data.

C624M-C (5/06) 89 V IEWING A VIDEO THUMBNAIL After the search has been completed, a series o f thumbnails appear on th e screen below the search gr id. Each thumbnail contains the first image of recorded video for the listed time period. • Double-clicking a thumbn ail will cause it to begin playing.
