10 Figure 2. Model 2173 standalone rear panel 3.1 CONNECTING THE TWISTED-PAIR LINE INTERFACE The Model 2173 suppor ts communication between two peer Ethernet LAN sites ov er a distance of up to 4,250 ft (1.3 km) over 24 A WG (0.5 mm) twisted-pair wire.
11 1. T o function properly , the two Model 2173s m ust be connected together using twisted-pair , unconditioned, dr y , metal wire, between 19 (0.9mm) and 26 A WG (0.4mm). Leased circuits that run through signal equalization equipment are not acceptable .

An e xternal AC or DC pow er supply is av ailable separately . This connec- tion is made via the barrel jack on the rear panel of the Model 2173.

15 5.2 FRONT PANEL LED STATUS MONITORS The Model 2173 f eatures six front panel LEDs that monitor power , the Ethernet signals, the CopperLINK connection, and the remote/local set- ting. Figure 7 shows the front panel location of each LED . T ab le 2 on page 15 describes the LED functions.
