Safety instructions 6 CAUTION: Installation ● After moving the unit from cold areas to warmer areas, let the unit adjust to the warmer temperature and do not connect the unit for about 30 minutes. If the unit is connected too soon after a sudden climate change, condensation may form inside the unit causing malfunction.

Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. — If you ingest any toner , drink several glasses of water to dilute your stomach contents, and seek immediate medical treatment.
8 Safety instructions FOR BEST PERFORMANCE: ● In the printing process, heat is used to fuse toner onto the page. As a result, it is normal for the machine to produce an odour during and shortly after printing. Be sure to use this unit in an area with proper ventilation.

16 Setup T oner cartridge and drum unit ! Caution: ● Read the instructions below before you begin installation. After you have read them, open the drum unit protection bag. The drum unit contains a photosensitive drum. Exposing it to light may damage the drum.

18 Setup Note for installation: ● Do not place the unit in an area where the paper tray may be obstructed (i.e. by a wall etc.). ● Recording paper will be ejected from the front of the unit. Do not place anything in front of the unit. Paper stacker and paper tray ! Insert the paper tray into the slot on the back of the unit.
19 Setup Recording paper ! 1 Pinch the right side of the recording paper guides, then slide it open to its full width. 2 Fan the stack of paper to prevent a paper jam. 3 Insert the paper into the recording paper entrance. ● The paper should not be over the tab.

34 Sending Faxes T o select the resolution Select the desired resolution according to the type of document. — “ ST ANDARD” : For printed or typewritten originals with normal-sized characters. — “FINE” : For originals with small printing. — “ SUPER FINE” : For originals with very small printing.

42 Receiving Faxes Setting the unit to receive faxes ! Y ou have a separate telephone line just for faxes. F AX ONL Y mode (p. 45) T urn AUT O ANSWER on by pressing PQ . When receiving calls: All incoming calls will be answered as faxes. Use only as a fax Y ou want to use the fax machine with an answering machine.

44 Receiving Faxes 1 When the unit rings, lift the handset to answer the call. 2 When: — document reception is required, — a fax calling tone (slow beep) is heard, or — no sound is heard, press i . 3 Replace the handset. ● The unit will start fax reception.
45 Receiving Faxes ON F AX ONL Y mode ! (all calls are received as faxes) If the F AX ON light is of f, turn it on by pressing PQ . Sending a PC document as a fax message from your PC Y ou can access the fax function from a Windows application using Multi-Function Station software. 72 Operations The printing quality is poor . ● Some paper has instructions recommending which side to print on. T ry turning the paper over . ● Y ou may have used paper with a cotton and/or fibre content that is over 20%, such as letterhead or resume paper .
