10 Precautions The f ollowing precautions are recommended to e xtend the lif e of the unit. Prior to scanning, remove, all staples and paper clips from pages. Do not place books, paper, or other items on the unit. Do not place the unit in an area where there is a lot of smoke, dust, chemical fumes or vibration.
11 Precautions ≥ ≥ ≥ ≥ Power Source • Use a v oltage lev el that does not v ar y more than d 10% from the v oltage le vel marked on the nameplate (located on the back side of the scanner). • Do not use an e xtension cord. • This scanner should be connected to a grounded outlet.

14 Display Panel Instructions ¥ Setting the language • Select English, Ger man or J apanese as the language which is to appear on the LCD display . • The language setting mode is appeared automatically when the unit’ s po wer is turned on for the first time after the unit was purchased.
15 Display Panel Instructions ∫ ∫ ∫ ∫ Setting the scanner The f ollowing parameters can be customiz ed using the scanner’ s v arious setting modes. If the application software pro vides these f eatures, it will be suppor ted by the scanner .

17 Display Panel Instructions Imprinter menu Depending on the setting of the “Counter setting menu”, the page number of the scanned document will be printed. The impr inter option (KV -SS010) is required. If a host computer is connected, there ma y be settings required on the host computer as well.

19 Display Panel Instructions ¥ Operation 1 Press one of the menu k ey until the desired menu is displa y ed. • The SCAN, COUNTER, IMPRINT and O THERS keys are used as a men u key . • When pressing the SCAN key , the displa y will appear as shown at the right.

21 Display Panel Instructions 06 Back side dropout color Color selection 07 Back side brightness • When “Host” is displa yed, pressing the 1 k ey or the 2 key will change the displa y to “Nor m”. • “D” means dark. “L ” means light.
22 Display Panel Instructions • When scanning a document which is shor ter than 210 mm / 8.3" (A5 size) in length, double f eed detection will not work well. • Thick, creased, or edited documents with correction fluid as w ell as documents with holes near the center ma y give y ou f alse double f eed w arning.
23 Display Panel Instructions • Scanning settings 01-17 must be sa ved using setting “18 Sa v e scanning settings (Execution)”. Ev en if they are not sa ved, the y will be applied. If the power is turned off, the ne xt time the unit is used the y will not be applied.
24 Display Panel Instructions Counter setting menu (by pressing the COUNTER key) Number, mode and default display • Pressing the 3 ke y will change to the ne xt mode. • Pressing the 4 ke y will change to the pre vious mode. Contents • Pressing the 1 ke y or the 2 ke y will change to another v alue .
25 Display Panel Instructions Imprinter setting menu (by pressing the IMPRINT key) Both a pre-imprinter and post-impr inter can be installed at the same time. Howe v er , the oper ator may only use one imprinter at a time. If both of the impr inters are installed, you can set the f ollowing conditions .
26 Display Panel Instructions 04 Setting the pre-imprinter orientation • This setting can be done only when a pre- imprinter is installed. 11 Setting the post-imprinter data • This setting can be done only when a post- imprinter is installed. This is the same as the pre-imprinter .

28 Display Panel Instructions 06 Checking the roller cleaning warning 0%: This is display ed when “Clean Roller Warning ≤≤ %” displa yed is cleared.
29 Display Panel Instructions ¥ Other display explanations Display Content This will be displa yed when scanning is started until it is completed. After completion, “Ready” will be displa yed. If the ST OP ke y is pressed, scanning will stop . This will be displa yed when the ST OP k ey w as pressed during scanning.
30 Loading Documents 1 Documents that hav e been stapled together or stack ed together (as in a file f older), will need to be separated. 1 Fan the stack of documents to separate all the edges. 2 Hold both ends and bend the documents as shown in the illustration.
31 Loading Documents 4 Place the documents on the hopper with the side to be scanned f acing up . Then push them in the direction of the arrow until the y stop . • Be sure to place the documents on the hopper as shown in the dia gram at the right. The amount of documents should not exceed the limit mark on the document guide.
32 Loading Documents 6 When using long paper , pull out the hopper e xtension tra y from the hopper and the e xit stopper from the e xit e xtension tra y . Y ou can also extend the e xit e xtension tra y , if required. (See fig. 1) • When scanning narro w documents as shown belo w , pull up the exit substopper .
33 Secondary Settings ∫ ∫ ∫ ∫ Selecting the paper path for scanned document T o select the front, set the paper path selector to the upper side. T o select a straight path pass through to the back, set the paper path selector to the low er side.
34 Others ∫ ∫ ∫ ∫ How to use the control sheet If the control sheet is used, the documents under the control sheet are scanned in accordance with the code on the control sheet regardless of scanning condition that is selected pre viously . • Multiple control sheets can be used.
35 Clearing Paper Jams T or n documents, thin documents or documents that are creased on the top edge may cause paper jams . If a paper jam occurs (“U xx JAM” will be display ed on the LCD), remov e the jammed sheet according to the f ollowing procedure.
36 Cleaning the Unit ∫ ∫ ∫ ∫ Outside of the scanner ≥ ≥ ≥ ≥ Clean the unit at least once a month. 1 T ur n the pow er off . 2 Clean the cov er with a soft cloth. • The document insertion and exit slots get dirty easily , so clean them.
37 Cleaning the Unit 3 Use the accessor y roller cleaning paper (KV -SS03) to remov e the dir t from the surf aces of all rollers. • When wiping off the dirt, hold the r ollers to prevent them fr om rotating. Wipe the roller s all the wa y ar ound fr om one end to the other in the directions of the arro ws shown on the diagram to the right.
38 Cleaning the Unit 4 Close the front door . • Push both sides of the front door do wn slowl y until it clic ks into place. • After cleaning, clear the “Clean Roller W arning” display .
39 Cleaning the Unit 3 Clean the scanning section glass and sensor rollers using the accessor y roller cleaning paper . Then remov e the dir t on the document sensors and double f eed detection sensors with the included blo w er .
40 Cleaning the Unit ¥ Re-attachment of the sensor roller When the sensor roller is remov ed while cleaning the inside of the scanner , re-attach it as sho wn below . Lower sensor roller: Attach the roller by placing the gear side to the left side of the scanner and inser ting both side’ s bear ings into the guide groov es .
41 Replacing Consumables If “Warning Replace Roller” message is displayed on the LCD, replace the paper feed roller module and retard roller module at the same time. 1 T ur n the pow er off and unplug the pow er cord. 2 Use your hand to pull to wards y ou the front door release.
42 Replacing Consumables 4 Open the optional “Roller Exchange Kit (KV -SS009)”, and take out the paper f eed roller module. F or supplies and accessories: Call 1-800-346-4768 (U .
43 Replacing Consumables 6 Push up on the paper f eed roller bloc k and it will magnetically attach to the chassis. • When attaching the paper feed r oller bloc k to the chassis, do not damage the roller . • Y ou are now finished attaching the paper feed r oller module .
44 Replacing Consumables 9 T ake out the retard roller module in the optional “Roller Exchange Kit (KV - SS009)”. F or supplies and accessories: Call 1-800-346-4768 (U . S. A. only) or your dealer . 10 Pull the right side of the shaft in the direction of the arrow and hold it there .
45 Replacing Consumables 11 Hold the conv e y or using both hands, and close the conv e y or by pushing it into the unit. • When the con vey or is c losed, the clic k- stop mechanism will operate. • If the con vey or is not c losed correctly and the operation in step 12 is done, the con vey or ma y break.
46 Repacking Instructions It is highly recommended that you keep the original carton and ALL packing materials. lf you need to transport or ship your scanner, please follow these instructions. Please Note : • Please use the original carton and all of the original packing materials.

49 Troubleshooting If a problem occurs while the unit is being used, first check the following items. If the unit still malfunctions, turn it OFF, unplug the power cord and call for service. Symptom P ossib le Cause Remedy The LCD does not display when the power switch is turned ON.
50 Troubleshooting LCD P ossib le Cause Remedy The rollers are dirty. Clean the rollers. (See page 36 through 38 .) The rollers need to be replaced. Replace the paper feed roller module and retard roller module. (See pages 41 through 45 .) Multiple sheets were fed into the unit.
51 Troubleshooting LCD P ossible Cause Remedy The post-imprinter (back) door is open. Close the post-imprinter door. The pre-imprinter (top) door is open. Close the pre-imprinter door. A user non-serviceable error has occurred. Please consult with a service representative.
