- 1 1 - 2 Insert the battery , taking c are to mat ch up the termina l markings. A terminal markings ≥ Insert the battery so that the terminal markings face up. It is possible to mistakenly insert the battery upside down, so be sure to check the orientation carefully .
- 12 - Charging the battery The unit is in th e standby con dition when the AC adap tor is connec ted. The primary ci rcuit is always “live” as long as the AC ada ptor is connec ted to an electr ical outlet . Important: ≥ The AC adap t or and USB cable are for u se with this unit only .
- 13 - 1 Connect t he USB cabl e to the AC adap tor . ≥ Check that the plug portion of the AC adaptor is not misaligned. 2 Connect t he AC adaptor into the AC outlet. 3 Connect t he USB cable to the unit. ≥ Connecting the USB cable in the wrong direction may cause damage to the USB/A V connector of the unit .

Cards that you can use w ith th is unit Use SD cards conforming to Class 4 or higher of the SD Speed Class Rating* for motion picture recordi ng.

- 18 - Inserting/removing an SD c ard Caution: Check that the status indicator has gone o f f. 1 Open the b attery/card co ver . 2 Insert (remove ) the SD card into (from ) the card slot. ≥ Face the labe l side B in the direction show n in th e illustration and press it straight in as far as it will go.
- 19 - 3 Close the ba ttery/card cover . ≥ Securely close it until it clicks. ≥ Do not touc h th e terminals on the bac k of the SD card. ≥ Do not shock , ben d, or drop the SD card. ≥ Electri cal noise, st atic electric ity or the f ailure of t his unit or the SD card may dama ge or era se the dat a stored on the SD card.
- 20 - Open the LCD monitor and press the power button to turn on the un it. The LCD monitor turns on. About St andby Mode When the LCD moni t or is closed while the unit is on, the unit enter s S tandby Mode which consumes very lit tl e power . S tand by Mode allows picture s to be recorded as soon as t he LCD monitor is opened .
- 21 - ≥ If the unit has not bee n ope rated for app roximately 5 mi nutes (sett i ngs at the time of purchase) when the po wer is turned on, th e ECONOMY function will ac t ivate and switch to S t andb y Mode to limit power consumptio n in situati ons such as the user forgetting to t urn the unit off .

- 26 - ∫ Basic motion picture recording ≥ The unit shou ld normally be held stead y when recording. ≥ If you move the unit when recording, do so slowly , maintaining a const ant speed.
- 27 - ≥ Before turning on the unit, remove the lens ca p. ≥ Motion pictures are recorded to the SD card if one is inserted. If no SD card is i nserted, the motion pi ctures are recorded to the built-in memory . 1 Open the L CD monitor . 2 Press the recording st art/stop button to st art recording.
- 28 - ∫ About the scre en indications in the motion pic ture recording * When [CREA TIVE CONTROL] ( l 64) i s set to (Miniature Effec t (MINI)) or (T ime Lap se Rec (INTV)), the maximum rec ordable time for one scene (012: 00:0 0) is display ed.
- 29 - ≥ Recording may become out of focus if the unit i s subj ected to s hock while the power is tur ned on. If this happens, hold th e power button until th e LCD mon ito r t urns o ff to t urn the po wer t o the unit of f , and tur n the power on aga in.

- 33 - About recording still picture s during motion picture recording and audio recording Y o u can re cord still p ictur es whi le rec ordin g a mot ion pic ture o r whi le recording audio . (simultan eous recording) Press the button fully (press to the bottom ) to t ake the p icture .

- 38 - ∫ Intelligent Aut o Mode When switching to Int ellig ent Auto Mode, the Automatic Whit e Bal ance and Auto Foc us operate and automatic al ly adjust the colo r balance and focusing. Dependi ng on the brig ht ness of the subject et c., th e ape rt ure an d shut ter speed are au tomatically adjusted for an optimu m brightness.

- 60 - ∫ Recording tech nique ∫ About size o f still pictures The sizes of panorama still picture s are as follows. ≥ During pano rama still picture recordin g, the zoom fu nc tion is disabled.
- 61 - ≥ Focus and White Bala nc e will be fi x ed to the op timal val ues for the still picture for f i rs t frame. Therefo re, if focus , brightness or a light source changes drastically duri ng recording, the p anorama still picture as a whole may not be recorded with optimal focu s or a color tone.
- 62 - ≥ Set to R e cor ding Mod e . ( l 22) Y ou can switch bet ween motion picture rec ording and audio rec ording, and switch th e image quality of the mot i on pi cture to record. *1 is a fo rmat suita ble f or playback on a high-d efi nition TV .
- 63 - ≥ When the unit is move d a lot or mo ved qu ickly , or when a fast -mov ing subject is rec orde d (particula rly when recording in mode), mosaic-type noise may appear at playback. The higher the number of pixels, th e higher the c larity of the pictur e when printing.
- 64 - Y ou can add v arious type s of filter e ffec ts when re cording mot ion pic tures and still pictures. - 76 - The camera automatically detects the person’s face. ∫ About prioritized face framing The priorit i z ed face frame is dis play ed in yellow . When the unit is set to Port ra it Mode in Intelligent Auto Mode, the unit will focus on the priorit ized face fr ame and adjust the brightnes s accordingly .
- 77 - This is for reduc ing the wind noise coming into the built-in microphone s. ≥ This func tio n’s defaul t setting is [ (ON)]. ≥ Y ou may not see th e full effe ct depending on th e recording cond itions.
- 78 - 2 Select the function to register us ing the SET button, and press the SET button. ≥ T o c o ntinue and regi s ter other func tio ns, repeat S teps 1 and 2. 3 Press the MENU button. ≥ A confirma tio n screen for th e shortcut settings appears.

- 81 - White Bala nce Automat ic White Balance function may not rep roduce natu ral c olors depending on the scenes or lighting c onditions. If so, yo u can adjus t the White Balanc e manually . 1 Select the m enu. 2 Select the W hite Balance using the SET b utton, and press th e SET button.

- 86 - Creating still picture from motion picture A single fra me from the recorde d motion picture c an be saved as a sti ll picture. The picture size of the still picture t o be created will differ depending on the Recording Mo de of the recorded mo tion pic ture.
- 87 - Cutting out a section of a p anorama still picture Y ou can cut out and sav e a section of a panora ma still picture you hav e recorded . 1 Display the p anorama still pictur e. 2 Press the SET button to st art scr oll playback of the pa norama still p icture.
