7 Read this first! Alwa ys take some trial shots before actual shooting. • Wh en shooting i mpor tant events (such as weddings), always tak e some tr ial shots and ch eck that the sound and images ha v e been rec orded prop erly bef ore act ual shootin g.
8 Operating precautions Do not allow any water to g et into the cam- era-recorder when using it in the rain or snow or at the beach. • F ailure to heed this cau tion will cause the camera- recorder or cassette to malfunction (and may result in irreparab le damage).
9 Battery char acteristics This camer a-recorder use s a rechargeab le lithiu m- ion battery that uses its internal chemic al reaction to generate el ectric al energy . This reaction is easily influence d by the ambient temperatur e and humidity , and t he batter y’s eff ective operating time is reduced as the temperature rises or falls.
10 Chec king the system operations After purc hase, do these system ch ecks to ensure that the unit is w orking properly bef ore you attempt to shoot an ything . 1 Lift up the viewf inder. 2 Press on the DC cord’s battery conn ector and mov e it down until it clic ks into pl ace.
11 3 Press PUSH to close the cass ette holder. The holder au tomatically goes into pos ition when you close it corre ctly . While pressi ng the loc k release , mov e the PO WER swit ch to ON. The CAMERA l amp lights re d (camera mode) and the camera is now in the sh ooting standby mode.
12 Checki ng the system oper ations (contin ued) 1 Press the OPE N butto n in the direction sh own by arrow (1) to open the LCD . It can open ou t to 120 degrees. Do not tr y to open it further as this will damage the camera. 2 While in the shooting st andby mode, p ress the REC CHECK button.

32 Shooting techniques f or different targets Press REC CHECK in th e shooting standb y mode and two seconds of th e last thing you shot play , and then the ca mera retu rns to the shooting standb y mode. • REC CHECK does not w ork if you hav e shot f or less than a second.
33 Use the ST ART/ST OP button on th e handle to make it easie r to shoot from low ang les. Images in the LCD when it is turned 180 d egrees for self-por trait shooti ng may appear unusual. Y ou can mak e them ap pear better b y re versing left and right.

37 Shooting in pr ogressive mode Y ou can c hange the progre ssive mode in the setup menu, SCENE FILE screen, PROGRESSIVE (Page 70). 30P mode: Shoot 30 frames a second in the pr ogressive mode. For output and recordin g, the 30-frame- per- second signal is converted to 60 -field-per- second inter lace.
38 Focus This camera allows you to choos e between automatic and man ual f ocusing . 1 If the camera is in auto mode, press t he A UT O button to switch to manual focusing ( goes out). 2 Use the FOCUS switch to choose how to control f ocu sing. 45 Using scene files The setting s according t o the variety of s hooting circumstan ces are stor ed in each p osition of scene file dial. When shooting , you can retri e ve the necessar y file instantl y using scene file dial . • P rogressive mode will not be chang ed ev en if you change the s cene f ile while re cording.
