Doing so may damage the motherboard. 1.5.2 Placement direction When installing the motherboard, make sure that you place it into the chassis in the correct orientation. The edge with external ports goes to the rear part of the chassis as indicated in the image below .

1-14 Chapter 1: Product introduction 1.8.4 AGP slot The Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) slot that supports AGP 8X/4X (+1.5V) cards. When you buy an AGP card, make sure that you ask for one with +1.5V specification. Note the notches on the card golden fingers to ensure that they fit the AGP slot on the motherboard.

1-16 Chapter 1: Product introduction 3. Keyboard power (3-pin KBPWR1) This jumper allows you to enable or disable the keyboard wake-up feature. Set this jumper to pins 2-3 (+5VSB) if you wish to wake up the computer when you press a key on the keyboard (the default is the Space Bar).

1-18 Chapter 1: Product introduction 2. Floppy disk drive connector (34-1 pin FLOPPY) This connector supports the provided floppy drive ribbon cable. After connecting one end to the motherboard, connect the other end to the floppy drive. (Pin 5 is removed to prevent incorrect insertion when using ribbon cables with pin 5 plug).
ASUS P4S800-MX SE motherboard 1-19 3. Serial A T A connectors (7-pin SA T A1, SA T A2) These next generation connectors support the thin Serial A T A cables for primary internal storage devices. The current Serial A T A interface allows up to 150 MB/s data transfer rate, faster than the standard parallel A T A with 133MB/s (Ultra A T A/133).
1-20 Chapter 1: Product introduction 4. A TX power connectors (20-pin A TXPWR, 4-pin A TX12V) These connectors connect to an A TX 12V power supply . The plugs from the power supply are designed to fit these connectors in only one orientation. Find the proper orientation and push down firmly until the connectors completely fit.
ASUS P4S800-MX SE motherboard 1-21 6. CPU fan connector (3-pin CPU_F AN1) The CPU fan connector support cooling fans of 350mA~740mA (8.88W max.) or a total of 1A~2.22A (26.64W max.) at +12V . Connect the fan cable to the fan connector on the motherboard, making sure that the black wire of each cable matches the ground pin of the connector .
1-22 Chapter 1: Product introduction 7. USB headers (10-1 pin USB56, USB78) If the USB ports on the rear panel are inadequate, a USB header is available for additional USB ports. Connect the USB cable of an optional USB 2.0 module to this header . Y ou may install the USB module in the chassis front panel.
ASUS P4S800-MX SE motherboard 1-23 10. GAME/MIDI connector (16-1 pin GAME1) This connector supports a GAME/MIDI module. Connect the GAME/MIDI cable with yellow connector to the yellow header onboard. The GAME/MIDI port on the module connects a joystick or a game pad for playing games, and MIDI devices for playing or editing audio files.

2-2 Chapter 2: BIOS information 2. 1 Managing and updating your BIOS The following utilities allow you to manage and update the motherboard Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) setup. 1. AFUDOS (Updates the BIOS in DOS mode using a bootable floppy disk.) 2.
ASUS P4S800-MX SE motherboard 2-3 2. The utility will copy the current system BIOS by default to the floppy disk. Make sure that the floppy disk is not write-protected and have enough space (at least 600KB) to store the file. The BIOS information on the screen is for reference only .

ASUS P4S800-MX SE motherboard 2-5 2.1.4 Using ASUS EZ Flash to update the BIOS The ASUS EZ Flash feature allows you to easily update the BIOS without having to go through the long process of booting from a floppy disk and using a DOS-based utility .
2-6 Chapter 2: BIOS information 2.1.5 ASUS CrashFree BIOS 2 utility The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 2 is an auto recovery tool that allows you to restore the BIOS file when it fails or gets corrupted during the updating process. Y ou can update a corrupted BIOS file using the motherboard support CD or the floppy disk that contains the updated BIOS file.

2-8 Chapter 2: BIOS information Installing ASUS Update To install ASUS Update: 1. Place the support CD in the optical drive. The Drivers menu appears. 2. Click the Utilities tab, then click Install ASUS Update VX.XX.XX . See page 5- 3 for the Utilities screen menu.

2-24 Chapter 2: BIOS information 2.4.6 USB Configuration The items in this menu allows you to change the USB-related features. Select an item then press Enter to display the configuration options. OnBoard SiS USB 1.1 Device [Enabled] Allows you to enable or disable the onboard SiS USB 1.

Select an item then press Enter to display the configuration options. 2.5.1 Suspend Mode [Auto] Allows you to select the ACPI state to be used for system suspend.
2-26 Chapter 2: BIOS information 2.5.4 APM Configuration Power Button Mode [On/Off] Allows the system to go into On/Off mode or suspend mode when the power button is pressed. Configuration options: [On/Off] [Suspend] Restore on AC Power Loss [Always OFF] When set to Power Off, the system goes into of f state after an AC power loss.

2-32 Chapter 2: BIOS information Exit & Discard Changes Select this option only if you do not want to save the changes that you made to the Setup program. If you made changes to fields other than system date, system time, and password, the BIOS asks for a confirmation before exiting.

3-2 Chapter 3: Software support 3. 1 Install an oper ating system This motherboard supports Windows ® 98SE/ME/2000/XP operating system (OS). Always install the latest OS version and corresponding updates so you can maximize the features of your hardware.

3-6 Chapter 3: Software support 3.3.2 SIS RAID configurations The motherboard includes a high performance Serial A T A RAID controller integrated in the SIS 964 southbridge chipset. It supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 with two independent Serial A T A channels.

If you selected 2 , select the array block size by pressing the corresponding number beside the available block sizes then press <Enter> .
3-10 Chapter 3: Software support 6. After selecting the drives, press <Q> to return to previous menu. 7. Press <N> then <Enter> to create a Stripe only configuration. Press <Y> if you wish to split the data on the source disk to other disks.

Use the support CD that came with the motherboard package to create a RAID driver disk.
