Dealing with Problems (Summary) 46 Troubleshooting The computer does not power of f (Windows does not shut down) z If a periph eral is conn ected, discon nect it, and then shut down. If it is possible to shut down when th e peripheral is di sconnected, then there may be a p roblem wi th the per ipheral.
47 Troubleshooting Problems with Display Screen is too dark or becomes darker z Press the Fn + F2 key . This makes the screen lighter . z If the screen becomes darker af ter disconnecting the AC adaptor: The computer has dif ferent set brightne ss levels for when the AC adaptor is connected and for when it is not connecte d.
Dealing with Problems (Summary) 48 Troubleshooting Nothing appears on the external dis- play , or the display is not correct z Check that the external display cabl es are correctly connected. z Check that the external display is turned on. z Check that the external display settings are co rrect.
49 Troubleshooting Problems with Battery The battery indicator is lights red z The battery level is very low (the charge is approx. 9% or less). z Connect the AC adaptor . Y ou can use the co mputer when the in dicator light is orange. If you do not have an AC adaptor , save your data and power off your computer .
50 Troubleshooting Reinstalling Software What is “Reinst allation”? Reinstallation refers to formatting the hard disk, and reinstalling Windows. When is “Reinst allation” necessary? z When Windows does not start up, or when Windows op eration is unstable an d can- not be recover ed.
51 Troubleshooting 1 Connect the AC adaptor . Do not inte rrupt the reinstallation proc edure be fore comp letion, for e xample by turning off the comput er or pres sing the Ctrl + Alt + Del key , as this may prevent Windows from sta rting up, or may cause data to be lost so t hat the reinst allation procedure ca nnot be executed.
Reinstalling Software 52 Troubleshooting <When the hard disk backu p function has been enabled> When the messag e [The Backup function has been enabled. If [Recover y] or [Erase HDD] is executed, the Bac kup function will be disabled, and y our Backup data will be lo st.
53 Troubleshooting E The message "[Recovery] is complete" will be displayed. Remove the Prod- uct Recovery DVD-ROM, and press any ke y to shut down the computer. 4 Return the Setup Utility setti ngs to their default values. Return the Setup Utilit y to its settings at the ti me of purchase to ensure proper setup of Windows.

56 Importa nt Information Hard Disk Backup Function The hard disk backup function creates a ba ckup area ( storage area) on t he hard dis k. This area is to back up (store ) hard disk content s or restore backed up content s to their original locations.
57 Important Information • Requires availability of at leas t half of the entire hard disk. Without sufficient space a vailable, the backup ar ea cannot be created. • When the backup area is created, th e usable hard disk capacity will be reduced to less than half.
