SETTING UP 9 1 CHAPT ER T op view Inserting the SIM card and bat ter y Y our SIM card cont ains account information suc h as your phone number and voicemail access number . T o use the phone, email, or web f eat ures, the SIM card must be inserted in your smartphone.
SETTING UP 10 1 CHAPT ER 4 Align the notc h on the SIM card with the notc h in the SIM tra y . Insert the notc hed end of the SIM card into the SIM tray , and then press the other end of the card until it falls into place. 5 Slide the SIM tray bac k into the slot inside the smartphone.

Charge it ov ernight. The bat ter y has a muc h longer useful lif e when it is topped of f frequently , rather than c harging it af ter it is fully drained.

SETTING UP 23 1 CHAPT ER S ync hronizing inf ormation—the basics Sync hronizing means that info you enter or c hange in one place (your smartphone or your computer) is automatically entered or c hanged in the other; so there’ s no need to enter the info twice.

CHAPTER 3 Y our phone The Phone application is your home base for making and receiving calls and for storing inf o about the people you need to st ay in touc h with. Y ou can creatively manage multiple calls, such as sw apping between calls, sending te xt messages to ignored calls, and creating conf erence calls with up to fiv e callers.

YOUR PHONE 41 3 CHAPT ER T urning y our T reo 680 on and of f NO TE Throughout this guide w e use the term smartphone to describe your de vice and its physical aspec ts. We use the term phone to describe the f eat ure of your T reo that lets you connect to y our wireless ser vice provider network to make and receive calls and transmit data.
YOUR PHONE 42 3 CHAPT ER T ur ning y our phone on and of f When your phone is on, it is connected to your wireless service provider’ s net work (provided y ou are in a cov erage area) so that you can mak e and receive phone calls and use wireless ser vices, such as email, messaging, and the web browser .
YOUR PHONE 43 3 CHAPT ER Making calls There are se veral wa ys to make a ca ll. T ry them all to find out whic h wa y y ou like best. Dialing us ing the onscreen Dial Pad 1 Press Phone . 2 Select the Dial Pad tab . 3 Enter the phone number by tapping the onscreen Dial Pad wi th the stylus.

YOUR PHONE 46 3 CHAPT ER Dialing fr om a web pa ge or messag e Y our T reo recognizes most phone numbers that appear on web pages or in text, email, or multimedia messages. 1 Select the phone number on the web page or in the message. 2 Press Cent er to open the Dial Number dialog box.
YOUR PHONE 47 3 CHAPT ER R eceiving calls T o receive calls, your phone must be on. This is dif ferent from ha ving only the screen turned on (see T urning your phone on and of f ). When your phone is of f , your calls go to voicemail. T o answer a call, do one of the follo wing: • Press Send .
YOUR PHONE 48 3 CHAPT ER T o ignore a call, do one of the following: Send the call to v oicemail: Pre ss Po w e r / End or select Ignore . Send the caller a text messag e: Select Ignore wit h T ext . This option sends the call to voicemail and opens a text message addressed to the caller .
YOUR PHONE 49 3 CHAPT ER V oicemail notifica tion When you ha ve a ne w v oicemail message, you are notified with an Alert dialog bo x. • T o dismiss the Alert dialog box, select OK .
YOUR PHONE 50 3 CHAPT ER What can I do when I’m on a call? When you make or receiv e a call, Activ e Call Vie w appears. Use the 5-way or stylus to select the onscreen but tons. Here ’ s what the buttons do: 0 TIP If the screen dims during a call, press any ke y ex cept Send or Po wer/End to restore the screen brightness.
YOUR PHONE 51 3 CHAPT ER Ending a call Do one of the following: • Press P ower/End . • Press the but ton on the headset (if the headset is at tac hed).

Y ou c an get to this info from the Phone application, to dial phone numbers and create fav o rites, and from the Messaging and email applications, to send messages.

YOUR PHONE 66 3 CHAPT ER Connecting t o a Bluet ooth hands-fr ee device Once you set up a partnership with a Bluetooth hands-free device, you can communicate with that device whenev er it is turned on and with in range. Bluetooth range is up to 30 f eet in optimum environmental conditions.
