11 BASIC O PERA TION Imp o rt an t: To prevent hearing dam - age, set the volume t o its mini mum lev- el before turnin g on the syst em ( see “Setting the Sound”). USING THE REMOT E CONTROL The remote cont rol communicates wit h your system through a rem ote sensor located on the left of th e s yst em’s dis- play.
12 Each time you increas e or decrea se th e volume, the curre nt volume se tting, measured in decibel s (dB), appears on the display. You can adjust the volume anywhere from –68 dB (low) t o 0 dB (high).
13 SETTI NG T HE ON/OFF TI MER You can set the Sy stem 734 to auto- matically turn i tself on, play the last se- lected radio station, CD, or cassette tape, then turn itself off again.

18 CD CHANGER OPE RA T ION The Syst em 734 l ets you load up to three CDs at once and gives you many options to control the order i n which the CDs play. LOADING AND PLA YING A CD 1. Repeatedly press FUNCTION until appears n ex t to CD on the dis- play .
19 T o play a dif ferent CD, repeatedly press DISC SKIP until t he desired disc number appears on the dis- play . The select ed dIS C num ber flashes on the CD changer , 1 (the track number) and appear , then the CD beg ins to play and its elapsed play t ime appears on the display .
20 T o stop the CD chan ger at any time during play , press STOP . Th e selected CD’s total number of tracks and p laying time ap pear . Loading /Unloading CDs During Play The System 734’s rotating 3-disc CD changer lets you load a nd unload up to two CDs while a third CD is playing.
21 Au dible Sear ch To searc h forward or backw ard during play, press and ho ld down SKIP/ SEARCH >> or << . T he CD rapidly advances, and you hear the tracks at a high speed and low vol ume. Relea se SKIP/SEARCH >> or << to resum e normal play.
22 INTRO S canning The IN TRO (in troduction) scanning feature lets you review t he first 10 sec- onds of each track o n all loaded CDs. To use the IN TRO sca nning feature, simpl y pr ess I NTRO SCAN .
23 Cue To select a track before you begin play or after press ing PL A Y/P AUSE to pause the current CD, press SKIP/SEARCH >> or << until the de sired track num - ber appears on the displ ay.
24 4. T o store t he s elected trac k, press PROGRAM again. The m emory position number auto matically increases by 1 t o indicate it is ready to st ore the next track. For example, after you pres s PRO- GRAM to store the trac k in P-01 , P-02 au tomatically appears.
25 • T o resume regular or random play after s toring a program med sequence, you mus t f i rst erase t he programme d sequenc e (see “Eras- ing a Programmed S equence”). Rev iewi ng a P rog ramm ed Seq uence To review a programm ed seq uence, while play is stopped, repeat edly press PROGRAM .
26 CD AND CD CHANG ER CARE TIPS Although a CD is very durabl e, you should handle it wit h care. We recom- mend the following precautions. • Keep the CD in its protective case or sleeve when y ou are not play- ing it. • Keep the CD clean. Y our local Radio Shack store sells a suitable CD cleaner kit.
27 CASSETTE DECK OPERA TION The Syste m 734 has a dual cass ette deck system whi ch lets you automati- cally play one side o f two cass ette t a pes c o ns ec ut i ve ly , re c or d f ro m t h e CD changer, record one c asset te tape onto another, and more.
28 2. Press PLA Y . The t ape begi ns to play . Notes: • T o briefly stop the tape during playback, p ress P AUSE . T he button locks and the tape stops. Pr ess P AUSE agai n to continue playback. • T o rapi dl y fast-forward or rewind a cas sette tape in either deck while the tape is s topped, press FA S T - F (fast-forward) or REWIND .

30 4. Press RECORD on T A PE 1 a n d PLA Y/P AUSE on the CD changer at the same time to begi n record- ing. disap pears, appears along with the CD’s elapsed pl ay ti me, PLA Y locks dow n alo n g with RECORD , and t he tape begins recording.
31 4. Press RECORD , then P AUSE on T APE 1. PLA Y automatically locks down. 5. T o record at one and a half t imes the normal spe ed, press HIGH SPEED . HI-DU BB appears on the display . T o set it back to normal speed, press HIGH SPEED aga in. HI-D UB B disappears.

You can also set it to au tomat- ically turn on at a preset ti me an d begin recording fro m the radi o. 1. Press BAND t o s e l e c t A M o r F M , then tune to the desired station.
33 T APE TIPS Era sing a C assett e T ape To record o ver a cassette tape, simply record over the previ ous recording. To erase the ent ire cassette tape, se lect a function with no au dio (such as CD wi th no CD playing) and let the tape record to the end.
34 USING AN ADDITIONAL AUDIO SOURCE If you connected a n add it i onal audio source, such as a TV, VCR, t urnta ble, or an external CD chang er or cassette deck (see “Connecting an Ad ditional Audio Source”), you can use your Sy s- tem 734 to l isten to or record from that source.
