3 FEATURES Your Optimus CDG Karaoke System is one of the most versatile karaoke sys- tems available . It lets you be the “star” as you sing alon g with your favorite re- cordings on a CD, a CDG (a compact disc with a graph ic track), a cassette tape, or a video t ape, and hear you r voice with the music t hrough the power- ful built-in speaker.

8 CONNECTING OTHER A UDIO COMPONENTS You can connect an external aud io source or component to the ka raoke system, so you can sing al ong with othe r audio formats or videos, or hea r the karaoke’s so und from anoth er speaker or a PA system . To make the c onnec- tion, you need optional audio patch ca- bles (such as Cat.
9 CONNECTING TO A TV You can connect th e CD/CDG karaoke system to a TV or monit or and see the words and images produce d by a spe- cial karaoke video cassette or CD/C DG. Plug one end of th e supplied cable into VIDEO OUT and th e other end in to your TV’s video in jack.
10 SINGING ALONG/QUIC K STAR T The instructions in this section provide a quick reference to help you get started singing along with your karaoke CD/ CDG system. SINGING WITH A CD/CDG OR A CASSETTE T APE Follow these steps to sing along with a CD/CDG or a cassette tape (such as those supplied ).
11 6. Adjust the sound with MASTER VO L - UME . See “Adjusting th e Sound” on P age 12. 7. Set each conn ected microphone’ s ON/OFF s witch to ON . Sing directly into the microph one along with th e music . 8. Use MIC V OL 1 and/or MIC V OL 2 to adjust the volume of each micro- phone .
12 SYSTEM OPERATION ADJUSTING THE SOUND Use these cont rols to get the syste m’s sound just right. MASTER VOLUME — Control the vol- ume of the syst em’s speaker b y turning MASTER V OLUME toward MIN or MAX . The volume remains set un til you read- just it.
13 CD/CDG PLA Y ER OPERATION PLA YING A CD/CDG 1. Press PO WER to tur n on the syste m. The PO WER indicator lights. 2. Set FUNCTION SELECT OR to CD/ CDG. 3. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the CD/ CDG compar tment. 4. Place a C D/CDG in the compar t- ment tr a y label side up .
14 A udible Searc h Note: Audible search doe s not work on CDGs. Hold down SEARCH/SKIP ( l ) or ( l ) to search ra pidly forward or back- ward during play. The CD plays rapid ly, and you hear th e sound at a high speed and low volume. Release the butto n to resume normal play.
15 Notes : • T o replay the current track, press SEARCH/SKIP ( l ). • T o play the ne xt random trac k, press SEARCH/SKIP ( l ). To stop the CD p layer at any time du ring random play , press ST OP . The CD/ CDG’s total number of tracks and play- ing time appea r.

17 CASSETTE DEC K OPERATION You can play a cassette t ape in either cassette deck, and you can record tapes in TAPE 1. LOADING A T APE 1. T ake up any slac k in the tape by tur ning the c assette’ s hub with a pencil or y our finger . If y ou do not remov e excess slac k, the tape might become tangled in t he record/pla y- bac k mechanism.
18 Turn the t ape over and press PLA Y to play the other sid e. Notes: • T o temporar ily stop play , pres s P A USE . Press P A USE again to resume pla y . • T o rapidly wind the tap e f orw ard or bac kward, press FA S T - F or REWIND . Press ST OP/EJECT when you reach the desired section.
19 T APE CARE TIPS Preventing Accidental Erasure Most casset te tapes ha ve two er ase- protection ta bs — one for each side. To protect a recording from acc identally b e- ing recorded over or erased, use a screwdriver to remove one or both of the cassette tape’s erase-pr otection tabs.
20 4. Use a cotton s wab dipped in dena - tured alcoho l or tape head clea ning solution to clean the record/pla y heads, pinch rollers, capstans, tape guides , and era s e heads . 5. When you finish cleanin g, press ST OP/EJECT on T APE 1 and T APE 2 and close the cassette com- par tment doors.
21 USING OPTIONAL COMPONENTS Warning: To protect your hearing and prevent dam age to the ka raoke system , an audio source and/or an audio compo- nent, always set their volume controls to the lowest setting s before turn ing them on.
22 RECOR DING A CASSETTE T APE You can become a recording st ar! The system lets you record your voice on a blank or reusable t ape as you sing along with a special karaoke cassette tape, video tape, CD/CDG or other audio source. You can also record f rom an ex- ternal audio source, or dub from one cassette tape to anot her.
23 DUBBING A CASSETTE TA P E You can copy any cassette tape on the karaoke system’s dual cassette decks using a sour ce tape with the music or sound you want to copy and a blank or reusable ta pe to reco rd on. Follow these steps to copy fr om one cassette tape to anot her.
