5 INSTALLAT ION BEFORE Y OU BEGIN THE INSTALL ATION Before you install your stereo, read all the instructions in this owner’s manua l. You s hould be able to an- swer a ll of these questions about y.
6 Imp ort an t : Do not cut t hese w ires. If you cut any wire, you cannot obtain a refund o r exchange on this prod uct. However, your local RadioShack store w ill provide warrant y service if you cut a wire and find the product is defective.
7 Using an Adapter Harne ss If yo u ar e r epla cin g an exi sti ng stereo, or if your vehicle has been factory-wired fo r autosound com po- nents, you might be ab le to us e an adapte r harness to connect the pow- er and speakers. RadioSh ack stores sell adapter harnesses for most ve- hicles.

Cut the loo p at the end of t he blue/whit e AMP REMOTE TURN ON wire, str ip about 1 / 2 inch o f insulat ion from its end, then c on- nect it to any op tional equip- ment , designed to run from a switched sou rce, that you wa nt the stereo to t u rn on and off (such as a booste r or a power antenn a).
10 T ESTING THE CONNECTIO NS Turn on your v ehic le’s ignition an d install your stereo’s faceplate (se e “Installing the F acepla te” o n Page 13). The s tereo’s d isplay lights and the last st ation you tuned ap- pears a fter about 5 s econds.
11 5. Insert the sleeve i nto the dash and bend out all the side tabs with a screwdriver to secure the sleev e. 6. Recon nect the wire h arness and the antenna.
12 REMOVING THE STEREO FROM T HE DASH If you ever want to remove the stereo from the dash, follow these steps. 1. Disconnect th e cable from your vehicle’s negative ( – ) battery ter- minal. 2. If you secured the stereo to an existing mount ing hole un der the dash, slid e out the s tereo to fre e the mount ing bo lt f rom th e mounting hole.
13 USING T HE FAC EPL AT E The stereo ’s faceplate must be in place f or the stereo t o operate. When you remove it , the displ ay turns off and t he stereo can not be u sed. This is a simple but effective security measure. Any sto red stations rem ain in memo- ry when the faceplate is removed.
14 BASIC O P ERA TION T URNING T HE STEREO ON A ND OFF To turn on the stereo, turn PWR./ VOL. clockwi se until i t cl icks. To turn off the s tereo, t urn PWR. /VO L. co un- terclo ck wi se unt il it c lic ks. SETTI NG T HE CLOCK Note : Y ou can set the clo ck only when the vehicle’s ignition is turned on or set t o ACC.
15 BALANCE — rotate to adjust the bal- ance between the right and left spea kers. TO N E — rot ate to increase or de- crease high sounds. BAND — press t o select the desired band a nd m emory gro up.
16 RADIO OPERATION PLAYING THE RADIO 1. If the stereo is off, turn PWR./ VOL. clockwi se until i t cli cks to turn it on. T he radio au tomati- cally tunes to the last station sele cted. 2. Press BAND to sel ect the desired band. AM 1 or AM 2 appears when an AM band is sele cted.
17 Automat ically Storing Sta tio ns 1. Repeatedly press BAND u n til th e stereo displays the band and memory group where you want to store a group of stations . For example, to store t he first group of AM stations into AM 1, press BAND un til AM 1 appea rs.
18 Selec t ing a St ored Station To select a station, repeat edly press BAND to select the desired mem ory group, then pres s the desired m emo- ry l ocation button. Note : Do not hold down t he m em ory location button. This stores t he cur- rently tuned station in to that location.
19 CA SSETT E PL A Y ER OP ERA TI ON PLA Y I NG A CASSETTE Caution: Avoid using C-120 cas- sette tapes. They are very thin and can easily b ecome ta ngled in the tape-han dling parts. Follow t hese steps t o play a cas sette tape. 1. T ake up a ny s lack by turning t he cassette’s h ub wit h your finger or a pencil.
20 Fast- F orwa rd and Rewin d To fast-forward or rewind the current side, press or dependi ng o n which side o f the tape is pla ying. Th e ta pe quickl y winds.

22 CLEANING THE T APE- HANDLING P ARTS Clean the tape hea d after about ev- ery 2 0 hours of playing time. Insert a special head-c leaning cas sette (such as Cat.
