INSTALLATION 7 Connection to a TV DVI or HDMI Connection • If your TV has a DVI input, you can use the included DVI cable to connect the DVD player to the TV. This is the most preferred connection me thod since it delivers video in pure digital format.
INSTALLATION 8 Other Connection Options Video Connection Depending on the input available on your TV, select one of the following methods to co nnect the video output of the DVD player to your TV. The video connections are listed in desce nding order of video quality.
INSTALLATION 9 NOTES • When using the componen t, S-Video or composite video connection, the video signal is n ot processed with the built-in Gene sis/Faroudj a video processor. Vid eo output via these connections is standard definition interla ced video.
INSTALLATION 10 Connection to an Audio System Connection to a Stereo or Surround Audio System • If the audio system does not have surround speakers, please set the down-mix mode to “Stereo” or “V. SURR”. • If the audio system has surround spe akers and Dolby Pro Logic Surroun d support, please set the down-mix mode to “LT/RT”.

INSTALLATION 12 Connection to a Receiver/Amplif ier with 5.1c h Audio Input • Please set the audio down-mix mode of the DVD play er to “5.1 CH”. (Refer to page 28 for details.) • Please set the speaker size and distan ce in t he “Speaker Setup” page of the DVD player’ s setup menu.
13 B ASIC OPERA TIONS Disc Playback 1 . Press the POWER button to turn on the DVD player. 2 . Press the OPEN/CLOSE (EJECT) butto n to eject the disc tray. 3 . Place the disc with the label side facing up and the record side facing down. 4 . Press the OPEN/CLOSE (EJECT) butto n again to retract the tray.
BASIC OPERATIONS 14 D VD Menu Playbac k 1. Some DVD discs contain title menu or chapter me nu functions. 2. Press the MENU button on the remote control to display the menu on the TV screen.
BASIC OPERATIONS 15 Audio T one Control The KEY b/# buttons on the DVD remote control is provided for adjusting audio tone (key). This feat ure is useful for playing Karaoke discs. You can adjust the audio tone to match the singer’s voice. • Press the KEY b button to lower the tone.
BASIC OPERATIONS 16 Subtitle Selection When playing DVD discs or DivX program s recorde d with subtitles, press the SUBTITLE button on the remote control to select the desi red subtitle. Each press of SUBTITLE b utton switches one avail able subtitle in a l ooping manner: NOTES Availability of subtitle depends on discs and contents.

18 AD V ANCED OPERA TIONS TV System Selection Set the video output system (NTSC/PAL) to t he same as that supported by your TV. The default output i s NTSC for North Ame rica. Press the P/N button on t he remote control to cycle the video output to PAL, NTSC or AUTO syst em.
ADVANCED OPERATIONS 19 • In case you are not able to get a display usin g the DVI output, please connect the DVD player to the TV using either the composite video or S-Video cable, and th en use the setup menu to adjust the DVD player settings. ADVANCED OPERATIONS 20 R epeat the Selected Section To repeatedly play a specified se ction, pl ease follow these steps: 1. During normal playback, pres s the A-B b utton on the remote at the desired beginning point (Point A) for the repeat play.

ADVANCED OPERATIONS 23 P o wer Spectr um Meter (PSM) The Power Spectrum Meter is a graphical displ ay of the audio signal. It can be used to assist adjusting sound field a nd equalization pattern setting. Press the PSM button on the remote to show the Power Spectrum Mete r during playback.

26 SETUP MENU OPTIONS The SETUP menu of the DVD player presents many setup and configurat ion op tions. For most users, the default configuration works we ll enough and there is no ne ed to change the settings.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 27 Gener al Setup P age 1. TV Display : To set the aspect ratio of the player’s o utput image to match your TV. The options are : • Normal/PS – 4:3 TV Pan and Scan. Choose when the display is 4:3. Both sides of widescreen image a re clipped.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 28 6. DVD-Audio Mode: To select whi ch portion of a hybrid DVD-Audio disc to playback. The options are: • DVD-Audio – Play the DVD-Audio po rtion of the disc with surround audio • DVD-Video – Play the DVD-Video portion of the disc with Dolby Digital or DTS audio 7.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 29 • Small – Choose if the center speaker i s small. Bass frequencies a re not passed to the center speaker to reduce possible disto rtion. • Off – Choose if there is no cente r speaker. 4. Rear Speaker: To set the sound filtering control for the rea r speakers.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 30 Audio Setup Page 1. SPDIF Output: To set the bit stream type of the digital audio output. The options are: • RAW – Passes the encod ed multi-channel digital audio unaltered. Choo se this setting if your receiver/amplifier is capable of de coding Dolby Digital and DTS.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 31 E. Center Width : To control the width of the center channel sound effect by blendi ng the center speaker to the left and right speakers. As the level number increa ses, the center channel sound moves toward the left an d right speakers.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 32 • Medium – Medium edge enhancement. Video details are sh arper but it may cause slight white line etching around object s. • Low – Low edge enhance ment. This setting produces slightly sharpened vide o details. • Off – Turn off edge enhancement co mpletely.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 33 The Preference Page can only be acce ssed when play back is completely stopped, or wh en there is no disc in the DVD player. 1. TV Type: To set the output video system (PAL/NTSC) to match the type of TV. The options are: • Auto – No system conversion is performed.
