14 En Connections Connecting the A V Receiver ■ SKF-780 Before you connect the spea kers, attach the supplied speaker base to each SKF-780. 1. T urn the speaker upside do wn with the protection cov er attached. 2. Align the speake r base while the arro w mark is headed in the same direction as the spea ker’ s face.
15 En ■ SKC-780 Cautio n • A mounting scre w’ s ability to support a speaker depends on ho w well it’ s anchored to the wall. If you have hollo w walls, scre w each mounting screw into a stud. If there are no studs, or the walls are soli d, use suitable wall anchors.
16 En Speaker Configur ation The follo wing table indicate s the channels you should use depending on the number of speakers that you hav e. For 7.1-channel surround-sound playback, you need 7 speakers and a po wered subwoofer . *1 If you’re using only one su rro und back speaker , connect it to the SURR BA CK OR FRONT HIGH L terminals.
17 En Connecting th e Speaker Cabl es Scr ew-type speaker te rminals Using Banana Pl ugs • If you are using banana plugs, tighten the speak er terminal before inserting the banana plug. • Do not insert the speaker code directly in to the center hole of the speaker terminal.
18 En Connected image with A V components • Before making any A V connections, read the manuals supplied with your A V components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve co mpleted and double-checke d all A V connections. • Push plugs in all the way to ma k e good connections (loo se connections can cause noise or malfunc- tions).
19 En Connect your components to the appropriate jacks. The default inp ut assignments are shown belo w . ✔ : Assignment can be changed ( ➔ 39 ). Refer to “ About HDMI” ( ➔ 72 ) and “Using an RIHD-compatibl e TV , Player , or Reco rder” ( ➔ 73 ).
20 En Connect your components to the appropriate jack s. The default input assi gnments are shown belo w . ✔ : Assignment can be changed ( ➔ 40 ). Note *1 Connect a turntable (MM) that has a phono preamp built-in. If your turntable (MM) doesn’t have it, you’ ll need a commercially av ailable phono preamp.
21 En Wi t h u (Remote Interacti ve), you can use the follo wing special functions: ■ System On/A uto Po wer On When you start playback on a component connected via u while the A V receiv er is on Standby , the A V recei ver will autom atically turn on and select tha t com- ponent as the input source.
22 En This section explains ho w to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop antenna. The A V receiv er won’t pick up an y radio signals without an y antenna connected, so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
23 En The A V recei ver supports se veral conn ection formats for comp at ibility with a wide range of A V equipment. The format you choose will depend on the formats supported b y your components.
24 En T ur ning On & Basic Operations T urning On/Off the A V Receiver T urning On Press ON/ST ANDBY on the front panel. or Press RECEIVER follo wed by ON/ST ANDBY on the r emote contr oller . The A V receiver comes on, the display lights, and the ST ANDBY indicator goes off.

28 En W ith the supplied calibrated microphone, Audyssey 2EQ automatically determines the number of speak e rs con- nected, their size for purposes of bass management, opti- mum crossov er frequencies to the subwoofer (if present), and distances from the pr imary li sten ing position.
29 En Note • When Audys sey 2EQ Room Correction and Spea ker Setup is complete, the “ Equalizer ” will be set to “ A udyssey ” ( ➔ 42 ). The A udyssey indicator will light ( ➔ 9 ). • Y ou can cancel Audyssey 2EQ Room Correc tion and Speaker Setup at any point in this procedur e simply by disconnecting the setup microphone.
30 En Listening to the Radio W ith the built-in tuner you can enjoy AM and FM radio stations. Y ou can store your fa vo rite stations as presets for quick selection.
31 En Y ou can store a combination of up to 40 of your fav orite FM/AM radio stations as presets. Note • Y ou can name your radio presets for easy identification ( ➔ 45 ).

The “ Sp Conf ig ” ( presence of speakers), “ Sp Distance ” and “ A/V Sync ” settings are enabled, but much of the pr ocessing set via AUDIO is disabled.

39 En Explanatory Notes Main Menu Input/Output Assign Monitor Out Y ou can specify the output resolution for the HDMI OUT and hav e the A V recei ver upcon vert the picture resolution as necessary to match the resolution supported b y your TV .
40 En Component Video Input If you connect a video component to a component video input, you must assign that input to an inpu t selector . For example, if you connect your Blu-ray Disc/D VD player to COMPONENT VIDEO IN 2 , you must assign “ IN2 ” to the “ BD/D VD ” input selector .
41 En Speaker Confi guration W ith these settings, you can specify which spea kers are connected and a crossov er frequency for each speake r . Specify “ Full Band ” for speak ers that can output low fre- quency b ass sounds adequately , for e xample, speakers with a good sized woofer .
42 En Level Calibra tion Here you can adjust the le vel of each speaker with the bui lt-in test tone so that the v olume of each speak er is the same at the listening position. ■ Left, Front High Left, Center *1 , Front High Right, Right, Surr Right, Surr Ba ck Right, Surr Back Left, Surr Left ` –12dB to 0dB to +12dB in 1 dB step.
43 En Dimen sion ` –3 to 0 to +3 W ith this setting, you can move the sound f i eld forward or backward when using the Dolb y Pro Logic IIx Music listening mode.
44 En Items can be set individuall y for each input selector . Main menu Source Setup A udyssey When Audyssey 2EQ ® Room Correction and Speaker Setup is complete, the “ Equalizer ” setting ( ➔ 42 ) will be set to “ Au d y s s e y ” and the “ Dynamic EQ ” will be set to “ On ”.
45 En IntelliV olume ■ IntelliV olume ` –12dB to 0dB to +12dB in 1 dB steps. W ith IntelliV olume, you can set the input le vel for each input selector individually . This is useful if one of your source components is louder or quieter than the others.
46 En T o corr ect a character: Note • T o name a radio preset, use TUNER to select AM or FM, and then select the preset ( ➔ 31 ). T o rest ore a custom name to the default, erase the custom name b y entering an empty white spac e for each letter .

48 En Main menu Miscellaneous V olume Setup ■ Maximum V ol ume ` Off , 30 to 79 W ith this setting, you ca n limit the maximum v ol- ume. T o disable this setting, select “ Off ”.
49 En HDMI ■ Audio TV Out ` Off : The audio is not output from the HDMI output. ` On : The audio is output from the HDMI output. This preference determines whether the incoming audio signal is output from the HDMI OUT .
50 En Note •T h e “ Power Contr ol ” setting can be set only when the “ HDMI Contr ol (RIHD) ” setting is set to “ On ”. • HDMI power control only works with p -compatible components that support it and may not work properly with some components due to th eir settings or compatibility .
51 En Speaker Levels Y ou can adjust the volume of each spe aker while listening to an input source. These temporary adj ustments ar e cancell ed when the A V receiv er is set to Standby . T o sav e the setting you made here, go to “Le vel Calibration” ( ➔ 42 ) before setting the A V receiv er to Standby .
52 En A udio Selector Y ou can set priorities of audio output when there are both digital and analog inputs. ■ A udio Selector ` ARC : The audio signal from your TV tuner can be sent to the HDMI OUT of the A V receiver. *1 W ith thi s selection the TV’ s audio can be automati- cally selected as a priori ty among other assignments.
53 En Zone 2 In addition to your main listeni ng room, you can also enjoy playback in the othe r room, or as we call Zone 2. And, you can select a different source for each room. There are two ways you can connect Zone 2 speakers: 1. Connect them directly to the A V receiver.
54 En If you’ ve connected your Zone 2 speakers to the A V receiv er, as explained in “C onnecting Y our Zone 2 Speak- ers Directly t o the A V receiver” ( ➔ 53 ), you must se t the “ Front High / Zone2 ” setting to “ Zone2 ”.

58 En ■ Chargin g Y our iP od models Battery The UP-A1 Dock charges your iPod models battery while your iPod is in the UP-A1 Dock and connected to the UNIVERSAL PORT jack on the A V recei ver. While your iPod is seated in the UP-A1 Dock, its battery will be charged when the A V receiver is set to “On” or “Standb y”.

60 En Contr olling Other Components Y ou can use the A V receiv er’ s remote controller (RC-764M) to control your o ther A V components, includ- ing those made by other ma nufacturers. This section explains ho w to enter the re mote control code (with the default underlined) for a component that you want to con- trol: D VD, TV , CD, etc.
61 En Y ou’ll need to enter a code for each component that you want to control. Note • The remote co ntrol code s provid ed are correct at the time of printing, but are subject to change. Onkyo components that are connected via u are con- trolled by pointing the remote controller at the A V receiv er, not the component.
62 En Yo u c a n r e s e t a REMO TE MODE to its default remote control code. Y ou can reset the remote controller to its defau lt settings. By pressing REMO TE MODE that’ s been programmed with the remote control c ode for your component, you can control your component as below .
