4 Precautions 1. Regional Restriction Codes (Region Number) Regional restriction codes are built into D VD Players and D VD-V ideo media f or each sales region. If the re gional code of the D VD Player does not match one of the regional codes on the D VD-V ideo, playback is not possible.

6 About Video CDs This D VD Player supports V ideo CDs equipped with the PBC (V ersion 2.0) function. (PBC is the abbreviation of Playback Control.) Y ou can enjoy two playback v ariations depending on the type of disc. • Video CD not equipped with PBC function (V ersion 1.
7 Handling Discs • Do not touch the playback side of the disc. • Do not attach paper or tape to discs. Cleaning Discs • Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. W ipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cloth.

9 Preparing the Remote Contr oller 1 Remove the battery compartment cover b y pressing the tab and lifting up the cover . 2 Insert the two batteries (size AAA/R3). Be sure to match the + and – ends of the batteries with the diagram inside the battery compartment.

15 Optional Video Connections V isible impr ovements in D VD-V ideo quality can be achie ved by making either S-video or component video connections to a TV or monitor compatible with these types of connections.

17 Connecting the POWER The D V -SP300 is shipped with the main po wer ( PO WER ) switch in the on position ( ON). When the po wer cord is plugged in for the first time, the D V -SP300 will automatically enter the standby mode and the ST ANDBY indicator will light (same condition after step 2 below).
18 ■ T o stop pla ybac k Press ST OP 7 . When you press PLA Y/P A USE £ / 8 to r estart playback, playback starts from the location where you stopped playback because the location index is stored in memory . Note The location where playback resumes may vary depending on the disc or the scene where you stopped.
19 Notes • Do not move the DVD Player during playback. Doing so may damage the disc. • Use 0 on the remote controller or DVD Player to open and close the disc tray . Do not touc h the disc tray while it is moving. Doing so may cause the DVD Player to malfunction.
20 Using the on-screen Banner Display The on-screen Banner Display contains many playback features. T o see the Banner Display , press ON SCREEN on the remote conroller while a disc is playing. Use 2 / 3 to mov e through the dif ferent features in the Banner Display .
21 1 2 3 DVD Selecting a Title Some discs contain more than one title. For example , there might be four movies on one disc (each mo vie might be considered a title). Press ON SCREEN. Press 2 / 3 until the TITLE icon is highlighted. Press ENTER. “ T -- ” appears.
22 Good evening! Bon soir! ¡ Buenas tardes! Changing the Subtitle Language Y ou can display subtitles on the TV screen and select a subtitle language from those included on the D VD-V ideo. Press On SCREEN during pla ybac k. Press 2 / 3 until the SUBTITLE icon is highlighted.
23 Changing the Camera Angle If the scene was recorded from multiple angles, you can easily change the camera angle of the scene you are watching. Press On SCREEN during playbac k. Press 2 / 3 until the Angle icon is highlighted. Press ENTER. The angle menu appears.
24 Using a Bookmark The bookmark feature lets you mark a point on the disc that you can go to quickly . Y ou can store up to 9 bookmarks. Marking a scene Press ON SCREEN during playbac k. Press 2 / 3 until the bookmark icon is highlighted and press ENTER.
25 Other Operations Random Play The chapters or tracks of the disc are played in random order . Press RANDOM. The random playback starts. The Random Play display appears on the screen. T o turn off the Random Play displa y Press ON SCREEN or CLEAR . The menu is switched of f when no operation is performed for about 5 seconds.
26 VCD CD DVD Other operations Repeat Pla y Desired disc or title can be played back repeatedly . There are four repeat options: • Disc Repeat the disc that is playing. • T itle Repeat the title that is playing. • Chapter Repeat the chapter that is playing.
27 1 2 Memory Edit Play The D VD Player automatically plays titles, chapters, or tracks in the order you program. Press MEMOR Y during stop mode. The MEMOR Y EDIT display appears and the MEM. indicator lights. Press 5 / ∞ or numeric b uttons to select specific title/chapter or track.
28 MP3 Function Memory window Selecting MP3 Files Y ou can select the files to be played back directly . Press 5 / ∞ to select the f older , then press ENTER.
29 MP3 Function MP3 Repeat Play Y ou can listen to the desired files repeatedly . Press REPEA T repeatedly during playbac k. Each time you press the button, playback information changes. Repeat Disc Repeats the entire disc. Repeat 1 Folder Repeats the current folder .
30 1 2 3 4 5 Making Adjustments to Setting Press MENU during stop mode. Current setup menu display appears. Press 5 / ∞ to select the item y ou want to change, then press ENTER. Press 5 / ∞ to c hange the setting, then press ENTER. Further steps may be needed depending on the item or setting.
31 Audio Language DVD This sets the language to be used when playing a disc. If a disc does not contain the selected language, it is played in the priority language set for each disc. English: T o play sound tracks in English. Spanish T o play sound tracks in Spanish.

34 Dynamic Range DVD Dynamic Range setting allo ws you to “ compress ” the dynamic range of a D VD ’ s sound tr ack, so that you can lower the v olume without losing extremely soft signals. This is especially useful when you are watching a movie late at night.
35 Digital Audio Out VCD CD DVD This sets the type of audio output from the digital audio output jack. PCM : Select when connected to a 2 channel digital stereo amplifier (see page 16). The D VD Player outputs sounds in the PCM format when you play a D VD-V ideo disc recorded on the Dolby Digital.
