The CPU that came with the mother - board should have a fan attached to it to prevent overheating. If this is not the case, then purchase a fan before you turn on your system.

Make sure that you unplug your power supply when adding or removing expansion cards or other system components. Failure to do so may cause severe damage to both your motherboard and expansion cards.

In a standard design, there are 16 IRQs available but most of them are already in use, leaving 6 IRQs free for expansion cards.
ASUS CUW -RM User ’ s Manual 29 3. HARDW ARE SETUP IMPORT ANT : If using PCI cards on shared slots, make sure that the drivers support “ Share IRQ ” or that the cards do not need IRQ assignments. Conflicts will arise between the two PCI groups that will make the system unstable or cards inoperable.

Main processing is done through software and controlled by the motherboard ’ s Intel I / O Controller Hub (ICH).

These are clearly distinguished from jumpers in 3.1 Motherboard Layout . Placing jumper caps over these connector pins will cause damage to your motherboard.

Read and write activity by devices connected to the Primary or Secondary IDE connectors will cause the LED to light up.

H/W SETUP 15) Standard and Consumer IR Connector (10-pin IR_CON) This connector supports an optional wireless transmitting and receiving infra- red module. This module mounts to a small opening on system cases that sup- port this feature.

4. BIOS SETUP 4.1 Managing and Updating Y our BIOS 4.1.1 Upon First Use of the Computer System It is recommended that you save a copy of the original motherboard BIOS along with a Flash Memory W riter utility (AFLASH.EXE) to a bootable floppy disk in case you need to reinstall the BIOS later .

V alid values for hour , minute and sec- ond are Hour: (00 to 23), Minute: (00 to 59), Second: (00 to 59) .

BIOS SETUP Chip Configuration SDRAM Configuration [By SPD] This sets the optimal timings for items 2 – 4, depending on the memory mod- ules that you are using. Default setting is [By SPD], which configures items 2 – 4 by reading the contents in the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) device.

This feature turns of f the video display and shuts down the hard disk after a period of inactivity . Power Management [User Define] This option must be enabled to use any of the automatic power saving features.

BIOS SETUP Power Up Control Wake On PS2 KB/PS2 Mouse/CIR [Disabled] Set this field to [Enabled] if you wish to use your PS2 keyboard, PS2 mouse, or Consumer IR device to power up your computer . This feature requires an A TX power supply that can supply at least 300mA on the +5VSB lead.

BIOS SETUP Boot Menu Boot Sequence The Boot menu allows you to select among the four possible types of boot devices listed using the up and down arrow keys. By using the <+> or <Space> key , you can promote devices and by using the <-> key , you can demote devices.
