10 Océ 9400 User Manual The Océ 9400 printer The Océ 9400 is a wide f ormat printing system. The machine is eq uipped with an automatic 1- or 2-roll dispenser .
Getting star ted 11 The printer operati ng panel The operating panel which is located at the right hand side of the printer consol e is eas y to use (se e figure 1).Th e pane l consi sts of buttons and a disp lay consisting of 2 lines of 16 characters each.
12 Océ 9400 User Manual Buttons Pro gram T o activ ate the program mode and to enter the top lev el menu. In this mode the user can use the and or b uttons to step through the menu. Pressing again, or if th ere is no action during 1 minute in Program mode, the machine returns to the status mo de.
Getting star ted 13 Error messa ges the printer will stop and the user has to take actio n. For example: P APER J AM . Action messages an acti on message pr ompts t he user to perfo rm an act ion before the print job is resumed. Fo r example: ‘FEED SHEET’ in case of manual f eed.
14 Océ 9400 User Manual The Océ 9400 copier The Océ 9400 is also a copier for large documents (e.g. architectural or engineering drawings). The machine is easy to use an d makes copies on paper , transparent paper , vellum and polyester f ilm with the quality and r eliability that one might expect from Océ.
Getting star ted 15 The scanner operating panel The operating panel which is located at the right hand side of the scanner is easy to use (see f igure 2).
16 Océ 9400 User Manual Stand-by mode The operating panel (see the illustration on inside back cov er) on the Océ 9400 is easy to use and specially desig ned to carry out copy jobs. After switching on the scan ner , (see page 18), the machine is always ready for operation.
Getting star ted 17 ■ Duri ng the co pying pr oces s: If you press this bu tton while an original is being fed, the copying process will stop immediately . If you want to abort a multicopy job after the scanning of the original is finished, you must abort th e copying process by pressing the ‘cancel/continue’ button on the printer .
18 Océ 9400 User Manual Switching on/of f the copier Switching on the copier consists of: ■ switchi ng on t he scanne r ■ switching on the printer (see pag e 19). After switching on the system is ready for operation. In this state, the machine is in stand-b y mode.

22 Océ 9400 User Manual Connect the printer to yo ur host en vironm ent The Océ 9400 supports sev eral types of interfaces (Serial, Cen tronics, TCP/IP , Nov ell Netware, NET BIOS, Ethertalk). T o ensure pr oper operation, please follow th e next steps when connecting your host to the Océ 9400.
Installat ion of the pri nter 23 Centronics Connection through the Centronics interface is straightforward and data transfer is fast. Y ou hav e to set one parameter , the transmission speed. Y ou can select ‘normal’ or ‘fast’. Default is ‘normal’.

52 Océ 9400 User Manual Introduction W ith the Océ 9400, you can make copies on pa per , transparent paper , vellum and polyester film, while Océ’ s Image Logic T echnology ensures optimal copy quality . Copy jobs 53 Making copies The copying process starts after pressing the ‘start’ button. Before pressing the ‘start’ button, you can change the settings.
54 Océ 9400 User Manual Default settings are used in the follo wing situations: ■ after switching on ■ after pressing stop/correct twice ■ after a time-out of 1 minute (since the end of pre vious copy job has expired). If the ‘start’ button is pressed and the printer is not busy , the original will be scanned.

Copy jobs 57 Copying using manual feed If yo u want to cop y a jo b on a pa per ty pe and/ or size th at is n ot a v ailabl e on the paper rolls, it can be con venient to manually feed sheets of paper instead of changing the paper rolls.The sheet feed is a special slot just ab ove the pape r roll drawers on the print engine.
58 Océ 9400 User Manual Attention: If you do not wait until the me ssage ‘FEED SHEET ’ appears, you may get a pap er jam, or a p rint job is using the wr ong she et of paper . Note: Manual feed time-out (see ‘Setting the time-out for manual feed’ on page 47).

Copy jobs 63 Modifying the exposure The automatic exposure setting ensures the production of background-free copies of most line dra wings. In this case the automatic background compensation is activ ated. The background is constantly measured during scanning of the original.
