About this guide 7 About this guide This User Guide provides informat ion about the Nortel Mobile Voice Client (MVC) 2050. The Nortel Mobile Voice Client (MVC ) 2050 is designed to add wireless voice communication to the Pers onal Digital Assistant (PDA).

Mobile Voice Client 2050 over view 10 PDA vendors offer two types of re char geable battery: standard and extended-life. The extended- life battery is recommended to provide longer call duration and increased call volum e. Headsets A headset is required in order to send a nd receive telephone calls using the MVC 2050 and your PDA.
Mobile Voice Client 2050 overvie w 11 MVC 2050 menus and screen features The MVC 2050 software pr ovides menus and screen features for your PDA. Table 1 lists the MVC 2050 menus and their selectio ns. The MVC 2050 supports both portrait and landscape modes.

Appearance The appearance of th e Call Handling Screen differs with each available skin.

From the drop-down list on the Profiles tab, select the profile you want to remove. See Figure 28. Note: “My Server” is a built-in profile name that cannot be deleted.

See Figure 32. To select an existing macro, tap th e down arrow in the Macro list bo x, and make your selection.

Client diagnostics Client diagnostics are used to determi ne the connection status of the MVC 2050.
Mobile Voice Client 2050 for expert users 79 Audio quality Audio quality of voice transmission depends on many factors, su ch as codec characteristics, echo cancelle r, jitter buffer size, and listener perception .
Mobile Voice Client 2050 for expert users 80 Audio delay If you expe rience audio delay, you can decrea se the numb er of buffe rs, and reduce the dela y, by adjusting the slider on the Audio screen. Audio clarity If you experience breakups in the receive audio stream, adjust the setting towards Higher Qualit y .
Mobile Voice Client 2050 for expert users 81 Advanced Audio Advanced audio settings are recomme nded for use only by advanced users. See Figure 34 on page 81. NetEQ software, included with the MVC 2050 softwar e, provides loss concealment and compensation; Ne tEQ is the default setting.

Hardware ID The Hardware ID screen is for expert users and system a dministrators. It can be used to select the Media Access Contro l (MAC) address that the MVC 2050 reports to the communica tion server.
