6 Thank you for selecting the revolutionary NordicTrack ® ELITE 9500 PRO treadmill. The ELITE 9500 PRO treadmill offers an impressive selection of features de- signed to make your workouts at home more enjoyable and effective.
7 ASSEMBL Y A ssembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Note: The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high-performance lubricant.
8 2. Identify the Right Upright (74), which is marked with a “Right” sticker. Hold the Right Upright near the Righ t Bas e Co ver ( 77 ). Se e the i ns et d ra wi ng. L oc ate t he w ire tie in the rectangular hole in the lower end of the Right Upright.

10 7. Slide the Right Upright Sleeve (96) up against the console assembly. Attach the Right Upright Sleeve with two #8 x 3/4" Tek Screws (29). Attach the Left Upright Sleeve (not shown) to t he console assembly in the same way. 2 9 96 29 7 C onsole A ssembly 8.
1 1 9. With the help of a second person, raise the front of the treadmill and insert the crossbar on the Base (83) into the cutout in the cardboard s tand as shown. Have the second person hold the treadmill to prevent it from moving f orward or backward.
12 HOW TO CONNECT AN ANTENNA Place an indoor an- tenna or an outdoor combination VHF/UHF antenna in the desired loca- tion. Outdoor anten- nas are subject to weathering that can reduce signal qual- ity. Inspect your outdoor antenna and the lead-in wiring before con- necting the an- tenna.
13 HOW TO PUT ON THE CHEST PULSE SENSOR The chest pulse sensor consists of two components: the chest strap and the sensor unit. Insert the tab o n one end o f the ch est str ap into t he hole i n one end o f t he sen sor uni t, as sho wn in the i nset dr awing .
14 OPERA TION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PRE-LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Y our treadmill features a walking belt coated with high- performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply sil- icone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform. Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear.
15 FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effec- tive and enjoyable. When the manual mode of the con- sole is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button.
16 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER IMPORTANT: If the treadmill has been exposed to c old temperatures, allow it to warm to room tem- perature before turning on the power. If you do not d o this, you may damage the console displays or other electrical components.
17 5. Follow your progress with the displays. The matrix —When you s elect the manual mode, the matrix will d isplay a track that rep- resents 1/4 mile (400 meters). As you exer- cise, the indicators around the track will appear in succession until the entire track appears.

23 HOW TO USE A HEART RATE WORKOUT 1. Put on the chest pulse sensor. Note: For best results, wear the chest pulse sensor to use a heart rate workout. See page 13 for infor- mation about the chest pulse sensor. 2. Insert the ke y into the cons ole. See HOW T O TURN ON T HE POWE R on page 1 6.
24 If your pulse is not detected during the program, the letters “PLS” will flash in the display and the speed and/or incline of the treadmill may automati- c ally decrease. If this occurs, see page 13. T o stop the workout at any time, press the Stop button.
25 HOW TO OPERATE THE REMOTE CONTROL The first time you use the re- m ote control, insert batteries (see HOW TO REPLACE THE B ATTERIES IN THE REMOTE CONTROL at the right). Next, stand on the treadmill and hold the remote control near the television. Point the remote con- trol directly at the television.
26 HOW TO ADJUST THE TELEVISION SETTINGS You must use your remote control to adjust television s ettings. Press the Menu button to enter the main menu or to return to a previous menu.

28 THE INFORMATION MODE The console features an information mode that keeps t rack of the total distance that the walking belt has moved and the total number of hours that the treadmill h as been used. The information mode also allows you to select miles or kilometers to measure distance, and to turn on and turn off the display demo mode.

30 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 . Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand. Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it. Pivot the frame downward and release the latch knob. Note: To release the latch knob, it may be necessary to push the frame for- ward as you pull the latch knob to the left.
31 TROUBLESHOOTING M ost treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please see the front cover of this manual. PROBLEM: The power does not turn on SOLUTION: a.
32 Next, locat e the Reed Switc h (20) and the Ma gnet (12) on the lef t side of the Pull ey (11). Turn th e Pulley until the Mag net is aligned w ith the Reed Swi tch. M ake sure tha t the gap betwee n the Magnet an d the Reed Swit ch is about 1/8 in .
33 PROBLEM: The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly SOLUTION: a. With the key in the console, press one of the Incline buttons. While the incline is changing, re- m ove the key. After a few seconds, re-insert the key. The treadmill will automatically rise to the max imum i ncl ine le vel a nd th en ret urn t o the m inim um le vel .
34 PROBLEM: The remote control does not function correctly SOLUTION: a. Make sure you are standing on the treadmill, holding the remote control near the television and p ointing the remote control directly at the console.
35 These guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program. For detailed exercise information, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician. Remember, proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results.
36 SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
