Revision 1.0 Page 5 of 25 Headset Reference Design v1.0 2 System Description The headset unit can be used to communicate with either a USB dongl e or an audio dongle. Note: The audi o dongle is simply a headset unit with differ ent firmware and jumper settings.

It can be u sed in a he adset, or in an aud io module fo r connectio n to a PC au dio outlet .
Revision 1.0 Page 8 of 25 User Guide 3.1.2 Micro controller The micro controller is an A VR, A Tmega88 and runs on a 4.096 MHz crysta l. The micro controller ’s main tasks are: • Setting up codec an d RF circu its. • Converting 16 bit PCB audio samples from the codec t o 8 bit a-la w samples to th e radio circu it.

Figure 7. ”L oudspeake r interface” shows a typical filter network that can be used for driv- ing a headset loudspeaker .

Revision 1.0 Page 14 of 25 User Guide 3.3 USB dongle The USB dongle establishe s a wireless audio link with the radio module in a he adset and is identified as an audio device in the PC operating system. The USB dongle is mo unted on a 0.8 mm , 4-layer FR4 ci rcuit board, with component s on both sides of the board.

T he USB dongle can be used as-is, but the headset must be re designed to fit into a headset fo r a finish e d prod u ct.

The USB Dongle is production ready , and any modi- fications to the antenna are only required as p art of the antenna tu ning process to compensate for plastic housing, and so on.
