Software updates Nokia may produce software updates that may offer new features, enhanced functions, or improved performance. You may be able to request these updates through the Nokia Software Updater PC ap plication.
● PIN2 code — This code (4 to 8 digits) is supplied with some SIM cards, and is required to access some functions in your device. ● Lock code (a lso known as secu rity code) — This code (5 digits) can be used to lock the device to avoid unauthorised use.

Content is transferred from th e memory of the other device to the correspond ing lo cation in your device. The transfer time depends on the amount of data to be transferred.
T h e d e v i c e i s b e i n g u s e d i n a U M T S n e t w o r k ( n e t w o r k service). You have one or more unread messages in the Inbox folder in Messaging. You have received new e-ma il in the remote mailbox. There are messages waiting to be sent in the Outbox folder.
Data is being transmitted using Bluetooth connectivit y. When th e indicato r is blinking, your device is trying to conne ct with another dev ice. A USB connection is active. Synchronisation is in progress. Shortcuts When in the menus, instead of using the scroll key, you can use the n umber keys, # , and * to quickly access the applications.
Use the scroll key to move ar ound the menus and lists (up, down, left, or right). Press th e scroll key to select the action shown on top of the ke y or to show the most used options .

Offline profile To activate th e offline p rofile, pre ss the power ke y briefly, and select Offline . Or, press , and sel ect Tools > Profiles > Offline . The offline profile lets you use the dev ice without connecting to the w ireless network.
Personalise your device You can perso nalise your devi ce by changing t he standby mode, main menu, tones, themes, or font size. Most of the personalisation options, such as changing the font size, can be accessed through the de vice setting s. See "Personalisation settings" , p.
Audio themes In Audio themes, you c an sele ct a sound scheme such as 'Space' to cover all device eve nts, such as calling, battery low, and mechanical events . The sounds can be tones, synthesised voice tags, or a combination of both. Select the sound scheme you want to use in Active audio theme .

Positioning (GPS) You can use applications such as Maps and GPS data to find out your location, or measure distances and coordinates. These applicatio ns require a G PS connect ion.

When you activate A-GPS, your device rece ives useful satellite information from an assistance data server over the cellular network. With the help of assisted data, your device can obtain the GPS position faster.
● Ensure that your hand does not cov er the GPS antenna of your device. See "Hold your device correctly" , p. 36 . ● If the weather conditions are bad, the signal strength may be affected. ● Some vehicles have tinted (athermic) win dows, which may block the satellite signals.
Select Accept to all ow your position information to be sent or Reject to deny the request. Landmarks Press , and select Tools > Connectivity > Landmarks . With Landmarks, y ou can save the position information of specif ic loc ations in your device.

The trip meter has limited ac curacy, and rounding errors may occur. Accuracy can also be affect ed by availability and quality of GPS signals. Maps About Maps Press , and select Maps .
Almost all digital cartography is inaccurate and incomplete to some extent. Never rely solely on the cartography that you download for use in this device . Browse maps The map cov erage va ri es by country. When you open the Maps app lication, Maps zooms in to the location that was saved from your last session.
To define what kinds of points of interest are shown on the map, sel ect Optio ns > Map options > Categories and the desired categories. To adjust the netw ork, routing, and general settings, select Options > Settings . Find and save locatio ns To find a location, sele ct Options > Find place .

You can also use Music play er to listen to podcast episodes. Podca sting is the method for delivering audio or video content over the in tern et using either R SS or Atom technologies for playback on mobile devices and PCs. You can transfer music from other compatible devices to your device .
To return to the standby mode and leave the player playing in the background, press the end key, or to switch to another open applic ation, press and hold . To close the player, se lect Options > Exit . Music menu Press , and select Music > Mu sic player > Music .
Podcasts Press , and select Music > Mu sic player > Podcasts . The podcast menu displays th e podcasts available in the device. Podcast episodes have three states: never played, partially played, and completely played. If an episode is partially played, it plays from the last pla yback position the next time it is played.
Transfer music from PC You can use three different methods to transfer music: ● To view your device on a PC as a mass memory devic e where you can transfer any data files, make th e connection with a compatib le USB data cable o r Bluetoot h connectivity.
2. Select the playlists yo u want to syn chronise automatically in the Available playl ists pane, and click Add . The selected items are transfe rred to the P laylists to sync pane. 3. To finalise the se tup for automatic synchro nisation, click Fini sh .
With the FM transmitter, you can play songs in your device through any compatible FM re ceiver, such as a car radio or a home stereo system. The operatin g distance of th e FM transmitter is up to a maximum of 3 metres (10 feet ).
To set a freq uency manually, se lect Frequen cy and enter the desired value. To list the previously used frequencie s, select Options > Last frequencies .
● Download limit (%) — D e f i n e t h e s i z e o f t h e m e m o r y that is used for podc ast downloads. ● If limit e xceeds — D e f i n e w h a t t o d o i f t h e d o w n l o a d s exceed the download limit.
To add a new directory or folder, select Op tions > New > Web directory or Folder . Select a title, URL of the .opml (outline processor markup langua ge) file, and Done . To edit the selected folder, w eb link, or web d irectory, select Options > Edit .
you are asked to enter a user name and password, contact your service provider. To edit the URL o f the selected podcast, select Op tions > Edit . To delete a downloaded podc a s t o r m a r k e d p o d c a s t s f r o m your device , select Options > Delete .
You can make a call or answ er a n incom ing cal l while listening to the radio. The radio is mute d when there is an active call. To start a station search, select or . To change the frequenc y manually, select Options > Manual tuning . If you have saved radio stations in your device, t o go to the next or previous saved station, select or .
● Access point — Select the acce ss point used for th e data connection. You d o not need an acc ess point to use the application as an FM radio. ● Current region — Select the region where you currently a re. This se tting is displayed only if there is no network cove rage when you start the application.
To add a station ma nually to favourit es, select Options > Add station manually . Enter the web address of the station and a name that yo u want to appear in the favourites list. To add the currently playing station to favouri tes, select Options > Add to Favourites .
To change the connection sp ee ds for different connection types, select from the following: ● GPRS connection bitrate — for GPRS packet data connections ● 3G connec tion bitr ate — for 3G pac.
To close the main camera, select Exit . Keep a safe distance when using the fla sh. Do not use the flash on people or animals at close range. Do no t cover the flash while taki ng a picture. Image capture Still image camera indica tors The still image camera viewfinder displa ys the following: 1 — Capture mode indicator 2 — Active toolbar.

To leave the camera open in the background an d use other applications, press . To return to th e camera, press and hold the capture ke y. Location information You can automatically add capture location information to the file details of the image. For example, in the Photos application you can then view the loc ation where an image was captured.
To zoom in an image after taking it, press to open the image, and us e the zoom key on the side of y our device. To use the image as wallpaper in t he active standby mode, select Options > Set a s wallpaper . To set the image as a call image for a contact, select Options > Set as contact call img.
To take two or more picture s in a sequence, select the desired time interval. To capture pictures using the selected time interval, pre ss the capture key. To stop taking pictures, select Cancel . The number o f pictures taken depends on the available memory.
Depth When shooting landscap es and sceneries, ad d depth to your pictures by placing obje cts in the foreground. If the foreground object is too close to the c amera, it may be blurred. Lighting conditions Changing the source, amount, an d direction of lig ht can change photograph s dramatically.

Select Hide icons to display only the video status indicators, and duri ng the recordin g, the time remaining, zoom bar when zooming, and the selection keys.
● To view information about the video clip, select Details ● To upload the video clip to a compatible online album, select (only available if you have set up an account for a compatible online album). See "Share images and videos online" , p.
● Flicker cancella tion — To avoid screen flickering, select 60 Hz . ● Capture tone — Set the tone that sounds when you take a picture. ● Memory in use — Choose where to store your images. ● Restore came ra settings — To return the default values to the camera settings, select Yes .
Video settings To change the main settings , in the vide o mod e, select Options > Settings and from the following: ● Video quality — Set the quality o f the video clip. Select Sharing , if you want to send the vide o clip using a multimed ia message.
To copy or mov e files to another memory loc ation, select a file, Options > Move and copy , and from the available options. View images and videos Press , select Photos, and one of the follo wing: ● All — View all photos and videos. ● Captured — View pictures taken an d video clips recorded with the camera of your device.
● Locat ion — This field displays t he GPS location informatio n, if av ailable. T o edit t he locati on informatio n, select the fie ld. ● Title — This field contains a thumbnail image of the fi l e an d th e cu r r en t fi l e na m e . T o ed i t th e na m e , s e l ec t the field.
Albums With albums, you can conven iently mana ge your images and video clips. To view the albums list in Photos, select Albums in the main view. To create a new album in the albums view , select Options > Ne w album .
Before starting the slide show, adjust the slide show settings. Select Optio ns > Sl ide show > Settings , and from the following: ● Music — to add sound to the slide show.
To save the changes and return to the previous view, press Back . Useful shortcuts You can use the following shortcu ts when editing images: ● To view a full-screen image, press * . To return to the normal view, press * again. ● To rotate an image clock wise or counterclockwise, press 3 or 1 .
● Movie — Preview the movie in full-screen or as a thumbnail, save the movie, or cut the movie to a proper size to send it in a multimedia message. To take a snapshot of a vide o clip, in the cut vide o view, select Options > T ake snapshot . In the thumbnail preview vi ew, press the sc roll key, and select Take snapshot .
You can only print images that are in .jpeg format. The pictures taken w ith the camera are autom atically saved in .jpeg format. Printer selection To print images with Image print, select the image and the print option in Photos, camera, image editor, or image viewer.

To copy or move files to th e memory card (if inserted) or to device memory, select a file and Options > Move and copy > Copy to memory card and from the available options. Sounds This folde r contains all the sounds you have created with the Recorder application or downloaded from the web.
Home network About home network Your device is compatibl e with UPnP. Using a wireless LA N (WLAN) access point device or a WLA N router, you can create a home netw ork and connect compatible UPnP dev.

Set sharing on and define content Select Tools > Connectivity > Home media > Share content and from the following: ● Content sharing — Allow or deny sharing media files with compatible devices. Do not set conten t sharing on before you have configured all the other setting s.
3. Select the type of media yo u want to view from the other device. The available file types depend on the features of the other device. To search files with di fferent crite ria, select Options > Find . To sort the found files, select Options > Sort by .
● Source devices — Select the source dev ices for synchronisation. ● Memory in use — V iew and select the memory used. ● Memory mana ger — To be informed when t he device is running out of memory, select Ask when full .

Nokia Video Centre With Nokia Video Centre (n etwork service), you can download and stream video clips over the air from compatible internet video se rvices using packet data or WLAN. You can also transfer video clips from a compatib le PC to your device and vi ew them in Video Centr e.
To schedule an automatic download for videos in a service, select Options > Schedule downloads . Automatic downloads are pe rformed daily during the time you define. Videos alread y in My videos are not download ed. When the clip is playing, use t he scroll key and th e selection keys to c ontrol the player.
Transfer videos from your PC Transfer your own videos to Video Centre from compatible devices using a compatible USB data cable. To transfer videos from a compatible PC to t he memory card in your device, do the following: 1.
Web browser With the Web brow ser, you can view h ypertext markup language (HTML) web pages on the internet as originall y designed. You can also browse web pages that are designed specifically for mobile devic es, and use extensible hypertext markup lan guage (XHTML), or the wireless markup language (WML).
To save the web address of the current page as a bookmark, select Option s > Save as bookmark . To use visual history to view snapshots of the pages you have visited during the current browsing session, select Back (available if History list is set on in the browser settings and the curren t page is not the first p age you visit).
● Subscribe to web feeds (if available) — View a list of available web feeds on th e current web page, and subscribe to a web feed. Navigate pag es Mini Map and page o verview help you na vigate web pages that contain a large am ount of information.
You can download widget s using the Download! application or from the web. The default access point for widgets i s the same as in the web browser. When active in the background, some widgets may update information automatically to your device.

You can save URL addresses as bookmarks while browsing on the internet.
Connection security If the security indicator ( ) is displayed during a connection, the data t ransmission between t he device and the internet gateway or serve r is encrypted. The security icon doe s not indicate th at the data transmission betwee n the gateway and the content server (or place where t he requested resource is stored ) is secure.
● Recently visited pages — Enable or disable automatic bookmark collecting. If yo u want to continue saving the addresses of the visited web pages into the Recently visited pages folder, but hide the folder from the bookmarks view, select Hide folder .

The details shown dep end on the connecti on type. Available WLAN networks Press , and select Tools > Connectivity > Conn.
There may be restrictions on using Blue tooth technology in some locations. Check wi th your local authorities or service provider. Features using Bluet ooth technology, or allowing such features to run in the backgr ound while using other features, increase the demand on battery po wer and reduce the battery life.

If you want to cancel all pai rings, select Options > Delete all . Receive data us ing Bluetooth connectivi ty When you receive data through Bluetoot h connectivity, a tone sounds, and you are asked if you want to accept the message. If you accept, is displayed, and the item is placed in the Inbox folder in Messaging.
USB Press , and select Tools > Connectivity > USB . To have the de vice ask the purp ose of the conn ection each time a compatible data cable is co nnected, select Ask on connect ion > Yes .
Play video clips Press , and select Applica tions > Me dia > RealPlaye r . To play a saved media file, select Video clip s , a clip, and Play . To list previous ly playe d fi les, in the application main view, selec t Recently p layed . To adjust the v olume, use th e volume key.
● Streaming — Select wh ether to use a proxy server, change the default access point, and set the port range used when conn ecting. Cont act your service p rovider for the correct settings. Advanced s ettings To edit the advanced setting s, in the settings view, se lect Streaming > Network > Options > Advanced settings .

Messaging contains the following folders: ● Inbox — Received messages, except e-mail and cell broadcast messages, are stored here. ● My folder s — Organise your messages into folders. Tip: To avoid rewriting messages that you send often, use texts in the Templates folder in My folders .
The wireless network may limit the size of MMS messages. If the inserted picture exceeds this limit, the device may make it smaller so that it can be sent by MMS.

Data, settings, and web service messages Your device can receive many kinds of messages that contain data, such as business cards, ringing tones, operator logos, calendar entr ies, and e-mail notifications.
If you select New mailbox in the Messaging main view and have not set up your e-mail account, you are prompted to do so. To start creating the e-mail settings with the mailbox guide, select Start . When you create a new mailbo x, the name you give to the mailbox replaces New mailbox in the Messaging main view.
Setting the device to retrie ve e-ma il autom atically ma y involve the transmission of large amounts of data through your service provid e r's network. Contact your service provider for informat ion about data transmission charges. Delete e-mail messages Press , and select Messaging and a mailbox.
Some or all message centre s or access points may be preset for your device by your service provider, and you may not be able to change, create, edit, or remove them. Text message settings Press , and select Messaging > Options > Settings > Text message .
If you select Multimedia r etrieval > Always automatic , your device automa tically ma kes an active packet data connection to retrieve the message b oth in and outside your home cellular network. ● Allow anonymous msgs. — Select whether you want to reject messages from an anonymous sender.
● Mailbox type — Defines the e-mail p rotocol that your remote mailbox service pr ovider reco mmends. The options are PO P3 and IMAP4 . This setting cannot be changed. ● Security — Select the se curity option use d to secure the connection t o the remote m ailbox.
● E-mail retrieval — Define which parts of the e-mail are ret rieve d: Headers only , Size limit (POP3), or Msgs. & attachs. (POP3). ● Retrieval amount — Define how many new e-mail messages are retrieved to the mailbox. ● IMAP4 folder path (for IMAP4 only) — Define the folder path for folders to be subscribed.
● Topic detection — Select whether the d evice automatically searches for n ew topic nu mbers, and saves the new nu mbers without a name to the to pic list.
Options during a call To adjust the volume during a c all, use the volume key on the side of your device. You ca n also use the scroll key. If you have se t the vol ume to Mute , select Unmute first.
Answer or decline a call To answer the call, press the call key. To mute the ringing tone of an in coming call, select Silence . If you do not want to answer a c all, press the end key . If you activa te the Cal l divert > Voice calls > If busy function in phone settings to divert ca lls, declining an incoming call also diverts the ca ll.

Make a video call When you make a video call (network service), you can see a real-time, two-way video b etween you and the recipient of the call.
