General information About your device The wireless device described in this guide is approved for use on the GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 and WCDMA 900, 1900, and 2100 MHz networks.
• The security code helps to protect your phone against unauthorised use. T he preset code is 12345. You can chan ge the code and set the phone to request the code . Some operations require the security code regardless of the settings, for example if you want to restore the factory settings.

Antenna Your device may have internal and external an tennas. Avoid touching the antenna area unnecessarily while the antenna is transmit ting or receiving. Contact with antenna s affects the communication qu ality and may ca use a higher power level during operation and may reduce the ba ttery life.

Shortcuts When your device is in the standby or home screen mode, you can use the followin g shortcuts. List missed, received, and dialled call s Press the call key. To make a call, scroll to the number or name, and press the call key. Start the web brow ser Press and hold 0 .
Warning: With the Flight profile you cannot make or receive any calls, incl uding emergency calls, or use other features that require network coverage. To make calls, you mus t first activate the phone function by changing prof iles. If the device has been locked, enter the lock code.
Functions without a SIM card Some functions of your ph one may be used without inserting a SIM ca rd, such as Organiser functions an d games. Some func tions ap pear dimmed in the menus and cannot be used. Calls Make a call You can make a call in several ways: • Enter the phone number, inclu ding th e area code, and press the call key.
1 In the home screen mode, press and hold the right selection key.A short tone sounds, and Sp eak after the tone is displayed. 2 Say the name of the cont act you want to di al. If the voice recognition is successful, a list with matches is shown. The phone plays the voice command of the fi rst match on the list.
The chara cter cases are indi cated by , , and . To change the character case, press # . To change from the letter to number mode, indicated by , press and hold # , and select Numb er mode . To change from the number to the letter mode, p ress and hold # .
Create a text or multimed ia message 1 Select Menu > Messaging > Create message > Message . 2 To add recipients, scroll to the To: field, and enter the recipient’s nu mber or e-mail address, or select Add to select recipients fro m the available options.
Flash messages Flash messages are text messag es that are instantly displayed upon recepti on. 1 To write a flash message , select Menu > Messaging > Cre ate message > Flash message . 2 Enter the recipient’s phone number, write your message (maximum 70 characters), and select Send .
Message se ttings Select Menu > Messaging > Message settings and from the following: General settings — Save copies of sent messages in your device, overwrite old messages if the message memory becomes fu ll, and set up other preferences related to messages.
Sign in to your mail account 1 Select your mail service provider. 2 Enter your account ID and pa ssword. 3 If you do not want to enter your password every time, sav e the password. 4 Select Sign In . To sign in to an addition al mail account, select Add account .
Close the m ail applicati on Select Sign Out . Access IM from your mail account Some mail service providers allow you to a ccess your instant messagin g account direct ly from your mail account. To sign in to your provider's instant me ssaging service when writing a mail, select Option s and your IM service.
2 Select a contact from the contacts list. Each conversation is on a tab in the conversation view. 3 Enter your message in the text box at the bottom of the display. 4 Select Send . Receiving messages When a new message arrives in your curren t conversation, the message ap pears at the end of the chat history.
Before you can use mail, you must have a n ma il account from an mail service provider. For availability and the correct settings, co ntact your mail service provider.
To connect to the service, select Menu > Messaging > IMs , and follow the instructions. Contacts You can save names, phone numbe rs as cont acts in the phone memory and on the SIM card memory and search and recall them to make a phone call or to send a message.
To delete a number, text item, or an im ag e attached to the cont act, search for the contact, and select Details . Scroll to the desired detail, select Option s > Delete and the desired option. Create a contact group Arrange contacts into caller groups with different ringing tones and group images.
To accept or reject the position request, select Accept or Reject . If you miss the request, the phone automatically accepts or rejects it according to what you have agreed with your service provider. To view the information on the 10 most rece nt privacy notifications and requests, select Menu > Log > Positio ning > Positio n log .
6 Scroll to a found device, and select Add . 7 Enter a passcode (up to 16 characters) on your device, and allow the connection on the other Bluetooth device. Operating the device in hidden mode is a sa fer way to avoid malicious software. Do not accept Bluetooth connectivity from sources you do not trust.
Synchronisation and backup Select Menu > Settings > Sync and backup and from the following: Phone switc h — Synchronise or copy selected data between your phone and another phone using Bluetooth technology. Create backup — Create a backup of selected data.
Display Select Menu > Sett ings > Display and from the following: Wallpaper — to add a ba ckground im age for the home screen mode Home screen — to activate, organise, and personalise the home screen mode Home screen font col.
Home screen key — to select the movement of the naviga tion key to activate the home screen mode Call Select Menu > Settings > Call and from the following: Call divert — to divert your incoming calls (n etwork service). You may not be able to divert your calls if some ca ll barring functions are active.
Network mode — to use both the UMTS and the GS M network. You cannot access this option during an active call. Operato r selectio n — to set a cellular network available in your area Help text act.
Act. def. in all apps. — to activate the default configuration settings for su pported applications Preferred access pt. — to view the saved access points Device manager sett. — to allow or prevent the phone from receiving software updates. This option may not be av ailable, depending on your phone.
Security When security features that restrict calls are in use (suc h as call barring, closed user group, and fixed dialling), calls may be possible to th e official emergency number programmed into your device. Call barring an d call diverting cannot be active at the same time.
Operator menu Access a portal to services provided by your network operator. For more information, contact your network operator. The operator can update this men u with a service message. Gallery Manage images, video clips, music files, themes, graphics, tones, recordings, and received files.
Format the memory card Some supplied memory cards are pre-formatte d; others require formatting. When you format a memory card, all data on the card is permanently lost. 1 To format a memory card, select Me nu > Gallery or Applications , the memory card folder, and Options > Mem.
To display an image immediat ely after you take it, select Optio ns > Settings > Image preview t ime and the preview time. Duri ng the preview time, to capture another image, select Back . To send the image to another device o r t o a n a v a i l a b l e s e r v i c e , s e l e c t Option s > Send .
Create a playlist 1 Select Playlis ts > Cre ate playlist , and enter the name of the playlist. 2 Add music or video clips from the displayed li sts. 3 Select Done to store the playlist. Configure a stream ing service (net work service) You may recei ve the str eaming sett ings as a configuration m essage from your serv ice provider.
To adjust the volume level, press the volume keys of the phone. To use the graphical keys on the di splay, scroll up, down, left, or right. To close the radio menu, and to continue playing the radio in the background, press the end key. To switch the radio off, press and hold the end key.
Start recording Select , or, during a call, select Options > Record . While recording a call, all parties to the call hear a faint beeping. Pause rec ording Select . Stop recording Select . The recording is saved in the Reco rdings folder in Gallery.
Connect to a service To connect to the service, select Menu > Web > Home ; or in the standby mode, press and hold 0 . To select a bookmark, select Menu > Web > Bookmarks . To select the last visited web a ddress, select Menu > Web > Last web addr.
To allow or prevent the phone from receiving cookies, select Menu > Web > Web settings > Securit y > Cookie s ; or, while browsing, select Options > Settings > Security > Cookies . Browser security Security features may be requ ired for some services, such as ban k ing services or online shopping.
Update and download maps To avoid mobile data transfer costs, download the latest maps and voice guida nce files to your computer using the Nokia Ovi S uite application, and then transfer and save them to your device. To download and install Nokia Ovi Suite on your compatible comput er, go to www.
Silence the v oice guidance Select Options > Mute audio . Stop navigating Select Stop . The availability of free navigation may va ry. For further information, contact your network service provider. If free navigation is not available in your area, yo u can purcha se a licence to upg rade Maps with full voice-guided navigation.
The current day is framed. If there are any notes set for the day, the day is displayed in bold.. To view the day notes , select View . To view a week, select Option s > Week view . To delete all notes in the calendar, select Options > De lete notes > All notes .
To select how the interval timer sh ould start the next period, select Menu > Organiser > Countd. timer > Settings > Contin. to next period . Stopwatch You can measure time, take int ermediate time s, or take lap times using the sto pwatch.
